I played the entire game up until the second tier of the final boss fight. I wanted to leave the game with good memories, not with white hot rage....

GoW, overrated piece of shit.

I'm sorry, but the uber Combo "System" is nothing new whatsoever. You can find the same thing in most sub-par action/platform game, like any Castlevania PS2 game. The enemies are mehish too, especially the repititive lineup of them. Just when you thought you were done with a certain type of enemy, like those staff/blade guys, HERE COMES THE MINOTAURS... AGAIN.

Puzzles were annoying too. Especially the fucking towers of blades in hell, and the room of saws and levers. The only slightly redeeming part were the button sequences, even then those became useless out of boss fights since they were either for health/magic orbs or for more experience, but those were usually from the ogres which like i said were uncommon is most spots.

Fuck GoW, i can't believe i wasted money renting it to prove to myself what i already knew

Fuck that, don't ever compare GoW to the piece of shit Castlevania games.

GoW isn't supposed to have a DEEP battle system. It's just fucking fun and satisfying.

Sir, i wasn't comparing the quality, i was comparing the combo system, which they are the same..

As for Fun and satisfying... BAH, Devil May Cry 3, beat it on Hard mode/Dante must Die and then feel satisfied..

What the hell, did I just make fun of your dead mother? Don't get so excited. And are you really that upset you spent $7 to rent a game? When I started playing this game, I was thinking "is it going to be as great as everyone says it is?" But that first level with the hydras was great. With games that are hyped up as much as GoW was, theres bound to be people put off by that.

Anyways, the game took me about 10 hours I believe. I just started getting into it recently. And I agree with the other guy, its not supposed to be some deep, intuitive fighting system just a really fun one where everything blends together. I had a fucking blast playing it.

The boss battles at first are a bitch (there aren't that many), but then you learn their moves (like every other game) and work around them. I loved the boss fights leading up to the final cinematic, felt it was very well done. All I have to say when it comes to Ares is you better have rage of the gods charged up (and it comes handy too during the clone battle). In the very last battle, dodging and L1+X (gift of zeus I think its called) are your friend.

At a certain point (once you get blades of chaos upgraded to level 5) everything just clicks. Thats definitely when I started having the most fun with the game. On xmas day I had a couple people watching (they saw the minotaur fight too) and you can keep it pretty damn interesting. And oh yeah, playing this game on a widescreen with progessive scan is THE way to go. Its gorgeous.

It also unlocks extras at the end too that were very cool. I've watched everything except the making of so far. They showed different characters concepts, deleted levels and enemies, the basic engine where kratos just looks like a normal soldier running around hitting simple skeletons, pretty interesting stuff.

In terms of the DMC3 comment, I checked that game out the other day. Then I remembered how much fun the other games were.... I don't buy games to get incredibly pissed off and curse and chuck controllers. I might check it out down the line, but I've already got tons of other games to move onto as is.

edit: At the end, I definitely felt satisfied. By the time I finished the last fight with Ares, I think I was sweating (sweatshirt didn't help). The part with the Kratos clones was the most irritating by far, but its possible. I felt the ending was good as well, a very finished product overall.

I wasn't doing an angry post, hard typing on the keyboard. It's called analyzing. I've been playing games for years, and i know how to analyze games that are overrated like GoW, and i feel the need to break it down and dare i say, nitpick at it.

Like so, i felt the Ares fight was boring since there was such an easy pattern and systematic way of beating him, like most of the bosses. If you are a Casual gamer that doesn't mind a bit repeative game play, this game is fine. However if you are looking for a challenge based on difficulty and better story and not frustrating puzzle sequences and/or something a bit deeper, then you should save your money until something more innovative comes out.

Did you have problems with the first few levels of DMC3?

Monstercloud

Minus Gigapede, i had a real problem with the bosses up to Agni and Rudra. I got a hold of the combo stuff and stuck with Rebellion and A&R, swordmaster style for a while. Never got the big deal about Beowolf until i dropped swordmaster and picked up trickster.

$15 USED!? Dude, it retails NEW for $19.99. Its a greatest hits title.

Its a decent game, but I wasnt all that impressed. The Hell sequences really left me with a sour taste in my mouth.

Just wait until Hades. Youll wish you were actually in Hades personally instead of playing though that horseshit puzzle.

Don't get me started on this again.

It's the Halo of action/platformers.

I gave up at that point. Got too fucking frustrating, and I couldn't be bothered to look up hints and guides.

Guides did almost no good anyway. It was just a frustrating, stupid, "lets add another 90 minutes to the game because its too short" pile of shit.

I was on the third tier.

Great game, but holy fuck!!!! Some of us can't tap the fucking button 100 times in 10 seconds!!!!

Great game, but I couldn't take any more of that shit.

Shame, too. I was digging the story.

If you like banging your head against the wall like me you'll go from GoW right to Ninja Gaiden Black and get to sample that little piece of stroke inducing goodness.

I don't know what it is about some developers but they insist on these brutal save systems that force you to replay huge blocks of gameplay for no apparent reason other than to give it a false sense of "challenge". I could probably live with that if there were a decent set of cheats to bypass the toughest spots but the current trend is to omit cheats altogether.
