I'm just checking out the '97 version of King's classic on SciFi. It apparently represents his vision more than the original classic.

HOLY SHIT is it terrrible!!!!!!!! The original is light years better. It's pathetic how bad this version is. The guy playing Jack is awful....he doesn't deserve to live in the same town as Nicholson! And the kid playing Danny is equally pathetic....
The shows even more how brilliant the original is.

Hey, there's no bashing Wings' Steven Weber. He's a step up from that hack Nicholson. And a croquet mallet is far more threatening than an axe, ever read Alice in Wonderland?

And for you Shining fans, Simpsons Season Six is out on DVD with their Shinning parody episode. No Beer and No TV Makes Homer go something something

If you read the book (I know I sound like a jerkoff elite snob with this statement), you would love the miniseries a lot more. Kubrick's movie went off in its own direction, and it's still a great film on its own, but as far as consistency, the ABC miniseries is much better and gives a lot more life to the characters. The miniseries let you watch Jack Torrance descend into madness, but in the movie, it was obvious he had a screw loose from the very beginning.

Also, about the croquet mallet versus an axe...couldn't agree more.

but in the miniseries, it's not believable....that idiots from wings is such a bad actor!!!!! and the miniseries isn't scary or sinister, like the movie

I agree, it's more like the book. But that doesn't mean it's better, it just means it's more like the book. I thought Kubrick did far better at menace, at suspense and at the entire picture than King or the miniseries did. I liked how Kubrick made it more realistic as compared to the novel. And hedge animals that come alive are a billion times gayer than a hedge maze.
