I've actually heard alot of people aren't having turkey this year because they are panicking over the whole bird-flu thing. Others are just bored with the same ol' thing and doing something else, or having something else with the turkey as well.
After being introduced last year the beauty of deep-fried turkey by my brother, we invited him to come over with the fryer and are gonna cook up a few turkeys on the back patio. Never had turkey that was so good.
So what are you doing?

For the first time, I am having Thanksgiving the way *I* want it. I'm faking illness, making a ham, sitting back and watching the NFL doubleheader. Denver @ Dallas, yeah baby!

Well, this is a year of firsts since my parents split but we usually did a ham, roast beef, a few turkeys, ziti, manicotti, eggplant parm, etc. and had 40-50 people over.
This year I might do a small turkey and make some eggplant rollatini and watch some football.

Don't sweat it, I wish they would have done it 20 years ago and saved me a dogshit childhood.
So what are you doing?
I do the Turkey (traditional oven cooked) and something else - usually baked ziti or lasagna. Maybe it's me, but I friggin' love cooking Thanksgiving dinner. Gives me a chance to be in the kitchen, listen to the bbboys replay, and start drinking brews early in the day! Is there anything better?
Thanksgiving is a useless holiday to me cuz I don't eat most of the food that's made, but this year I want to try some Tofurkey so I can join in the festivities.

Save yourself the money and time and just go shovel up some dogshit from a neighbor's yard. Tofurkey is the grossest thing you can eat.
If you're used to eating dogshit, sometimes dogshit with a silly name isn't that bad.

Tofurkey? Hmm. I googled it and found this (http://www.tofurkey.com/products/tofurkyfeasts.htm).
Interesting. Not in a million years for me, but interesting...
I had vegetarian jerky once- it was surprisingly good! But no, I don't recommend any fake meat if you can eat the real thing instead.

Just a vegetarian- I'm not nuts. I don't care if others eat meat though. I wear leather (a little guiltily). I just can't eat animals myself. But enjoy your deep fried turkey this Thanksgiving- I hear its fucking fantastic!

I swear on it. I always had awful holidays with my family so now I want to spend them alone. I'd spend them all alone or with only a few close friends if I could, but my mother insists that I go because she's in Florida and can't.
Funny how holidays bring up family issues.
And who doesn't love football? One of my main requirements for a guy is that he loves sports. I can't respect any guy who says he's not interested in sports.
I'm sorry for the ramble, I am home sick today and decided to smoke some weed....

Gotcha. I only eat chicken/turkey. Red meat makes me ill. I think it's because my mother is a lousy cook and didn't know how to cook when I was a kid. But since then, I've kinda decided I can't eat things smarter than alot of people I know, so it works out either way.

Nik, I envy you. For years I've threatened my family that I won't show up. Oh, how I've dreamed of the holidays being just me, a pizza, and a bottle or two of wine. :)
This year, I've been invited to my brother's future in-law's. I have no idea what to expect, but I am hoping the food (whatever it is) is good.

I truly believe that nobody likes baked turkey. Just admit it. It's dry and tastes awful. Frying is the only way to go. I am going to drink a bottle of Makers Mark so I can deal with my family. Maybe I will puke in my parent's flowerbed and get my girl pregnant in their bedroom. Happy turkey day.

Save yourself the money and time and just go shovel up some dogshit from a neighbor's yard. Tofurkey is the grossest thing you can eat.
Yeah, my vegetarian friends won't even touch the stuff. They say the mere thought of it gives them "the willies." They recommend veggie turkey slices instead.

a tip i learned on food network, cook the turkey upside down, and the last half hour turn it right side up to brown it so the juices cook into the meat instead of draining.

Haven't eaten turkey on Thanksgiving in years. Although I have been dying to try turkey deep fried, I hear that's some good eats. Usually around here it changes, fried chicken, ham, or maybe kind of Italian. But a suggestion for those who want turkey, but don't to go through a whole bird. Pick up a nice couple of turkey breasts.

turkey, we'll be picking the carcass clean for days.
oh, and to calm people's fears about the bird flu, it cannot be transmitted by ingesting cooked bird meat. so even if by some odd chance the turkey or duck you eat had the bird flu before it was killed, you will not get it if you eat its meat. and i imagine that by ingesting uncooked bird meat, you'll have worse things than the bird flu to worry about - things like Salmonella and E. Coli.
the people in Asia who got the bird flu had constant direct contact with live chickens who had the bird flu, not because they ate bird meat. the fear is that the bird flu will mutate and be passed from live birds to humans and then from person to person much easier.

You're near Philly? Where is this restaurant? ;) Just in case I need a backup plan.
You've gotta have the Turkey, no question about it. Usually a ham in there, too. One of these years I've got to get a Turducken, though.
Oh yeah, and fried Turkey is phenominal...but too much of it is like a death sentence.
The games this year look decent. Falcons/Lions, Cowboys/Broncos, but Thanksgiving screams divisional rivalries to me. Whatever happened to Lions/Bears and Cowboys/Redskins...or even Cowboys/Eagles. The games should have that little extra juice for holiday viewing.
