I used to build tons of models when I was younger. I got a kit a couple years ago, but I'm going to wait until I get a house with a workspace to build them big time.
IMO, Tamiya is the best and most detailed. They also make alot of models not usually made by other companies (a lot of Japanese and euro cars - the stuff i like)

Model building is kinda geeky hobby. I am most definately a geek. I've been building since I was young and molestable. I bet there are a few more wackbaggers who build and just don't want to admit it.
I agree tamiya is the best. But they dont' make muscle cars! Have to put up with AMT or Revell lacking quality and accuracy.

I made a few in my teens but it's certantly not a social activity. Besides, the glue was the best part...

no cars here. I spend most of my time custom building model train locomotives in HO scale. right now, I am working on 3 custom EMD lease SD40-2's and 2 GATX lease SD40-2's. have to get them built, detailed, painted and decaled by october for the Western Prototype Modelers meet in La Habra, CA.

how long does that take u?
i can usually build a skill level 2 model in about a weekend if i concentrate...most of the time is spent painting all the parts
has anyone done skill 3?...im kinda leary to do that cause it seems tough as shit..im about to finish my gullwing that ive had for a few days
i love building model cars and stuff because you can see the improvement with each model you build
i assume its the same with real cars

I did some planes when I was younger. Those are a pain in the ass to build though. It's much easier to do cars since all you have to do is screw stuff in and make sure locktight is in the right place. The planes are a bitch though. You have to pin everything together, and that glue (while giving a wonderful high) only gives you one change to get things right. I was never good at putting the skin on and hot airing it tight. Flying them was a fucking blast though. I go to the RC strip everynow and then and fly with my cousin. It's fun.
I'm doing helicopters now. They are a WHOLE different level of detail and cost. Fun as hell to fly through the neighborhood.

gloves when painting is a good idea, paint can do nasty things to you, so can thinner. i shake like hell from occupational overexposure to solventssss.

I used to build them when I was younger, but haven't in a few years. I really want to get back into it. I want to wait until I buy an airbrush, and build a spray booth.
There aren't any good hobby shops around here, so I will have to buy most of my stuff online.

i'm surprised Ant hasn't chimed in with his model airplane knowledge.

What are the best right now? I mainly like the Muscle cars, and maybe some of the newer sports cars, like the new RX8, and a few others, and some of the NASCAR ones.

For the car guys, go y'all prefer the NiCad models or the gas powered?
THE FEZ MAN

i like that gas rc stuff but the nitro fumes make me sick, ive had: planes, helo's and cars. i crashed them all and the Helo scares the shit out of me i had to sell it. i laugh my ass off ever time Ant talks about the helos because i know exactly what he is talking about

Closest one I could find scale wise to all the 1:35 Tamiya WWII shit I have built...
