When Anthony talked about having Night VIsion Goggles on a cruise, got me thinking. Anyone know anything about this type of equipment? The goggles or binoculars. Might be starting a nighttime paintball thing with a couple friends. We figured it'd be pretty cool useing that. Which products are the better ones, etc.

Gen I is the most basic, Gen II is more advanced (and MUCH more expensive), and Gen III is still currently only available to military.

about 9 years ago I got to play with some $6000 military ones which are gen II by now probably and they were sweet. But Im not sure youd wanna risk getting the goggles shot off you face and also I dont think youll be able to see threw the face mask then into the goggles. Its a big risk lifting you mask to peak into the goggles. my opinion anyway

You have two types you can go with. A monocular that you can mount on your gun, depending on what type of gun you are using. Paintabll guns aren't that accurate so you can actually buy a regular night vision monocular and mount it with a basic sighting system and use it pretty effectivly. Or you can buy an actual night vision scope but that's kind of expensive. The other option is the goggles. Goggles take a lot of getting used to and seeing as how Gen I will probably be the only option financially, the quality, the small feild of vision, and the altered depth perception will take some practice to overcome. In the end if you become good with goggles it would be much better than the monocular. If your going goggles, think Russian surplus. You'll get more advanced Russian night vision technology cheaper than you will American. And don't worry, event though they've been accused of causing cancer, you won't use them enough to have it happen to you.

Don't forget, you're talking to the $100,000 man.

Just play in close to full moon conditions and those with superior nightvision (natural vision, but wear protective googles, you don't want to shoot your eye out) will triumph over the lesser beings.

the NVG's we used in the Military were the AN-PVS 7D. I guess they were 3rd gen, but not sure. Your depth perception gets pretty fucked up with things around 8 feet or closer to you, making aiming harder then normal. Plus, light from both the moon and from manmade lights, even just a small light on the back of a building several hundred feet away really reflect into the NVG's. But it is still better then using your natural night eyes. If I were you I would look into a monocular setup as a scope on you paintball gun, which would give you the option of a quick removal from the engagement with the night vision.

So the moncular is the way to go it seems. Do they zoom like the binoculars? Apparently useing nightvision fucks with your depht perception, but if something has nightvision and a zoom, it fucks you up even more? Gonna check the surplus stores.

Shit... with that kind of dough he could probably find a Gen III from one of the guys coming back from Iraq or Afghanistan.
