Anyone have any good suggestions on file sharing sites? I currently use Shareaza, its ok but it doesnt feel like that big of a community hence sometimes making it hard to find songs that I'm looking for. Thanks for any input you can offer. Also It cant be one of those pop up/spyware infested programs. Thats one major plus of shareaza that you dont get any of that crap. Thanks again.

One simple word, Cosmo: Newsgroups.
Nothing P2P has can even begin to compare to usenet.

BT is too slow for my taste. With newsgroups, usually the only limitation you have is the bandwidth of your net connection. I sometimes get up to 8mbps on my dl's.

We use paltalk because of its semi-free voice/video conferencing.
I hear that people like limewire and dc++.

Whats the monthly charge for usenet?
I tend to find more stuff on BT than usenet (tried the usenet free trial)
BT is free and if you go to the right private sites its great, I get almost everything I want before or on the release date, and its good to have Azureus, its the best and fastest BT program
Joey DVDZ - 8mbps means you probably have a T3 connection, unless you're confusing megabits and megabytes. 8 megabits=800 kilobytes, which is what I get on BT sometimes.
And Limewire stinks

I pay $25 for the server with 10 concurrent connections, no monthly limit, and $5 gets me 80 days of premium membership on a newsgroup website.
I know it's not 800k. I can dl a movie of 1 gb in just under 40 minutes.

If you can't find what you want on Usenet, you're either not looking in the right place, or your server blows. It's there. Much more there than on any p2p. (Don't use any free servers, or your ISP's server. Binary retention is next to zero. You're looking at minimum $10 a month per 20GB transfer for a good server.)
Your math is off. An 8Mbps connection will yield (theoretically) 1MBps. You divide by 8, not 10.
I have a 10Mbps cable modem, and most of the time my usenet server feeds me about 1 - 1.1MBps
The problem with BT and all other p2p, is that you are at the mercy of the other guy's upload pipe, and if he;s throttled the connection. So you wind up downloading your 1.2GB DivX file at about 4.7KB/s. It's taken me DAYS to fully download a 300MB .iso from BT and p2p. If there's not an overabundance of seeds, you're gonna wait. I'd rather go someplace where I know I can either find it right there, or put in an ask and have it there in a day, then download it in an hour. It's incredibly depressing to see a huge file trickling in, with the 'Time Remaining' counter reading in the HUNDREDS OF HOURS.
(And Joey, a 1GB file in 40 minutes is about 417KB/s, or 3.3Mb/s :icon_mrgr)

Who's your ISP? You may already have Usenet access and not know it; most ISPs, especially cable companies and phone companies, don't go out of their way to advertise its availability, but it's usually there.

newsbin pro -- great for almost instant downloads
limewire pro -- get the free one and then use the free one to the latest cracked pro version and a cracked newbin pro. The best there is really. And if you do use BT, get Azureus it is by far the best BT program there is to be had

I actually record them on data tape drive using my maxell 90min tapes! That's right, not 60min, they are 90min, 45min each side. They are really expensive, but worth it. I get the metal ones too b/c they last longer...Oh the days....
I use Bittorrent, specifically bittornado. My big thing is d/l the HDTV Divx rips of tv shows. I d/l shows and watch them over the summer when things are in repeats. It is great for when you miss a show or if you want an entire season, or if you don't subscribe to a specific cable channel and yet love their Home box office style programming ;)
Hey speedy if you need an intro to filesharing search around for Bittorrent FAQ's

That's what I do mainly. I love widescreen, which almost all HD broadcasts are in, but I don't have HD yet, so I'm stuck with fullscreen. I DL divx copies of Lost, Surface, Invasion, Supernatural, Smallville, etc. and keep them all until I have the whole season, then I pop them on a dvd-r and get to watch the WS HD goodness on my divx enabled dvd player.

That's what I do too. Except I don't know how to burn them to a dvd to be able to watch it on my tv.
One thing I was wondering about with all of this downloading tv shows, is the legality. I use BT for some music, but mostly for tv shows now that I don't have TiVo anymore. But to me it seems like it isn't illegal because the programs are essentially free to begin with, so it is kind of like re-broadcasting them. If they make it illegal to dl movies and music on BT, they better leave my tv shows alone!

I use Bitlord for BTs, it's pretty good.
If you want security with your file-sharing, look for a program called W.A.S.T.E. it's still in beta development but the latest beta is very solid, I've had no problems with it.
Usenet is still the way to go if you want a big selection, unfortunately you'll probably need to shell out a few bucks.

It's illegal. Downloading anything is illegal unless it is specifically provided as a free or shareware download. You used an interesting phrasing there: "it is kind of like re-broadcasting them." .. All copyrighted works are the sole property of the copyright holder, and may not be copied, retransmitted, rebroadcasted, bought or sold, in whole or in part, without without the express written constent of the copyright holder.. That is part of the FBI warning.. You also hear it during commercial breaks in sports events.
In other words, they want you to drop the money on the DVD box set, not download them free. Also, TV shows are paid for by commercials. Betcha dollars to donuts there's no commercials in the rips that you download..

I recently switched to utorrent and REALLY like it. Makes managing torrents (and ratios if you're on a private tracker) easy. Very small application, much more stable than other ones I've tried.
Whoever is uploading the thing we all have in common on Mininova, pm me? I have fiberoptic internet service now and can seed for you. 15mb down 2mb up, my god its fast :)
