I was a DJ for 7 years in NJ and worked many bars, striplcubs, and a few lame nightclubs. After almost 2 years off, I'm starting to learn how to remix and produce tracks with Fruity Loops and Soundforge. I know Wackbag has some DJ's and electronic music fans, so I'm just trying to pull us together with this thread.

"House is a feeling, and when you feel it you will understand!"

I gotta go with trance here. I never got into the more club sounding stuff, but then again I'm not from long island so I wasnt exposed to much of it until college. I prefer my electronica to be more relaxing than energetic.

Break beat/Drum and bass! I know most people think it's "weird", but I'm fancy people and I like fancy music.

Shape UK and Armen Van Buuren are good. I hear them all the time on BPM/System.

Orbital is always good. I don't hear them at all on XM.

Early aphex twin is kind of house-ish. Orbital and some of that DJ shadow shit is good too. :)

Just the other day I heard a long set from Orbital. "Orbital live 97 - One Nation" on The Move.

I am a HUGE Gabriel and Dresden fan. I also like some Tiesto, PVD (pvd! pvd! pvd!), AVB, and Victor Dinaire Lost Episode Music is SECOND TO NONE. (yes my taste is progressive)

It pisses me off is that I hear nothing on XM from Danny Tenaglia, Junior Vasquez, Danny Howells, or Peter Rauhofer. Enough with the Tiesto and Oakenfold!

What do Chemical Bros. and Daft Punk fall under?

i like the vocal stuff. i don't have any particular favorite DJ's or artists, with me it's usually whatever catches me ear, has a good beat to it, and good vocals. (and to be quite honest, i find it hard to distinguish the various genres of dance music.)

Chemical Bros. are my favorites still out now, I like the older techno stuff better though like old Moby. Also the more chill & vocal styles, Portishead ect...

Armand is phenomenal. Nyc dj's just own the house genre. I also love guys like Junior Vasquez, Victor Calderone, DJ Paulo, Erick Morillo, Jonathan Peters.

They've now fallen under trendy commercial pop garbage in my opinion. I liked some of their older stuff, but once KTU gets a hold of a song, it's over johnny.

Also the more chill & vocal styles, Portishead ect...
I've also been getting more into chill/trip-hop lately, it is really great. Morcheeba, Hooverphonic, Thievery Corporation, Gotan Project.. all top notch stuff.

AVH recently walked out on a gig at a NYC nightclub, and just disappeared. Didn't say why, and nobody knows where he is now. (well maybe by now, but I haven't heard anything as of yet)

Victor Calderone can REALLY bang out some sick tribal beats.

Jonathan Peters is great live, but some of his stuff is too hard/fast for my taste. (then again JP's crowd is mostly on drugs so the hard/fast style works well in the clubs)

.... And you're right - once GAY-TU gives something airplay (usually 10 months after it's been playing in the better clubs) they really drive it into the ground. I haven't listened to that GARBAGE station since the day I got XM!

wow....didn't realize there were any EDM fans on here. Gotta just stick with House and Techno across the board....all subs of them both. Every now and then, I like a little D&B too, though not the stuff that more or less is a hip hop beat sped up twice as fast.

Actually going to see Carl Cox down here next month....can't wait either. Tampa NEVER gets good DJ's.

Dude. You have freakin MIAMI. That's defnitely in the TOP 5 spots for ultimate club/DJ spots worldwide.

BTW - my Mom, Bro, Sis and I are going to Manchester, England during spring break next year. You KNOW I gotta go to Ministry Of Sound during that trip. It's 4 hours south of Manchester, but I'm sure it'll be worth the trip. Just gotta be careful and stay away from the drugs.

The phrase "techno" means nothing to me anymore except a joke. All of the 14 year old kids think it entirely encompasses electronic music, and it's annoying.

To me it's the best form of EDM out there. It get's me really agrivated, but what are you going to do. There are a few of us who love the actual genre of techno....not the gross misuse of its name.

I hate candy ravers and the need to be kicked when you walk by them at a rave. I was hired for sound and lights for most of the biggest Raves in Maine. Maine you ask. only because it was the only place we could get 24 hour permits that was anywhere near boston. we had a Biweekly party at club metropolis called solution. I started spinning at 13 Jr High dances and still spin (vinal) at 31 now. started the sound company at 17. I like the Chicago funkey hard house stuff that bad boy bill, richard humpy vision, and Dj Irene are famous for. Its great to mix because you can cut and scratch it up and it just keeps bangin. trance and vocal trance are great to listen to but not as fun to mix live. I get more into the art of mixing personaly and theres nothing like looking out over a room full of people going nuts because your killing the mixes.

If your looking to get back into DJing its dark times in the music scene. I actualy quit my weekly gig due to fucking rap taking over the room and the stupid owners of the club listening to the little fucking cunts wineing about wanting to hear fucking 50 cent 5 times a fucking night because they showed up late and didnt hear it the first time I fucking played that crap. first time in 4 years I wasnt working at least 1 club in MA or NH because of fucking RAP. and befor that I was working in Miami for the sound company that provides audio for ULTRA during winter music conference. God I fucking hate RAP. Im happier contracting small carpentry jobs now. sad because I love spinning.
