I've been watching it over and over again, the same thing, sometimes twice in a row for about a week now. This has to be the most well done film, like, ever.
Not only did it survive the game-to-movie slump, but it easily surpasses any movie I've seen in the last decade or so, all while staying true to the world of Final Fantasy VII.
Wow. Just wow.

wait, it's finally out? or did you get your hands on an advanced or Japanese copy? i've been watching the IGN trailer for weeks now and getting goosebumps each time Sephiroth's theme music kicks in.

i just wish i knew what the hold-up is. they've just been putting it off and putting it off and putting it off. i know the Japs usually get the game-related stuff before we do (hell, they do make it, after all). does it really take this long to synch the voices with the motion capture? do they have to rework the mo cap to match the English script and if they do, shouldn't they have done all that by now? maybe by releasing it in Japan first, they wanted to see how well it would be received before releasing it here.

I am sooo getting this when it comes out. FFVII was an awesome game. It's too bad that my niece was playing Crash Bandicoot and accidentally saved over my file. I was right at the end of the game. I had one of those moments where you look up and scream "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" I tried to pick it back up years later, but failed to get back into it.

you have to be careful when you leave your memory card in. i had to teach my older sister to be extremely wary when she would play my PS and PS2 so she would not save over my files (she may be older than me, but she's not the sharpest tool in the shed). if you've got the cash, the best thing to do is buy a separate memory card for anyone who uses your system. that way you're certain that your files and their files are separate (as long as you remember whose memory card belongs to whom).
i still have my old memory card with all my FFVII files on it. i had to buy a new copy of FFVII on Amazon recently because Disk 1 was so scratched up from letting past friends and schoolmates borrow it that my current PS2 could not read it. i still play it on occassion, even just to kick Sephiroth's ass one more time.

well it is a sequel Jables, but here's a brief rundown of the game:
a group of eclectic warriors bands together to save the world from an evil corporation that is using up the planet's natural resources and from a genetically-enhanced supersoldier who wants to use the planet's life force to become a god.

haha, there's much more to it than that. it goes much deeper into Eastern philosophy's "Gaia Theory," and the characters' personal conflicts, and so on (and one major character bites the dust halfway through the game), but i didn't go into it or risk confusing you. the game takes over 60 hours to complete, as do many Final Fantasy games. but don't worry, Advent Children is only an hour and forty minutes long.

So should I try to play the games before i watch the movie? (are there roms?), because if a movie comes out that is based on something i usually try to read the book/ watch the original/ or play the game before. Or will I still get some enjoyment out of it anyways...

i'd say play the game first. it is considered by many to be one of the best games ever made, after all (some have compared the experience of playing Final Fantasy VII as the videogame equivalent of seeing the original Star Wars for the first time). the story is very compelling, the characters are very deep and memorable, and there are plenty of twists (like the aforementioned death of a major character). the graphics may look rather dated compared to the more recent games, but they were groundbreaking for their time on the original PlayStation (but with how quickly technology advances these days, even things that are only a few years old quickly look dated anyway). the worst part of the game is probably the lack of sleep and missed hours at work or school because you spend so much time playing just to find out what happens next. hell, even if the game doesn't impress you, it would still be worth it if you want to go into the movie knowing all the characters' backstories and connections. there have been rumors of an updated version of Final Fantasy VII with modern graphics being released for the PS3 (a la the Resident Evil remake on the Gamecube), but i personally don't know the status on that. you can likely find a Greatest Hits copy of FFVII on Amazon for around 20 bucks.

It just might be the best movie I have ever seen. My sub-titles were a little fucked up but still I have been watching this movie when ever I get the chance. I cant wait for it to come out in English.
Glenn did you like FF8 at all or am I the only one?

i liked 8, it wasn't as good as 7, but Squall is by far my favorite FF character, even though 8 wasn't as great as 7. the ending for 8 wasn't as good either, since you don't even see Ultimecia (the main villain, for those of you who haven't played it) until the very end. it wasn't like Sephiroth in 7, where there's this huge build-up to the point that you're actually afraid when you finally take him on. plus, you're left to assume that Ultimecia wants to achieve time compression so she can rule the world for all eternity because they never come out and say what her intentions are straight out. plus, some people didn't like the Junction magic scheme, but i didn't have too much of a problem with it. i was addicted to the Triple Triad card game, though. i think i got almost all if not most of the rare cards in the game.
If you have never played FF7, do so now. Still one of the best games ever made.

I got it a few months ago from my friend. Japanese w/English subtitles. Fuckin' awesome. Head & shoulders above any other animated movie I've ever seen. I started playing FF7 again after watching it. I never beat it, but I forgot how great a game it was. Totally revolutinoary.

I've been waiting for this movie forever. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within pissed me off so fucking bad I wanted to nuke Japan again. It was a good movie, but goddamn, I wanted Final fucking Fantasy.
Final Fantasy 7 was the first real game besides Mario that I'd ever played and it's still the best game I've ever played.

went out and got it today and just watched it. very fucking awesome, the CG is beautiful and the fight scenes were insane. i liked how they thanked the fans and dedicated the movie to them, you know they're not just trying to bilk us fans for cash like a lot of companies who make a movie about a video game. seeing the ol' gang together again made me wanna play the game again, and hearing Sephiroth's music again gave me douche chills like i was taking him on in the game for the first time.

OH MY GAWD! I bought it today and this was some of the best $20 I've ever spent, anywhere. This is a fanboy's wet dream - you have to have played the game to appreciate it fully, but if you have, and have grown to love these characters, it's just incredible. You even hear some remixes of existing music pieces, as well as new original ones, all done by Uematsu-san. Five of the biggest stars you can give.

This review summed it up for me. And I'm not even a huge fan of Final Fantasy VII! As for the music, Nobuo Uematsu does it again! The latest version of "One-Winged Angel" pumped me up! It sounded exactly like what a rematch between Cloud and Sephiroth should sound like! Perfect.

Bought it yesterday. I was fucking disappointed. I bought the movie because of nostalgic value. I was hoping the other playable characters from the game would play bigger parts in the movie. No, I expected them to play bigger parts. In stead, Reno and Rude played bigger parts than the most memorable fucking characters from the game. Besides that disappointment, it was a good movie. I did not understand half of what was going on though, as I couldn't hear the dialog over the music usually. But if I had known that the other characters where in the film for only 30 seconds, I wouldn't have wasted $15 bucks on it.

I rented it from Netflix, and it was unfuckingbelievable. Althought, I hope Mena Suvari gets ***** by a homeless person with AIDS. Jesus Christ, she can't act worth a shit! Thank God they kept Aerith "dead". I don't know if I could have handled any more of her.
The Cloud/Sephiroth rematch kicked ass.

i thought the Turks added some decent comic relief, but it's hard to focus on the other characters when this is supposed to be mainly Cloud's story and you've only got 2 hours to do it. they didn't have 60+ hours to give everyone their due time like in the game. there are so many other character (Vincent, Barrett, Tifa, Yuffie, Cid, etc.) that it would take up too much time. but relax, there's more FF VII stuff on the way. there's Dirge of Cerberus, where Vincent is the focus (and from the clips i've seen, several other characters make appearances in Dirge as well), there's that anime where Zack is the focus (sadly, it doesn't look like we're not gonna see it released stateside, but you may be able to pick up a Japanese copy somewhere), and there's a few other projects that skip my memory at the moment.
