Can someone please read this and let me know their thoughts. I know most people will see this and post something about wanting Cliff's Notes or "could it be any longer?," but if one lonely person can read this, I would really really really appreciate it.
Screwed Up Playoff Picture Posted By Team One Posted On 12/22/2005 7:04 PM ET
After talking to The Commissioner on wednesday, I felt strongly that i needed to post a message to feel out what other people felt about the Sunday semifinal between myself and Team Two.
The first week of the playoffs, I realized that my team was good enough to win but that i needed insurance to be safe. I picked up Jacksonville's def and dropped the Eagles def. I then subseqeuntly put the def in my lineup during the week; I believe tuesday. When the semifinals were played this past weekend, I didn't go onto the website until Sunday to check the scores because i had guys playing both days. When i turned on the live scoring, I realized there was a mistake and my def was not there. I notified The Commissioner that i put them in and somehow the computer didn't recoginze the activation. The Commissioner then said he would call Team Two's owner and tell him what happened and that it probably wouldn't be a big deal. He also said he would notify me if there were any problems later in the day. I was not notified by The Commissioner and when i checked it monday afternoon, I realized The Commissioner made the change and figured he cleared it with Team Two. Now, two days later The Commissioner calls and decides he was unfair and Team Two is going to win afterall bec my defense happened to score 8 points and was the differenence maker. I don't know that there is a clear way to determine who is right or wrong. I know that all year i played a full lineup every week. I played Team Two four times this year including last week. I would be undefeated except for one week when i purposely sat out four guys to prove a point to another team. (I lost that bet). I think it is unfair to give his team the win based on a computer problem. Fantasy football is not about computers. I wouldn't have spent the time to pick up the defense and not start them! I want to hear everyones thoughts. I am still unsure if the Commish has made a decision. I almost believe ??????'s thought of a threeway playoff is the only fair way.

I agree with Team One in that I don't know if there is a clear way to determine who is right or wrong and I think it is unfortunate that our league's first instance of a botched line-up has to occur in the final week. Given any other week, this probably wouldn't have been an issue. But, it is the playoffs and we have to make a decision.
Given the lack of facts (we can't prove if it was computer error or operator error unfortunately), I think we have to fall back on the responsibility of each owner to set his line-up. If the the line up had been checked sometime between tuesday and saturday game time, this would have been caught. I understand the reasoning that the defense would not have been picked up it he had not intended to play it, but I feel that any other way would be doing Team One a favor and the Team Two an injustice.
Regardless of my thoughts above, I will say as the other team winning this past week, that I will not agree to a three way playoff. It would be unfair to have my chances of winning reduced from 50% to 33%. The introduction of some agreed upon safety provisions may persuade me to reconsider, but I will not agree to a straight up three way playoff. I shouldn't suffer because of this error.

First of all, thanks for all your thoughts Team 3. I understand your position and see where you are coming from. I have one point to make and then i will move on from all this craziness. The Commissioner is an innocent person in this whole situation because he doesn't benefit from this in anyway either way. But, with that said. He made a decision on Sunday. He went into the computer and changed the lineup to put my defense in there. He could have easily called me and told me we need to have a vote or overall could have made an executive decision before the games were even close to being over. It just so happens I was losing in the beginning of the day and then scored a lot of points later in the day and eventually went ahead. But, with that said, The Commissioner never called at all. He never said we have a problem. Then, I get a call wednesday night. Something is very shady about this whole situation.
At this point, I will give one more solution. I get my measly $100 back and then, you and Team Two can play each other for the championship for the rest of the $. And all i can say is that i will love to watch when my team outscores everyone anyway. By the way, if you can't tell, I am a little ticked off about this whole thing. It would be nice to watch the two best teams play each other. But it is sad that people can fight over money and be so petty. Do you consider a win a win even if the competitor lets you win? Because team on team, I won.
Week 15 Team One vs. Team Two
On Sunday, December 18th , at approximately 2:15 p.m., I received a call from Player One (Team One) informing me that his DST (Jacksonville) was not showing up on his Live Scoring. I told Player One that I have the access to change the lineup, but I would have to inform his opponent. At this point the Jacksonville game was in progress. I had never made a change to anyone’s lineup after the games had started, so I was not sure of the technical limitations. I told Player One that I would activate them and talk to Team Two. I changed his lineup at 7:02 p.m. Player One says that he set his lineup with Jacksonville in the DST slot.
Team Two contacted me with an e-mail on Monday morning stating that he had been watching the Live Scoring on Saturday and Sunday and noticed that Player One did not have a starting Defense/Special Teams in his active roster. He asked me how Player One’s roster went from 7 to 8 players after the games had started. I told him that I was investigating the issue and needed more information.
Here are Player One’s identified transactions in chronological order:
Release Philadelphia Eagles 12/13 11:11:46 AM
Pickup Jacksonville Jaguars 12/13 11:11:46 AM
Release Brian Westbrook 12/13 11:11:46 AM
Pickup Jimmy Smith 12/13 11:11:46 AM
Bench Steven Jackson 12/15 12:05:25 PM
Activate DeShaun Foster 12/15 12:05:25 PM
Bench Chad Johnson 12/15 12:06:26 PM
Activate Jimmy Smith 12/15 12:06:26 PM
As you can see from the transactions Player One picked up two players and only activated one. There is no way to find out if there was a computer error or user error, but it is clear that his intentions were to replace his current Defense with the Jaguar's defense. Player One has stated that once he sets his lineup he does not often go back to the website to check his lineup, and therefore it was his impression that his lineup was set.
I don't know about you, but I got into this to have fun and it has not been fun deciding who is the winner of this game. In reality both guys have a strong case and I feel like this should be settled by the players. I am proposing that the result of the game be treated as a tie and will be settled by the bench.
Team One
Brett Favre QB 5
Steven Jackson RB 8
Michael Bennett RB 4
Chad Johnson WR 15
Roy Williams WR/TE 8
Donald Driver WR/TE 5
Plaxico Burress WR/TE 3
Sebastian Janikowski K 1
Jacksonville Jaguars DST 8
Total bench points: 57
Team Two
Jake Delhomme QB 16
Drew Bledsoe QB 9
Mike Anderson RB 21
Fred Taylor RB 7
Curtis Martin RB 0
Michael Clayton WR 2
Joe Horn WR 0
Keenan McCardell WR/TE 14
Total Bench Points: 69
Therefore Team Two wins.
I will allow the other owners to vote on this decision and majority rules. Please call me to say yes or no to this decision and it will be final.
Thanks
