You're pretty close; PS use some tecture mapping from the original Lord of Rings pic and layer over Li'l Jimmy's face to make it look more gooder, a little touch of blur here and there plus maybe some smudge here and there, and voi'la! Presto!

Good advise from Mice, here is some more...

You could...
1.use the smear tool [set at around 50% with a soft brush] to blend the edges of the face into the pic so you don't see the chop lines as much.

2.Color correction/matching: Use Hue/saturation, and lower the saturation a bit. Then use Color balance, and play with the sliders until the face matchs. Afterwards, you probably will have to lower the saturation again.

3. Try adjusting the levels, or use the unsharpen mask filter to sharpen the face to match the rest of the pic.
You also might want to adjust the contrast as well.

There are many ways to do this shit, you just have to keep experimenting until you get your own technique down.

Well I have Paint Shop Pro 8. It was free from a friend of mine because she went on to using a MAC (god knows why but she did, I think for work reasons & security) anyhow, I like the program and I have a book for it. I need to read it a little more to get familiar with it. All the edits I am doing now is just by playing with it. I have NEVER actually looked at the book (ha ha) so I guess I am only paying the price for relentless procrastination! :icon_wink

Hey Nortonshog, what is the program you use to create the "Jimmy & Scarlet" picture?
In Pshop, I create everything, then save each frame as a jpg, labeled 01, 02 etc. Then I use the wizard feature in Animationshop (comes with Paintshop Pro), and finally move the frames around and set the frame rates.

For these type of gifs (ie. photo-animating) I think you can't find an easier and quicker program than Animationshop.

For the movie gifs, I am currently getting great advise from FingerYounger, Mikepop, and Cage. They use and recommend progs like After Effects, Imageready, and Premiere.
