Drug Test for New Job

Anybody know if I will have issues with a drug test and prescription drug use (Valid Rxs). I take Norco (Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen) and Clonazepam (a benzodiazepine). I know the Norco will show a positive for Opiates and the Klonopin will show a positive for Benzos, but I fear that the employer will hold it against me for taking these "illicit" prescription drugs, but everything is totally kosher (doctors, scripts, etc.).

I would imagine it is illegal for the drug testing company to reveal this information to the prospective employer because in my case there is no illegal drug use. Just want to make sure.

you will be asked what you are curently taking and they may ask to verify with your doctor that you are on them legally. The drug companies know how they will effect the test. Call them and ask if you need to bring in the bottles....

I am a supervisor for the MTA, we drug test at the drop of a hat.

It depends on what job you are aplying for.

My job, as long as I have a valid scrip from my doctor, all I have to do is fill out a form before the drug test stating what I was perscribed.

Make sure you have the perscriptions with you when you go for the drug test so they know everything is fine. If you don't have them and they don't know you are on those medicines.. you may not pass the test.

It happened to one of my friends. She took a regular over the counter medicine and then had a drug test for a new job. Thought nothing of it because she wasn't using any drugs. And barbiturates came up. So she didn't get the job even though it was just a medicine and not anything else.

I wouldn't even ask them. I think that a request like this would look suspicious. If I were the employer and you asked me this, I would immediately think that you were trying to hide something that you did after taking the first test.

I'm in finance/investments. Two of our IT guys at my old employer have bolted recently because of new offers. It seems the entire market is picking up quite nicely. I just heard from a friend who submitted my resume at her place and they wanted to bring me in.

I spend 12 months trying to find something I want and end up with 2 great offers, one counter offer, and a potential good offer in about 2 weeks. Companies are starting to expand their work forces again, which is good as the NE is going to have to make up for the mil or so jobs lost in the south

All kidding aside, if you eat a poppy seed bagel before a drug test you'll test positive for opiates. My dad was an NYPD officer and failed a drug test one time because of this. It took a while to clear up. Make sure to disclose everything you've eaten and are prescribed and you should be ok.

Thanks dude, used to make $120/hr back in the IT "extravadanza" days (1998-2001), but India and other 3rd world shit-holes stepped in and fucked things up for Americano IT dude.

$76/hr, when you work in unpaid vacation, sick, no benefits, no 401K match, etc, works out to about 120-130K a year, assuming you work 1800 hours for the year.

Problem is in this day and age, a four year degree is having like a HS diploma in the 50's and 60's.

I have a buddy that dropped out of HS, moved down to Boca, Fla, became a RE agent, and made 250K this year already. He says to me "I can't read, but I can count". His wife is his mortgage broker, and he is now getting an RE lawyer involved. His next project is to buy some land, and put up a development. Not bad for a HS dropout. He is very street-wise though.

When I was still doing union construction, I'd arrive in manhattan at 6:30am. As I walked the 6 blocks to my job, I'd look up at all the office buildings and think there must be so many jobs, so much getting done. However, when you look at the job websites and newspapers, theres nothing!

Anything that pays well has a Job Title I never even heard of or requires 42 years experience and 14 degrees.

Even the union hall sucks my ass, Put your name on the list, if your not called in 90 days.. Bye, off the list. They still take my 30 bucks a month in dues though!

BINGO! Bring the bottles and your Drs phone # (should be on the bottle). I’m no lawyer here but, I think the office doing the test has a legal obligation not reveal any personal medical information about you.
