Adam Schefter of the NFL Network reports that Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy might consider retiring from coaching after the season. In the past, Dungy has openly talked about leaving football for the ministry. Dungy did not want to entirely miss out on the childhood of his children and the loss of his son James might have an affect on his thinking. A devoted family man, Dungy might spend more time thinking about it. Should the Colts win the Super Bowl, could Dungy pull a Dick Vermeil and retire from coaching after reaching the summit?

Dungy could never get it done in Tampa. I think James killed himself and any superbowl hopes for the colts. did james eatabullit.com or how did he do it?

I read something about it being an 'accidental' death. Could be a suicide though, sucks to be him.

Can you blame him? He lost a child. While it appears it was a suicide and that's just a pussy way out of dealing with your problems, it leaves a devastated family. After losing a son, does football really matter? Does the superbowl matter? No, only family matters. He has made enough money, he doesn't need to coach for anything but the love of the game. If he has no more love for it because of this, then he should walk away and start healing.

how does this apply to Tony Dungy...the guy is a millionare and is in a position where he can leave his job if he chooses to. tough shit for you that you couldn't do so if you were hit with a tragedy. he never said everyone whose son died should leave their job...he said he couldn't blame him if he did walk away and neither would I. so if Dungy leaves his job he is a quitter and a pussy and not someone who knows they have enough money to live happily and wants to spend time with his kids.

Wonderful post sir. Not to mention the fact that there are millions and millions of people who watch Tony Dungy do his job every week and then criticize every little move he made for the next week. He earned his money as a player and coach and if he feels that he cannot to continue to give his fans and players 100% after something as terrible as this and he wants to walk away, thats his choice. Something like this tends to chance a person's perspective of what's really important in life. Next time 6 million people watch bricklaying on TV then you guys can criticize Dungy for his decision.
Edit: I just want to emphasize how big of an ass someone has to be to make me agree so strongly with something Cricket said.

You all want to know what I mean and how does it apply to dungy. He signed acontract millionare or not, bottom fucking line. Leave when the contract is up or get fired one of the 2. There are millions of other jobs out there where you cant leave if sign a contract. How would you like it if our countrys military just got upo and left becasue they didnt like it, they cant handle that they lost someone, they rather do something else. Suck it the fuck up and take being a minister as a hobby until your contract is up.

That's all fine and dandy but the NFL is not the military last time I checked. Nor is it like any other job out there. Coaches are hired, fired, and quit all the time. Most of the time when they are fired or they quit it is for stupid reasons. This time, it is a VERY legitimate reason. The man lost a child. Why the fuck would he care about something as trivial as the NFL now? He has earned enough money and done enough in this league that if he wants to walk away and be closer to his family, then more power to him. You can't possibly understand what he is going through, so for you try to stand in judgement and tell him that he needs to "suck it the fuck up" until his contract is over is just retarded and shows your utter lack of understanding of even basic human emotions.

yes i have a lack of emotions for someone who does not want to forfill a contract wether he is a coach or a player a employee at wallmart under contract. It doesnt fucking matter to me. You have people in this country who dont fucking care. I am one of them. I buy tickets to events to see a team. Part of that money goes to the coach son living or not. I pay for that ticket I expect all the members who are under contract to be there. I understand that there are events in which to miss a game. But he needs to get over it and do his duty. Do any of you think that Dungee would honestly give a flying fuck if your kid died and you offered a service that he wanted and you just quit. I think not. You can lie to yourself and everyone else and say yes but the answer is no. And for you to attack someone else who didnt care and hope for his kids to die, is childish and immature. I dont care if anyone appolgises to me fgor anything like that because Im not going to appolise until mother shucker gets an appology for that. And as far as it not being the milatary I know that as well, Dungee was not in Iraq for 13 months have a family member Die and get told to suck it the fuck up you can grieve in 3 months when you go home. I know that. But he can atleast take care of his shit and do his fucking multi million dollar job. Just becasue he is a million air doesnt make him better than anyone.

You also have a lack of spelling and grammar sense, and you're fucking utterly ridiculous. If the owner of the Colts had a problem with Dungy breaking his contract then he would sue him. Obviously he doesn't. But YOU do. So, obviously YOU being so fucking close to the situation and people involved know whats best.
Do any of you think that Dungee would honestly give a flying fuck if your kid died and you offered a service that he wanted and you just quit. I think not. You can lie to yourself and everyone else and say yes but the answer is no.
You cant make that assumption because you dont know the man. But you know what, if say, for example, Larry Brown's kid died and Dungy was a huge Knicks fan (hypothetically obviously) and L.B. decided to quit, you dont think Mr. Dungy would be sympathetic to his situation? Especially given what he himself has just been through, of course he would. Think about it like this, if God forbid, Anthony's brother Joe died tragically and Ant decided that he MIGHT quit because he didnt feel he could be funny anymore (all this is also within a couple days of said tragedy) would you start a thread saying "Anthony is a pussy, suck it up, who cares?" You sir, are an ass.
And as far as it not being the milatary I know that as well, Dungee was not in Iraq for 13 months have a family member Die and get told to suck it the fuck up you can grieve in 3 months when you go home.
Two things about this assinine statement. First, when you go to war you fully expect to be isolated from your family and friends. Thats part of it, you have to prepare yourself for things like that. Personally, I'm in the union, I signed a contract to get into the union, and you know what? If I become unhappy with my job and decide I dont want to do it anymore, I can walk. No questions, no "Hey, you have a contract, suck it up." The end game of this whole thing is, it has nothing to do with any of us, and you have absolutly no right to criticize Dungy (spelt correctly) for what he decides to do with his life.
And second, you're comapring WAR to the fucking GAME of football.

You think that buying tickets to games, or subbing to DirectTV Sunday Ticket gives you some kind of say? Well it fucking doesn't. And if the Colts owner decides to let Dungy out of his contract that you hold in such high fucking regard, then he wouldn't be obligated to be there under the fucking high and mighty expectations of "timmy tonsils". Go shit yourself.

So, do you get this pissed off when a player is cut or a coach is fired? That's a breach of contract as well.

That is not a breech of contract read the fine print in the failure to perfrom section.

Yes I have a lack of spelling and grammer try another one to come at me with. Sorry cock doesnt phase me. The problem I have is that people need to honor what they say they are going to do million-airs or not. This is a big problem in all of pro sports and Im tired of hearing about it. I hope he does sue him.

I understand what your saying but in my eyes he would need to finish out his contract. And if I saw again what you guys said to another person for voicing there opinion and hoping his kids die, I will be doing the same thing. And you sir are an ass for not dropping it after that.

Yes I understand that war is not a game and football is a game and they are not even close to being alike. But obviously you do not understand what I was trying to get the point I was trying to get to you. HE HAS A SIGNED CONTRACT. war is different but contracts do not change. You walk away from your job, good for you. I hope you and the union have a succesful break in your termination. P:ersonally Im in the navy I have a signed contract and If I walk away I go to jail for being a deserter. Oh well shit happens. That story by the way was my brother who was involuntaraly extended 3 times over there, and is still there by the way 18 months later. We both understand when we deploy we lose all touch with people. But if you do get to go for an emergency (which 98% of the time you do) you still need to return to fucking work. Thank you for spelling dungy correct for me, and I do have a right to critisize dungy (1st amendment), but once again this is how I feel about this shit happening all the time (not nessaceraly being a death).
You think that buying tickets to games, or subbing to DirectTV Sunday Ticket gives you some kind of say? Well it fucking doesn't. Being alive give me the right to say what I said. Once again what gave you 2 the right to tell someone that you hope his kids die? All he did was voice his opinion. If you dont give a shit or care about the expectations of "Timmy Tonsils" than quit quoting me and drop it all I did was voice my opinion after you bashed some one for voicing theres. You dont like it ok terrific. I hope i shit my self i need to put new under ware on.
Subbing to DTV is different than buying a ticket. Beleive it or not.
In closing gentleman all Im saying he has a contract and all in all he should forfill it. And you have no right to tell anyone that there kids should be killed for feeling the same way I do, wether you like the opinion or not live with it, not everybody sees eye to eye on everything like baseball season. If you think im an ass I dont care. But you are not actually trying to see what I am saying.
