Not sure if I'll be able to see it friday (I really want to), but I will see it as soon as possible.
And I'll see it again... and again... and again.
If nothing else, I'll watch it to support how great the TV series was. Besides, I'm sure it will be great enough to watch many times.
Its gonna be an awsome ride, and it needs our support if we wanna see more.

I'm trying to whore this out as much as possible. Heh, it'd be nice if O&A were Firefly fans so they could whore it out a bit too. ;]
Everyone who reads this needs to see the fucking movie THIS weekend. You, from what I hear, don't need to see the 14 episodes of the TV show to get it (although people who did will probably find more little things that make them happy in the pants) since it does a little recap at the opening.
I really would hate to see that Into the Blue Jessica Alba bullshit be #1 over Serenity this weekend. She's hot as hell, but holy crap does that movie look bad. Download it if you wanna see her tits. But dammit, everyone go see Serenity this weekend. I'll be seeing it 3 times.

Saw the movie in one of those 'BrownCoats only' showings that was made public at the last minute. A guy from off the street, who never heard of the movie or the series, got the quote of the day when he said "Han Solo wishes he was that cool".
It's a bitchin' movie, and I'm going to go see it. And probably drag a few people if I can.

Actually, the ones you're talking about (Mal, Zoe, and Jayne) went onto the other shows on WB (Buffy and Angel) after Fox originally cancelled Firefly. Joss loved the actors so he got them to be the "big bad" in the last season of Buffy and the last two seasons of Angel. ;]
And actually, River was the ballet dancer in a season 3 episode of Angel too, before going on to Firefly.

I can't say that River or Inara are hotter than Jessica Alba... I'm not really that big into Inara. But I'd definately pick Kaylee over Alba if only because Kaylee seems more the down to earth type of chick than the almost always too hot to even think about touching Alba.
My bro picked up on Jayne/Adam Baldwin being Animal Mother the second I showed him the trailer. Zoe (Gina Torres) was also in 24. And little known trivia, Alan Tudyk, who plays Wash, played the voice (and some of the motion capture elements) of Sonny in I, Robot.
Mal (Nathan Fillon) can also be seen in Saving Private Ryan. He was the wrong private Ryan if I'm reading IMDB right.

AFAIK, the movie's supposed to take place a year or so after the last episode of the show. That's why the whole crew isn't together at the beginning (Shepherd Book and Inara).

1 FLIGHTPLAN $4,400,000
2 SERENITY $3,900,000
3 TIM BURTON'S CORPSE BRIDE $2,800,000
4 A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE $2,500,000
5 INTO THE BLUE $2,400,000
6 JUST LIKE HEAVEN $1,870,000
7 THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE $1,320,000
8 THE GREATEST GAME EVER PLAYED $1,050,000
9 ROLL BOUNCE $965,000
10 THE 40-YEAR-OLD VIRGIN $915,000
Not amazing. Not horrible at all. Especially considering this is a $40 million budget movie based on a cancelled TV show with a cast of unknowns.
Hopefully the word of mouth helps it say the same next weekend.

I am really glad I decided to see it so soon, I had no idea how good it would be. Even if you never saw Serenity it was so well written and well made and the fight sequences are the best I've seen in ages but for those who have seen the show it's amazing how much it turns out you care for the characters. It's also really funny, I mean there are so many hilarious moments. Both from the characters (especially Jayne) and this might be the first sci-fi movie to bring up how even "advanced technology" things are still going to suck and everything's going to be falling apart in the future.

It beats "The Corpse Bride", "A History of Violence" and "Into The Blue". This is excellent news, as it puts the predictions on target. It also has the 2nd highest person count after "A History of Violence". It is important people go to see the movie tonight and Sunday. I don't think the movie takes place too far after the series ended. Dark Horse comics put out a 3 issue mini series that serves as a prequel to the movie, deals with Inara leaving and, as a part of what happens in the comic's storyline, Book deciding that he has to leave as well and ends with the Operative getting River's picture and his orders (don't want to spoil it for anyone).
Also, during the movie after the first fight scene, Mal rips Simon for having his sister on the boat for 8 months and not telling him a few key things about her (again, dancing around what happens).

Finally saw the movie yesterday, I was very impressed. The dialogue was great, and didn't seem forced or out of place.
It was very much a movie not a television episode, which means it was about actions first, characters second, just as it should be for a motion pictures budget and timeframe, and it pulled it off without being untrue to the characters.
I don't know how any reviewer could think that Mal and River were the only two characters who were the focus and had anything happen. I thought it was just as intricate characterwise as one of the tv episodes (even if it was event oriented).
Great to hear some of the backstory.
Too bad about the losses suffered, but thats life for you. They handled it well.

There was a blurb in this week's entertainment weekly which Joss Whedon says that the Firefly movie franchise isn't going to happen. It was not considered a flop, but didn't make enough money to warrant sequels. He said he's okay with that and now he's going to focus on writing the Wonder Woman script and then revisiting the buffyverse perhaps with direct to DVD movies featuring Spike.
I still think that there is a sequel there, maybe a prequel focusing on Book. Maybe if the DVD sells well.

Even if the DVD sets new sales record next week, if Whedon's done with the series, it's over. No one else could take over and do it as well as Whedon.
Mal's back story would be more interesting than Book's. Book was the least interesting of the crew. Besides, I think the movie hinted that he used to be an exterminator for the Alliance (along with when he got hurt in the series and the Alliance hospital took him right in). Kaylee's back story would be good too, but I don't know that there is much more to tell. She saw Serenity's problem when she was bent over on the floor...engines make her hot. Short but interesting story.

I've watched all of Farscape and I have mixed feelings on it... While the casting, acting, dialogue and writing were excellent, the production quality was LOW low low. Also, certain elements of directing were mediocre at best.
I feel that the production quality and camp factor is what really kept this show from being a GREAT show, because otherwise it had the all of the ingredients.
Firefly and the new BSG have all of these elements, and are therefore great shows because of it.
YMMV, of course. This is just one nerd's opinion.

FOX simply wasn't the network for firefly, thats not the kind of show it's known for. I hope SCI-FI nework somehow revives the show, it wouldnt be the first. They got the rights to Stargate SG1 (from fox) and revived that with huge success. That and using the acclaim and success of Battlestar Gallactica, and the growing fanbase through DVD sales of the series and Serenity, i'm sure they could revive firefly with ease if they tried it.

Joss Whedon has been quoted as recently as January as saying it's done.
