Israel's Limited Pullout -- Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon announced today that he would start pulling out troops. Sharon's plan is to withdraw troops from the West Bank cities, with the exception of Ramallah and Bethlehem. This pullout would happen within the week.

Air China Boeing 767 Crashes -- An Air China plane crashed into the mountains of South Korea due to bad weather killing at least 118 people. Somehow 39 passengers survived after the plane skidded and caught fire. Nine passengers are still missing. Bad weather is said to have caused the crash.

Explosion Near Kandahar, Afghanistan Kills at Least 4 Soldiers -- Reports are showing that at least 4 US soldiers were killed and a fifth soldier injured when rockets they were trying to destroy accidently exploded. Some soldiers are still missing.

American Cardinals Called to Vatican -- Pope John Paul II has called American Cardinals to the Vatican to have a forum on sex abuse scandals in the US churches. The meeting will take place sometime early next week. The Pope stated that only the eight American Cardinals that are charged with sexual abuse will be at this meeting.

Illinois Panel in Favor of Changes in the Death Penalty -- Two years ago, Governor George Ryan put a stop to executions recommending reform to keep innocent people off of death row. These changes would be made in videotaped police interrogations, DNA database, and a ban on executing defendants convicted on testimony of a single eye witness. However, capital punishment is still in effect, but much of the panel believes that these changes could not guarantee innocent people being kept off of death row.

Retired Supreme Court Justice Dies -- Justice Byron R. White who retired in 1993 died on Monday at the age of 84. He was a football hero who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1930s, but was also an excellent hard headed justice who served on the bench for thirty years. His seat was filled by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. White is said to have died from complications of pneumonia.

Blue Chips Fall -- Blue chip stocks fell after bad results from the financial giant, Citigroup Inc caused a fear of falling in corporate earnings at the start of the first quarter.

Dow Jones finished at 10,093.67 after sliding down 97.15 points.
Nasdaq finished at 1,753.78 after sliding down 2.41 points.

Science & Technology

Space Station Has a Problem -- The railcar that is on the International Space Station made its inaugural today of being the first permanent railroad in orbit. However, the astronauts hit a slight problem. NASA blamed it on weightlessness. Engineers believe that the 1-ton car floated ever so slightly off the rail. This caused the magnetic sensors on the bottom of the car to lose contact with a pair of iron strips in the aluminum tracks. The railcar will be used to transport materials back and forth while construction of the International Space Station is in progress.

FDA Approves Botox Injections -- Good news for those who want to try Botox injections; it has been approved by the FDA. Botox is a purified strain of a toxin that causes botulism. Botox alleviates the problem of frown lines and other unsightly wrinkles. It has been stated already that the FDA's decision to approve Botox, will skyrocket the industry even more.

Sports

Kenyan Wins Boston Marathon -- 25 year old Maragaret Okayo beat Catherine Ndereba in the Boston Maration by 29 seconds. Ndereba is the world record holder and two-time defending Boston Marathon champion. Okaya is the reigning New York champion. Okayo finished in 2 hours, 20 minutes and 43 seconds.

Rangers Fire Head Coach -- After two seasons, the New York Rangers fired Ron Low, the head coach because of not clinching a playoff berth. The Rangers finished the season with 36-38-4-3 and finished 11th in the Eastern Conference. Glen Sather, the general manager, said that if Low isn't hired anywhere else there is still a place for him on the Rangers.
