FINALLY jumped the shark? That happened a while ago. I didn't even bother watching the season premire. The shows the last few years have been horrible. I'll stick with Family Guy and American Dad from now on.

I'm also a huge fan and I thought that shit tonight sucked. Last season wasn’t that bad I guess, but the season before that sucked ass. The show "jumped the shark" a while ago. I'll still watch until they take it off the air.

i also fell asleep towards the end of the episode and slept thru the rapport (sp) show and woke up just in time for family guy. it wasn't the worst episode i've ever seen but not great by any means, some funny points but it was pretty forgettable though

It was...pretty, well, lame. I did like the ending with Burns, Smithers and the manatee. But other than that, it was just...lame.

I am a huge Simpsons fan but yeah last night did not have my attention. It seems like they are throwing episodes togther and trying to just give Homer funnny things to say to carry it.

The Simpsons def jumped the shark a few years ago. It's still funny, but not ha-ha funny. Season 8 was by far the best season. Check out this site for episode list and description:

I have to disagree with something. I can't stand the first two seasons of the simpsons. C'mon, it is not the same show back then as it became. With the crude animation and the focus completely on the simpsons (the show became great when it started focusing more on Springfield as a community). If an episode from the first two seasons of Simpsons are on syndication I refuse to watch them.

I missed last nights episode and I was so pissed. I fucked up setting my vcr. I still love the Simpsons...I personally find that you can't really judge an episode from the first viewing. I really don't get a lot of the jokes until i see it like three times. There have been episodes that I didnt like when they first aired and when I saw them again I thought it was one of the funniest things ever. The only fairly-recent episode of the SImpsons that i HATE was the one where David Hyde Pierce guest starred as Sideshow Bob's brother. I really thought that episode was gay

i agree with you man, however at first glance it wasn't something to write home about. do you think maybe that the writers are saving the best stuff for the movie that has begun production.

like i said i havent seen the premiere episode. People have also made the excuse that all the good writers were working on futurama for why Simpsons sucked back then. I think, and not just with Simpsons but any really popular form of entertainment, there is a point where they get so successful for so long that people are just waiting for it to fail. The same can be said about certain rock bands that have been around forever (and this can be definetly seen in the messageboard world). I'll just watch the show and laugh and if i notice it really really sucking to the point where I hate it I'll just lose interest anyway. I really wish i didnt miss that episode last night though

does anyone remember the episode when they did the song parody to we didn't start the fire? i believe it was called you'll never stop the simpsons, and it had homer jumping a shark. one thing i have always liked about the show is its use of topical humorf, and making fun of cops, and religion. seems like now the show has some sort of hidden agenda. i'm jus saying...

The show certainly not what it was in it's prime, but after 17 years, what show is? It seems like now they're not doing stories that were funny like they used to, but doing parodies of all the characters. I still think alot of it is funny, but it's just not the same show anymore. I'd like to see them get some new writers and go back to the older structered story-telling approach. I think there's still alot of potential for it to once again be the funniest show on TV. But, either way, it's been on almost 2 decades and that's pretty damn impressive.

That was a stupid plot, but later on the show did make a reference to that episode, pointing out that even they thought it was nonsense

I dont know man, i think they were doing it sarcastically...like tongue-in-cheek and what not. If you want lessons for kids, watch the one where Homer was stealing Cable from like the second season *blech*. This is the first episode of the season i saw and i thought it was a pretty funny solid episode. No complaints

Eh, they always do that with Lisa episodes. Nothing new really.

Tonight's episode was decent. I just wish they could come up with one really great episode like the older ones.

I pinpoint it dying when they gave Comic Book Guy his own episode and he had the affair with Agnes Skinner.

Not sure what's season that was in.

The newer episodes are ok...the problem is that they've done most of the movie and TV parodies of old, hundreds of times by now.

And since most recent movies are either remakes of old ones or complete trash, there's nothing new to satirize. Same goes for TV.

I think the Frank Grimes episode is where the series died. That's when Homer went from a dumb guy to a parody of a dumb guy. It was also a really mean spirited episode overall.

The other big turning point in the series is whenever they decided to focus on Homer instead of Bart. I'm not sure when that happened though. I'd say it probably started in season 6.

I hate Marge and Lisa episodes in general. Marge isn't a strong enough character to carry many episodes by herself. They used up the good stuff with her by season 5. Lisa went from being the moral center of the show to a shrill liberal douche. The episode where she became a vegetarian is when they did a 180 on a lot of her character and she's been one dimensional since.

.

With the exception of 'Another Simpsons Clip Show', 'And Maggie Makes Three' and maybe 'Fear of Flying' season six has nothing but quality episodes and there are alot of episodes focusing around Bart (Bart of Darkness, Bart vs. Australia, Lemon of Troy, Bart Comet, Bart's Girlfriend...) the show always did a pretty good job of rotating who the episodes revolve around though, and even the secondary plots usually keep them involved.

Disagree...I think South Park is continuing to innovate, especially since they can make an episode about instant current events (i.e.Terry Schiavo-PSP)

kind of weird that you think the simpsons is mean-spirited when you listen to radioshow that laughs at murdered children and ****. I'm always fascinated by the fine-tooth comb that everyone goes through every simpsons episode. I remember when they aired the episode where Homer becomes Mr. Burns' prank monkey and he ends up being ***** by a panda. I remember reading at some O&A messageboard "I expect more class from "the Simpsons"". Like, you don't listen to a radioshow where they shove a wifflebat up a teen girl's cunt. When it comes to "the simpons", i feel a lot of time people need to lighten up
