Opie's best lines come across in the background, but when you catch them they're great. There were a few this week that were really great:

Opie "So what would you do for a portable DVD player?
Patti: "Well, what would you like me to do?"
Opie: "It's have to be something humilating... you know that."

On Stalker Patti and the Big A and how he deals with exploiting them:

"You can't think of them as human."

i liked when Opie said "It helps if you don't think of them as real people, thats what I do"....but actually todays show did have a line that I thought was one of the funniest lines ever on the show. It was during the Everyone Loves Raymond parody when the wife said "you have lost so much weight, I had to buy you a smaller robe"...that one line has so much comedy in it you can't even begin to dissect it

Yep, (like when what ever the hell it was, that fell on Norton's foot, and Jimmy was in rant mode), you could hear Norton yelling about a Stage 3 problem with his foot, and barely under the noise level, you hear Op ask Jimmy if his foot had the HIV.

I have always thought Opie was a funny mother fucker. I know he is always fucking around with the Cd's and doing production stuff and getting bits ready, but he is quick enough to get back into the convo with a good line. they do get stepped on a lot, but if you listen close they are hysterical

Ditto that. Good ol' Op may not get the big laughs as often as Ant and Li'l Jimmy Milktits, but he is definitely the glue that holds the show together.

I can't remember the context, anyone know what I'm talking about?

Opie dosn't get even close to enough credit. I've sat in amazement at times that his stuff didn't get better gaffaws in the studio. When he said black Earl in the dark control room looked like the opening to scooby do... holy shit, just brilliant.

He had a great line today when Big A was in...he kept ragging on him about the tapping, and then finally said "Oh, forget it, you can tap...I don't mean to be an ass. I do, actually, but whatever, go ahead."

There are many that are right out there as well as the most inside and subtle stuff that makes you miss the next few lines because you are yelling out loud at the radio "I can't believe he just did that..."
I also like his eh,,,nothing...... after no reaction from a line of his.

He was talking about the pregnant lady on the Jet Blue flight that had the crooked front landing gear. He said she'll have a waterhead baby from the adrenaline rush for 3 hours.

Best Opie line ever was when they were talking about the Lush soap.

Jimmy: What's that thing you rub on your face to make it smoother?
Opie: Cock?

Not really a line but I swear I can tell how rough Op might get either on a caller or guest by his evil laugh that proceeds it.

Oh yeah, another great line was when Stalker Patti was talking about her "study", Opie yelled "I'm a millionare and I don't even have a study!!"

Opie uses alot of lines from comics and things that have been said in the past, but he almost always gives credit for them. He has become more of a diva on XM and has taken a less vocal role on the show. Even still he is my favorite person on the show. This week he has been FUCKING HISTERICAL(sp?) I cant even think of his lines, but I have been thinking all week he is on fire. He had to step back in more with Jimmy gone and has kicked ass. He runs the show, keeps things fresh, he is my friend.

Opie is the BIGGEST reason for the O&A shows success, he was alone and knew Anthony (out of nowhere) had talent, and quitely kicks the shit out of Stern whith the cringe (poker chips...etc) The Dude is the most brilliant straight-man ever on radio. He spotted big A on that first street interview and said get that guy up here in studio. Big A would have been passed over if Opie didn't spot radio gold. He has the shit down to lay back and instigate shit (Ed Asner interview in Vegas) and let it fly.
I cant post a new subject on this board because im new here and not at a level (post whore) to start a topic so help me out here with this one..

From the old WNEW days:

Opie: "So what would you do for U2 tickets?"

Patti: "Oh, I don't know..."

Opie: "How about a round of bukkake? You up for that?"

So we can expect a Jimmy brings down Opie thread soon. Won't that be great.

One of my favorite Opie moments on the XM show was a very subtle one that took place during an interview, I think...Opie said something mildly amusing and then, under the guest or Anthony talking, says to Jim "Im funny, right?" That really made me laugh. Does anybody have any idea in what segment this took place?

Opie has been really funny lately. He's had me howling quite a few times over the past week or two. I think he tends to shine a little more when the guy on third mic is a little more passive (than Jimmy).

Whether he's being funny or not Opie keeps the show moving. I love when they come back from a break sometimes, and Op hasn't made it back in the studio on time. Listening to Anthony try and stall is hillarious.

I think having Jim, and more importantly Ant around, has rubbed off on Opie, allowing him to be funnier.

Its not that he isn't funny himself, you cant just become that funny by association, but it seems like the humor around him makes him more comfortable to come out with some of his lines. To a point at least. I agree that having Norton around probably represses some of his lines sometimes, but Jimmy gets such great lines out, I dont care either way.

Opie does hold the show together whether he's being funny or not. I think Ant could do his own show, but it would be nothing like the current show, and it wouldn't be nearly as good (I'm sure he would put on a great show, that I would probably listen to, but O&A is unbeatable). Having a third person, especially Norton, helps take the show to the next level, but as long as we have Opie running the workings and the attitude of the show, and Anthony bringing the bulk of the funny and the character to the show, we will be set.

Half of Opies great lines aren't even always outright funny. They are often under his breath, or in the middle of some situation where you are not gonna bust up, but they are fucking brilliant lines. Fucking Stern having writers write for him to make him funny? Opie is ten times funnier all on his own, his brutality is awsome. Knowing that he is really like it, even if he bottles it up more in his every day life, makes it even better.

Opies humor is allot more adaptive too. He doesn't get as many liners out as Ant or Jim, but he is allot less one track than Ant, and especially Jimmy (percentage wise). Not to knock Nortons humor, which always makes me laugh, but its allot easier guessing what direction Nortons jokes are gonna take than it is with Opies.

Besides, Opie is god, is there anything more to it than that?

Love ya Ant, Love ya Jim (Cant wait to see the TV show)

No, it won't be great, and it won't be true.

Pardon me while I play amatuer psychologist for a bit...

Opie brings down Opie when he let's that inner demon take over... for example, the on-air argument with Jimmy a while back. When the demon drives his cringe instincts, he's great. When he let's the anger get the better of him, he's ... Well let's just say the the Incredible Hulk does not make for good radio.

I've only been a listener for v3.0, but imho his talent for cringe humor, in addition to his brilliant sense of timing, re: controlling the flow of the show, have made the 202 listening experience more gooder since the big dust-up with Jim.

Just my $0.02, is all...

No, it won't be great, and it won't be true.

That report is due on my desk monday ricky

Opie had a ton of great lines during the argument too. Anger or not, Opie kills

"I don't know dickhead, cuase I don't know what was going on that day fuckface!"

Gotta love the Hughes rage

Come to think of it, Nortons ovebearing and sometimes antagonistic nature brings out the best in Opie. Get back from hollywood soon sweety!

Its great when you know that the guest knows they are being mocked, yet they just sit there unable to find a response to that laugh. It really is awful, which makes it so funny

Sorry have to say it is one of two, both on the Ron and Fez show
1) to a young lass: You think I care about your miserable life? (April amy???)
2) To A dominatrix: "Hey look it's Joey Ramone" after whick she started to cry and ran off air.
Personally, gotta go with 2
