I have a solid idea for an Opie game that I'll start shortly. Hopefully this one will be a significant step up in terms of gameplay. I am not a Flash developer by trade, so I'm kindof picking up new techniques as I go.

For those interested in the Movies game used to create the cutscenes, it is actually a pretty cool sim game on it's own. One of the facets of the game is the ability to write, shoot, and edit a movie. Once you do this, you can export it to .wmv and do whatever. One warnining though for those picking it up, it is not completely freeform. You pick from the existing sets, and there are preset scenes in each set. You then create and customize actors to play parts in each scene. You can also add/subtract actors, dialog, and props. You do not have the ability to do whatever your lil heart desires though.

Originally, the Bonus Level was an "Assault the Media" level (starring Arthur Chein) and I was getting ready to post it 2 days ago when everything went to shit. So, just to be safe, I replaced it. It turned out to be a good thing though, because I liked the Howard Stern version better.

It's a great "Tycoon" style game - but keep in mind that while you do have a lot of control over the movies - you can't do "Anything" you want, you can do quite a bit though. They sell it on the idea you can make any movie, but you don't have a lot of control over the canned scenes - that said, there are HUNDREDS of canned scenes to work with. If you buy it get the "Directors Cut" DVD.

Havent had a chance to play it yet myself, just wanted to say congrats for your game getting a mention on the show today. Another game idea since you have the know how could be centered around the storyline of pat from moonachie trying to contact his father. Could have it end with either one of two possible outcomes, where his father accepts him or rejects him. Personally want to see the former since pat is a good egg and I do feel sorry for people who are in these situations. Another idea could be a tranny/hooker
game featuring little jimmy, where he picks different ones up with the ultimate goal of having one drop a log on him.

Probably the most suprising thing about this game was how EASY the cutscenes were to create. Honestly, there is almost no talent required to do them using The Movies game. By far the most difficult part of the game was the game engine itself.

As far as the The Movies game itself, bonked put it best in a post a few pages back. You don't have unlimited control over everything you want...you can only modify existing scenes, so it is quite limiting.

Hah! I loved that people caught this. Actually, this was part of the preset scenery that I used for the basis of the scene. I wanted to remove it but couldn't, so I just left it in the background. Now that someone pointed out how well it works out with the "Groucho connection", I am glad it's in there.

Yep, the tons of bitmaps used really had a toll in both download size and performance. I am what is known as a "graphics retard". I created very little of the games graphics from scratch, but simply salvaged existing clipart on the web. I put quite a bit of work into the game engine though.

Actually, I would recommend this game even without the ability to create the movies. It is a great simulation game, that is quite addicting on it's own.

Awesome catch! It was pretty hard to find hispanic sound clips, so I ended up using that one. It really worked out well though, and probably was my favorite sound clip in the game.

Actually, I've had this one idea for a few months now that I think really could draw some attention. With all of the media focus on violence/sex in video games, I wanted to create the most offensive game ever...something that has NO REDEEMING qualities whatsoever and breaks every taboo.

The problem is, I can't think of anything horrific enough. I think of the most awful thing I can imagine, for instance:

"A gang of AIDS infected schwoogies gang **** an infant to death, eat the remains, take a infant-remains shit on a plate, and rub the parents face in it."

Pretty bad, but I think there is worse out there (also, it might be tough to craft a game around this). I want something that would make fat midwestern housewives protest the Internets existence. Anyone have any ideas? Maybe someone can ask Bob Saget.

This game is based on Ant's weapon arsenal and fear of home invasions. You need the Macromedia Flash plugin to play it.

It's a pretty big movie. Sorry dial-up people. (30-60 second download for cable/dsl. 20 minutes for 56k)
Yes, I know about the goddamn typos in the game.
The cutscenes were created using a game called Movies DVD. The cutscene quality sucks a bit because I had to compress them so the game wouldn't be 100 mb.
I am a good developer, but I suck at graphics. If a good vector graphics guy wants to join me, we could really create some kick-ass stuff.
