XM has 5 holiday music channels this season. I think it's a bit overkill, I mean don't get me wrong holiday music is only heard one season a year but 5 different channels on XM dedicated to spreading holiday spirit, thats a lot.

Holly - XM 103
Sure, the classics are great. But at holiday time, it's the hits that get things swinging. Join Holly for the best holiday hits from the 40s through today-everyone from the Carpenters and Bobby Helms to Elton John and Bruce Springsteen. It's pop twists and old favorites that are sure to keep the holidays lively, festive and bright.

Holiday Traditions - XM 104
The tree. The mistletoe. The music. Those timeless classics that were there when family traditions began. Relive yesteryear with Bing Crosby, the Ray Conniff Singers, Burl Ives, the Ronnettes, and all the great tunes from the 40s through the 60s. Because the smell of Grandma's turkey isn't the only thing that that can bring back memories.
(For the holidays, Holiday Traditions will temporarily replace The Torch - XM 31)

A Nashville Christmas - XM 105
Spice up the holidays with a Southern twang. A Nashville Christmas is here with the unique, old-fashioned family flavor that can only come from the biggest country stars of all time. So stop on by, and stay for a spell. 'Cause 'round these parts, Christmas is served. Country-style.
(For the holidays, A Nashville Christmas will temporarily replace Luna - XM 95)

A Classical Christmas - XM 106
'Tis the season for grandeur and magic. For romance and wonderment. 'Tis the season for the world's most powerful array of holiday-themed, classical performances. From around the globe, A Classical Christmas delivers the spectacular music of the extraordinary holiday season.
(For the holidays, A Classical Christmas will temporarily replace XM Pops - XM 113)

Special X-Mas - XM 107
It's not the eggnog. Or the rum in the fruitcake. It's Special X-Mas, home to the wackier side of the holidays. This is the novelty music that keeps the laughs coming, all season long. From Cheech and Chong, the Chipmunks, Elmo, Patsy and so many others, there's no better place to eat, drink and be very, very merry.
(For the holidays, Special X-Mas will temporarily replace The System - XM 82)

Pathetically I'm going to be hanging out at 104/105. It's nice to have on in the background.

I also think it's a bit of overkill, but hell, there's about 95 music channels I don't listen to so I don't mind.

I'll be listening to 104, 105 and 107 occasionally.

When is all this going into effect? One of the stations here in Detroit is already 24/7.

104 and 106 for me. It will be nice to have that going in the background for Christmas parties, decorating the tree, opening gifts, etc. I guess they have to cover all aspects of Christmas music. How long until the "Africans" demand a Kwanzaa music channel, and then the towel heads demand a Ramadaan, or whatever the fuck the celebrate, channel?

It sucks they're nixing The System from Thanksgiving to Christmas in order to bring one of those channels to life.

I wonder why the hell they have to do that? Why can't they just put it on XM107 and leave XM82 alone? Maybe they need the studio or something. They are taking over other channels as well.

I dig The System. It's good driving music. Now what am I gonna do? Listen to "the wackier side of the holidays", as XM put it? I guess that means we get to hear the hilarious :icon_roll "12 pains of Christmas", and maybe even "Grandpa got run over by a reindeer". I can't wait.

back when i used to listen to terrestrial radio, WPLJ here in the NY area would start up with the Christmas music on Black Friday (certainly adds to the Christmas shopping rush), but i hhhhhhate how quickly everyone gets into the Christmas spirit. the booze and Halloween candy hasn't even fully passed through my system and i already have to listen to Jingle Bells and Deck the Halls. sheesh...

They're already playing it in some stores. Blechh!

Last year, XM had Special-XMas on channel 83. Who the fuck listens to disco anyway? This year, there's 5 channels? Jesus, there better not be any channels in the 40's and 50's being cut.. I've already heard Torch is going..

Nah, it was just 1! As it got closer to christmas there were a lot of christmas songs in rotation on other channels, but I'm pretty sure Special Xmas was the only 'dedicated' xmas channel.

hell, last night i was in my local A&P and they were already putting up a Christmas tree, and it's not even Thanksgiving yet. don't get me wrong, i love Christmas (i'm a Halloween fanatic, but Christmas is second on my list). i put up the Christmas lights for my neighbors to enjoy every year. i put up the Christmas tree and even have a little toy train running around the base. i even have a tunnel i made myself for the train to go through. but i wait until December. at least let me enjoy my Thanksgiving turkey and pumpkin pie before i need to get into the Christmas mood.

Oh please. I ran to the mall on my lunch hour a week or two ago, and Santa was already available for pics. Nobody was there to take pics just yet, but it disgusted me. I'm with Opie...the Christmas season starts when Santa rides down B'way (or is it 5th ave?...whatever) at the end of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

this reminds me of the R&F "New XM Channels" bit

"At XM radio... where you can never be too specific"

It also reminds somebody else of that, sir.
