I'm sick of Cingular and never having service at my own house even though everyone else seems to. The whole GSM thing makes the calls a bit clearer, but they seem to get the worst goddamn reception. I'm thinking about either Sprint or Verizon and was wondering if anyone knew if either had any cool phones. The thing I really like about my current phone is that it has a Bluetooth/Infrared port that I can use to transfer my pictures to my computer and also put MP3's on it to use as for my ringtones. Does anyone know any phones for Sprint or Verizon that can do this? I'm kinda leaning towards Sprint because their cheapest plan is less than Verizon, but I might be swayed by what kind of phone I can get. Thanks in advance.

Why don't you just check out the websites for each company and see the phones. I have Verizon service on my cell phone and the website is www.verizonwireless.com if you didn't know. Check out the phones. Some are nice and some suck. But, that is the way it is no matter where you go. I just got a new phone recently and I like it a lot. It isn't the type of phone you are looking for. But, it serves the needs I want it for. And I have heard that Sprint doesn't have good service. So that is a reason to go for Verizon to begin with.

I don't have alot of gadgets on my phone service, but I have had Verizon
for years. Their service is good. I get reception everywhere I go, even
when others are not getting a signal. As Just Invisible said, check out
their website and see if you can get the options you want. If so, I
personally think Verizon is a good choice.

Do you have the newer 64K SIM card? If not, that may be the problem with your service. Cingular has made many changes and upgrades to the network after merging with AT&T. Give them a call and tell them you're unsatisfied and see what they can do for you.

OK, I wasn't aware of that. I've actually had my phone for abut two years or so and originally had AT&T before the merger. I may have to give thm a call and see what I can do.
Also, I have checked out both Sprint and Verizon's sites, but they don't really say if any of the phones support what I'm looking for exactly. That's why I'm asking here to see what other Wackbaggers know.

Then that's EXACTLY what the problem is... I was also an AT&T customer before the merger and noticed a decline in quality of service shortly after. It turns out that only a newer phone with the new 64K SIM card will give proper service on the new network. Once I called and "migrated" to Cingular and got a new phone and new SIM, the service was noticeably better.

I have T-Mobile and it works the best in Bumblefuck CT where I live. SO that is my vote even though it isn't one oif the choices you gave.

Sprint's Bluetooth selection stinks, you either have a choice of a cheap LG phone or the Treo. I have the Treo, but its expensive and a bit larger than a regular phone.

I was also an AT&T customer before the merger and noticed a decline in quality of service shortly after. YUCK! I had nothing but problems with AT&T and Cingular long before that (when they were cell one). Verizon was ok but I have Nextel/Sprint now and have no problems with it whatsoever.

I had a Mot. v600 with Cing, and it stunk - no reception at all in my house. I upgraded to a Treo 650 - and now I get signal everywhere! (still on the 32k SIM card).
Try upgrading your phone - for the most part, cingular has a 14 day return policy - you could always go back to your old handset.
If you go to a Cing. store, and tell the guy/girl that you are not sure about what handset you want, perhaps they'll let you "try out" a few different ones (for a nominal fee), and when you find one you like, apply the fee to the cost of the phone.
If you tell them that you have been considering switching to another carrier, they might be more receptive to the idea.

I have cingular and have never had a problem with it. My cousin encountered this problem not too long ago. He had a samsung flip phone and would loose reception inside his home. He then upgraded to a Motarola V551 and works perfectly. Might be the phone.

Exactly the same with me. I've got a 100% Cingular phone and plan now and everything's great.

Verizon's phone selection sucks my ass. They all look like they should be filled with gumballs. No Bluetooth and if I want to get pics off my camera phone I have to email them to myself and pay a fee.
Good service though.

I'll agree with that. CINGULAR is the way to go. Unless you live in the plains of Iowa...then just use "carrier pigeon" service.

Alright, I just may stick with Cingular. I'm going to check out some phones over the next few days and see if I can get one and then return it if it still works like shit. Thanks for the advice everyone.
