Seeing how people can survive without eating for 30 days, I don't think I'd be eating any dead spoiled bodies. Drinking oil are you shitting me? That has to be the dumbest thing to do.

If I was foolish enough to live in a flood zone I'd have a means to leave ASAP. That is a boat or vehicle with proper survival/camping gear including a water filter and MRE's for myself and loved ones.

Let's not forget the one of the most important tools for protecting yourself, firearms. Smart people know that evil people fear those who are willing to stand their ground and have the ability to back it up with superior firepower. Most of my friends all say the same thing, if the shit hits the fan they're coming to me. I have bad news for them, unless they have something I want or need they'll be little use to me. Since I am a bit of a survivalist I already have a few different disaster plans to fall back on, I also live within 5 miles of my mothers house that is also well stocked with supplies and equipment. My wife and I had this exact discussion last night. That is why I’m a little disappointed that there is so many people that were totally unprepared for this type of emergency. Were we live I don’t worry so much about floods but snow and the occasional hurricane/black out are an issue, not to mention, the ever impending global Armageddon that I am expecting any day, Although I do wish I had more gas on hand but, it goes bad if you don’t use it, and my wife isn’t too keen on me keeping a 55gal drum of fuel around so I just make sure that I have a hunk of garden hose and few breath mints in case of emergency

-as far as firearms go, i'd have at least one shotgun, one handgun, and plenty of ammo for both, preferredly enough ammo to carry on you at one time, but not so much that it weighs you down.

-a decent sized knife, an ax, or both to help cut through obstacles. they can also be used as weapons. it helps conserve ammo.

-plenty of water, but drinking it very sparingly. the human body can live for an extended amount of time without food, but it CANNOT live without water as long as it can without food.

-if a decent supply of water is not available, staying in one place and waiting for help is not an option. walk, swim, hotwire a truck to get through the water if it's too low to swim and too high to walk through it (provided you know how to hotwire a truck), ANYTHING to get the fuck out. the faster you can get out of dodge, the better.

it also doesn't hurt to have relatives in other states, so you at least have somewhere to go. since this is a hurricane we're talking about, cell phones would still be working as long as they haven't been water-damaged. if you have any relatives out of state, call them and ask if they can put you up. given the situation, i'm sure they wouldn't mind letting you crash on the couch once you get there. keeping a credit card on you would be a good idea too, in case you need a hotel room or a plane flight once you're out. and buying a new set of clothes once you're out wouldn't hurt either, since the set you've been wearing are probably soaked, smelly, and can probably never be worn again after coming in contact with the flood water. don't worry about the credit card bill, you're just lucky to be alive at this point, so a big credit card bill is the least of your worries. and who knows, the credit card company might just ignore your charges, understanding the extreme situation you are in.

To answer your question, I don't know. I hope that I would be strong enough to do whatever needed to survive. I have nothing to compare to what those people are going through so I cannot judge what they have done. I can tell you this much, I would not **** animals.

i probably would have gotten out before hand instead of sitting on my ass and waiting for the g-men to come get me... but just in case i was unable to get out i have a large supply of canned food, non perishable dry food, and around 15 full water cooler jugs in my house at all times... plus i have a few maglights, plenty of batteries and 2 crank powered radios... If i was stuck in a situation like that i would be self sufficent until help arrived or if they didnt come i would find a way out and not just sit around and die...

Ruger takes up half of my "go-bag". The other half is Para-Ordnance.

I've got two spots in PA... parent's house in Lehigh Valley, or buddy's cabin by Forest City. If both of those are no-gos, the next stop is out by Penn State... then Chi-Town... then Nebraska... then Utah... and finally Seattle.

I guess it helps to have friends from lots of places, insted of just from across the street.

i sit on the high ground and have a large easy to defend property + 2 dogs a nice generator a huge atv with trailer, just in case i have to go were there are no roads 3 4x4 vehicals one of those is full all the time, and a nice set of tools to fix or build almost anything, tents, boats, and a case of MRE's just in case i cant kill somebody to eat. oh and plenty of personal protecton, like a said earlier fuel is my only problem. i wanted to get a desiel genset but it was too expencive and noisy for my needs. after we lost power a couple of years ago i try to keep at least 15gl of fuel on hand but it must be rotated to keep it fresh. almost all of my neighbors are the same way, some are worse, at least 2 houses on the block have full back up gensets and we all have deep on site wells.

You are correct. Get the fuck out by any means posible If they had a weeks notice they could have walked to texas. I would and do have the fire power nessesary to keep me and my family safe and Im well trained to use it. I live well above sea level and I have an out plan and practice emergency situations here In Virginia. I mean I live 30 miles from D.C if the shits going to hit the fan Im in the path. So if you have heard for most of your life that a storm could wipe your ass out have some sort of plan of emergency escape.
