It doesn't seem like this Bondo Ape is readily accepted by the scientific community, in spite of all the stuff that PhDs need to find on the Internet. It looks like it still part of Cryptozoology and not the fact that Rogan believed it is. I could be wrong if there is more info out there.
There seems to be an antelope called the sitatunga that spends much of its time in vegetated swamps and marshes. They can paddle, not really swim. They eat vegetation and fallen fruits, not fish. They are found mostly in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, in the area of Lake Victoria.
I don't know about Rogan's view of the sped-up Evolutionary process in the Congo.

All I could find when I searched the Rogan-net was a couple of pictures of shit, a track, and two pictures of a chimp 1) with nothing for scale 2) with some afro-golfers, also not much of a good scale.
Rogan was really out of line with the PhD primatologist. First, she may actually have had soemting to say. Two, to imply that a persom with a science-based doctorate should consult the internet and popular television programs on science was completely innane.
It may exist, though.

I see 6 foot tall chimps north of 150th street all the time here in NY...what's the big deal? Its not uncommon for them to drink mad dog or old english in mass quantities. In fact, they appear to be quite socail creatures. Some even demonstrate advanced motor skill and coordination. They can often be found congragating in large groups on street corners either pan handeling or distributing illeagal narcotics.

Never argue with a stoner. I did get to look at Joe's "real scientific" site, and I still contend that this whole bondo ape thing is total bullshit. If Joe had bothered to read the whole "study" and hadn't gotten the munchies or fallen asleep in the middle, he would have read that most people think that they are just chimps- maybe a bit larger, but they are CHIMPS. I've spent a lot of time with apes, and I know the subtle differences between them. Too bad he didn't bring up the bonobos- real chimps that do live in the "Congo"- they spend all of their time having sex- hetero, homo, you name it. The females practice genito-genito rubbing. Now that's hot.

He DID say that they were chimps - several times. He just said that they are so large that, unlike normal-sized chimps that have to sleep in the trees to be safe, the Bondo chimp actually sleeps on the ground, like a gorilla, since they are so fucking large, nothing is really gonna fuck with them, even while sleeping.

I'll rephrase that- they are normal chimps. They are not some new species, and sometimes gorillas sleep in trees- it doesn't matter where they sleep. And chimps regularly walk bipedally. I didn't read anywhere in the article that they have killed lions- I don't know where Joe got that from. There are no lions in the forests that chimps inhabit.

Yeah, and IF it's an undiscovered (til now) species, that's not proof of evolution happening before our very eyes.
...and IF it's a "group of giant chimpanzees that display gorilla-like behavior", that's not proof of evolution either.
It's just another fucking monkey.

this was the response i got from the PhD Anthropology professor:
The Bondo/Billi chimp appears to be a fairly large (bodu size) chimp
population (not a new species, but maybe a subspecies). It is a very
interesting little known population, but aside from that there are no data
to suggest that they are especially distinct (aside from being pretty
large). I have no idea why someone would flip out over it, but who knows.
ORGAZMOE
09-28-2005, 04:00 PM
Here are the results from the DNA testing they did:
"Recently, genetic testing was completed on these animals, and the results were shocking. They weren't a new species, subspecies, or even hybrids, they genetically almost identical to normal chimpanzees.
It turns out that this animal is not a cryptid at all. It is somewhat disappointing, but at least the mystery has been solved. It is fascinating how one band of chimpanzees has become so oversized and developed a new culture with minimal genetic change..."
http://www.geocities.com/capedrevenger/ape.html (http://www.geocities.com/capedrevenger/ape.html)
So they're basically just chimpanzees. Big fucking deal.
As far as the "killing lions" thing, apparently there's no evidence to support the claim, only rumors translated from villagers who were thought to be exaggerating for the sake of storytelling.

New animals are discovered all the time, and even if this animal is new to sicence, that would hardly be shocking. Interesting, if you're into such things, but not earthshaking.
So . . . what exactly was the point of all the controversy on the show? I don't see what it's got to do with evolution. So there's a new ape. Big fucking deal, put another one on the list.
PS: I gotta admit, Robin has nice bit titties, is there a picture of them anywhere without the industrial strength bra? Of course, I actually like industrial strength bras, something about the contrast between the flesh and the fabric . . . shit, I sound like Norton.

As for the bondo ape, it said in the article that the locals call them lion killers not that the locals had ever actually SEEN them kill lions.
As a scientist (with a PhD) I think rogan was really representative of the typical average american citizen. He read an article and believed it, even though the science in the article is incomplete. Not being a primatologist, rogan (or 99.999% of the population) can't really judge wether or not the arguments presented in the article (a) hold water or (b) even make sense in the context of what is already known.

Fine, I'll give you that, but it's not some product of accelerated evolution. HOw deep is the water in that picture anyway? It's a swamp animal, and it's not always swimming even when it's in the water. Didn't Rogan say it ate fish? That's not true, and the sitatunga doesn't live in the Congo, according to the info I found.

Actually you should argue with me. Because it does look like the sitatunga can swim and dive and stay submerged for long periods. I think he was wrong on the other counts though. It eats vegetation.
