Very cool, probably even better if your tripping your balls off. It amazes me what some people will do for attention, do you think he'd add a lighted WOW/O&A/XM light thing for some coin?

You're gonna need a shitload of wire and a few PLCs. Trigger the whole sequence with MIDI messages. There's a bunch of discrete outputs there. I count 39 or 45 depending on whether or not there are 6 or 5 trees in the front row. All the hardware plus the time to program the sequence plus the creativity. All in All pretty nice job. This would be the same kind of system that controls Dancing Water Fountains set to music etc.

I'm sure this guy's got a strict schedule for when this display is active. If he's leaving it on 'till all hours then he is indeed an asshole.

The biggest problem I see with being a neighbor to that guy is a display like that has got to draw a crowd.

My stupid neighbor who has more money than he knows what to do with has all his employees from his business and come decorate his whole fucking yard. His house is on a curve where the speed limit is 50mph. Imagine all the fucking accidents that happen on our road because all the stupid idiots insist on slowing down to look at it.

being from NE ohio, i'm sure yo'ue seen the guy on.... i think it was 78th? when you go over the 480 bridge at night you can see his yard from far away, he was the guy that had to charge admission to see his lights, it went all down the hill in his backyard, and the front yard could be seen from freakin neptune.

ha i'm from brunswick.... i think i know the area you're talking about. just across the road on boston, on the strongsville side, yes it's like 8 or 9 houses that do it. shitheads.

We used to have a guy in my town growing up that put on really elaborate displays. He asked for donations, but not to pay for the bill - he did it for childrens charities. Eventually, the neighbors succeeded in shutting his display down (it was really popular). A strip mall on the outskirts of town decided to host it instead...looks like its still going at that mall.
