I'm sorry... but gosh darnit sometimes I get so flustered.
When I go on vacation, I'm hoping that I will be able to record the show all week on my PC. However, there are a few things that cause the online stream to shut down. So that may not work. If it doesn't work, getting a 1 month subscription to audible and downloading the entire weeks worth of shows will be perfect for me to listen to the next time that the guys go on vacation themselves.
IMO, that $13 to listen to a week of shows that I've never heard instead of "Worst of" will be well spent.

I got an yearly O and A subscription on audible.com about two weeks ago. The regular price was $69.95, but they gave a $60.00 discount. So 9.95 for a legal yearly subscription of O and A is a decent value. I rarely will use it. The sound quality is not that good and it takes a few hours after the show is over before they make it available for download. And then there are technical problems like sometimes only having the first hour of the show available.

but if you took the time to figure the year long subscription cost, it's 25.6 cents a day. Plus last week, when everyone was bitching about the quality of the worst of shows, I just downloaded each show to my i-pod and picked the best of the almost SIX HOURS of NON-COMMERCIAL show I was given each day to listen to.

Amazing....people have no problem downloading mp3's for free but when SU is mentioned it's now taboo. Funny how that wasn't the tune before or while they were off the air. Why someone would waste money on audible's service is beyond me.
ah see i'm coming from a biased view... someone got me a Myfi for my birthday in addition to the car.
I also have the Myfi. The problem is that I need to be able to record and save 5 days worth of content while I'm away. If the Myfi had more memory it would be an option but I can only get a little more than 2 days of O&A onto the Myfi at any given time. I should be able to save all 5 days on my PC. But if it shuts down for any reason, audible.com is a great backup option.

XM PCR + Adobe Audition. File size is a bit big, but I use an app to split the file into 10 parts and tag the files with ID3 Tag IT. I have a smart play list for each day of the week and they automatically synch with my ipod. I can spread the virus to a few coworkers. One has already picked up XM for O&A.
The part that sucks is the ipod loses it's place whenever I sync it with itunes. Anyone know how to fix this? The only way I can find my place is to look at last played in itunes.
This works well enough for me. I have considered audible, but today's show still is not available for download. Audible's files have bookmarks that are recalled even after listening to music, etc. Not having to record/split/tag/add to itunes would be worth the subscription, not to mention supporting O&A with another subscription.

I got a year of O&A for $9.99 on audible, they were giving a $60 discount right at the end of the signup process; this was mentioned in many threads when the service first started.
You found out about the discount on the next to last screen on the signup process (confirmation page), right before you clicked to confirm your order.
I just tried it again, but it knows I am a subscriber and I did not get a discount the second time around... so it may be back up to $69.99
It's cheaper than the time trax setup (www.timetraxtech.com) and since the new software is horrible I have to use an older version.

I don't know what all the complaining is about the sound quality. On level "4" it sounds better than the streaming audio of a live/replay program...
My only concern is that it seems I can't download any shows from BEFORE I paid for the subscription. Sept. 1st is the first show that shows up on my screen, though perhaps I just haven't figured out how to use the system first.

You could connect the output of your myfi or Roady to the line-in on your computer and install a program to record the audio or use windows recording program, this way you will not have the problem like XM online has which kicks you out every hour or so. I got the $9.99 for a year deal last Friday. I just found out that Audible has a podcast feature where you can get things you've subscribed to (like O&A) automatically through iTunes or any other podcast software. Once you're logged in to your audible account, there is a link on the lower-left hand corner of the page that says something about "My Audible Podcasts". Just copy the link and paste it into your podcast software and it will automatically download it when it's available. Pretty cool.

EVERY O&A show can be downloaded, in it's entirety (broken up into several mp3's) from alt.binaries.great for free (unless you have a shitty, censoring internet provider like aohell). They're posted daily - usually the SAME say as the show. Today's show, for example (9/12), was available for download an hour after it aired.
If that's too complicated, just login to xmradio.com and record the show straight to your computer - there's plenty of programs out there to do it, and alot of them are free.

you can download a free file converter called dbpoweramp (www.dbpoweramp.com).
They offer codecs for several file formats. One of them is aa files (audible).
Simply download the file and convert it (takes 5 mins to convert to mp3).

When I started my lil site I chose a medium that was easy to use. Chose a format that was universal.
I didn't set it up so you had to download "mega audio platnimun plus" with "sound forge pro" and then needed to get codecs like lame50000 and win plus plus.
I made it so you see, you click, you save, you got. (WYSIWYG).
If you gotta install all kinds of other software/programs/drivers/what-ever-else just to get something you are paying for then is it really worth it?
You pay for it, you get it. Plain and simple. Should be as simple as that. Anymore work and it's not worth it. IMO (in my opinion for none net speakers)

Okay, smart guy, what if you don't have the ability to have a computer hooked up to a high-speed connection for a few days at a time and don't have a MyFi? Has it occurred to you that there are legitimate reasons to pay a whopping $10 a YEAR to get all the shows for download and listening at your convenience?
I kinda like audible. I am a basic subscriber to it and get every O&A show each night to listen to things I missed while out of my car throughout the day. I have a myfi but never remember to schedule a recording or have my myfi on when it could be recording. Plus I hate the whole not being able to fast forward thing. So audible+ipod I can fast forward and rewind to exact spots quickly. I also like the being able to get 1 audiobook a month thing along with the O&A shows. I got Lewis Black's book this month. He even mentions O&A and lil Jimmy in it. Fun Fun.

audible.com completely fucked up the 9/30 show. The download is a half hour to short and that's not counting the fact the first segment (which is really the second segment) repeats twice. When you try to complain you get nothing but this damned automated submission form that makes dell customer service look like a dream to deal with.

i agree steve, people are way too uptight about SU. i pay for xm because it is a great service, but i would never pay to download shows off audible.com, when there are free ways of getting the same show.
I agree. I pay for an XM sub, so I find the shows "other ways".

I've missed O&A for over a year now and it's time to do what ever I have to to get them back. I can't do the XM thing because I drive a different car everyday and am in and out of it about 30 times a day and don't want to miss much, plus I don't want to listen to anything other than O&A on Xm. I'm thinking of getting Audible and having it sent to me nightly and loading it into an MP3 and using an FM transmiter, I don't need to store more than a day or two on it so I'm wondering if a 512 mgb will work for this? I have now idea what I'm doing with all of this shit as you can tell.
Or I'm willing to meet new "friends".

A 512 player will hold 9 or 10 shows, as each show is about a 50mb file. Just make sure it's compatible with Audible, something you can find on their site (or in the advertising material for the player itself).

If you subscribe to XM, you can record the show automatically. I use Replay Radio, it takes my laptop out of standby, records O&A and R&F. There are occasionally hiccups in the stream but nothing major. There are "other" ways of getting the show, mail me if you want details.

Hey all, you can always get each days show on the opie and anthony newsgroup. Just go to alt.binaries.opie-and-anthony and every days show is compressed into MP3 format and all the commercials edited out. The show is usually uploaded sometime that evening, so you'll be on a bit of delay.
Most ISP's have newsgroup access, if you're not sure how to get there just do a Google search for newsgroup readers (most of them are free) and you'll be good to go. I'm using a Mac so I use a reader called "Thoth". Just wanted to pass that onto you all.

Mininova.org offers FREE downloads of the O&A show as well as Howie, everyday. Did I mention that it's FREE. All you need is a high speed Internet connection and a bittorrent client. I am sure there is something on USENET as well; I just haven't bothered looking.

The part that sucks is the ipod loses it's place whenever I sync it with itunes. Anyone know how to fix this? The only way I can find my place is to look at last played in itunes.
I know your message is about 4 months old, but wanted to offer my $0.02.
I have devised an internal way to setup my recordings as Podcasts (with a little magic from scripts). And with the new iTunes, Podcasts don't lose their place when you sync your iPod.
Dirty Details: After show is done recorded, a php script finds it in the directory and renames it properly based on date and copies to a web-accessable directory. It then adds the info to the MySQL database (such as filename, size, etc). My webserver generates an RSS feed based on the info reverse sorted by date. I point iTunes to the URL of the RSS feed and viola!

Why don't you just take your Mifi with you and record the show daily? I thought that was the point of having a Mifi...it's portable. This is not a bash, just wondering. Are you going out of country or somthing?

why don't all you asses that can't afford a few dollars here and there, go get jobs instead of hanging out on here all day. i love the fact that if i'm unable to listen to the whole show i've recorded on my myfi before the next show comes on, i can get it off audible. On a side note, does anyone that can afford the whole $3 know how to cut the mp3 into 80 min clips so i can burn it to cd, i would like to burn the 12 hour best of to cd's to give them to my friends to spread the virus. any program that i could download to achieve that would be appreciated.

I subscribe to audible and also got the $60 discount. I only use audible when my myfi fucks up or when I fall behind a day or two on listening, but for ten dollars a year, i could give a fuck less if it was recorded through a bullhorn. Also, you can download the show at four or five different compressions. So, download the highest and it really doesn't sound that bad.

Here's the cheap way to record the show.Use your XM player with an FM transmitter and a old boom box with a cassette player.Tune the boombox or your antique stereo to the fm station and record the show onto tape.

I record almost every show on my home computer from the web stream while I'm at work. It's a little on the geek side, but it works great.
Keep the stream from timing out by using a freeware pranker called mousemove:
http://www.rjlsoftware.com/software/entertainment/mousemove/
Make sure the XM Channel selection page is maximized on the screen before starting mousemove – move it at least 50 pixels every 4 seconds or so.
I schedule the recording to start and stop using musicmatch's delayed recording feature - recording for 14200 seconds at 7:02am at 96kbps (makes a 120+ meg file that can be chopped up)
After 11am, I have the computer go into standby by running a scheduled task and executing a batch file with this one line command:
RUNDLL32 PowrProf.dll, SetSuspendState
I said it would be a little geeky, but I'm a geek by profession - why not apply it to something worthwhile.... O&A! O&A! O&A!
Hope this helps!

If I miss recording a show, I will download from alt.binaries.opie-and-anthony. The bad part about these downloads is they are a bit too compressed and tinny.
Ebola, Audition is a good move... but probably a bit pricey and a bit complicated for some people here. Sorry Pat from Moonachie.
If you wanted just one big chunka show, Audacity may be the way to go... it's free and seems easy enough to work. audacity.sourceforge.net . Just a suggestion.

I live in Germany and don't want to deal with trying to setup XM so I download the audible files, turn 'em into mp3, toss 'em onto my Iriver mp3 player, hook that up to my FM transmitter and listen to it on the way to work or wherever else I go.

I've been a subscriber to XM since August of 2004. I bought XM just after they announced the signing of O & A. tonight I had my first experience purchasing a show from Audible.com. I'll never do it again.
I had to download all kinds of garbage to get the show I wanted, I couldn't burn it in my normal cd program. And then I couldn't play it on my cd/mp3 player! Only on my computer with the Audible downloads!
Fuck them, I'll NEVER use their service again.

I must be the only one that uses Audible.com and enjoys it. I used to use Audiotools, an external soundcard, and my XM radio to record the shows, but it took too long to edit out the commercials and stuff. There are plenty of free ways to record the show, but I will pay a price for conveinence.
Both my mp3 players (Zen Nano & Treo 650) can both play the Audible files on them. Heck on my Treo 650, I can download the files right to it without a computer.
Also, I can put 2 weeks worth of show on to 1 CD-R and have them for later use. As long as my home and work computer have the Audible codec on it, I have no problem listening to them on Windows Media Player 10.

Couple of things...
1. You can download their shows for free using a torrent program....check out torrentreactor.net and search them...find it for free.
2. I use a program called Hi-Q recorder...it records any audio streamed through computer..so set it up on XM online, press record, and you got it.
3. O and A complain all the time that people shouldn't have to pay for things twice (mp3's, video downloads...etc) and they want you to pay money for the download....Their paying for it, you eat it.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but I finally stopped my old way of recording the show (using videotape!) and purchased Total Recorder. But so far the quality is terrible compared to my old method. Very tinny, just bad. What would anyone here suggest? I have it recording at 32kbits, 16000 HZ in Stereo. What am I doing wrong here? Something wrong with the parameters? Thanks for any help!
