With the end of the regular season, today was the first day of firing time. No big surprises, the Saints booted Haslett and the Packers sent Mike Sherman sailing. I bet bringing in college coaches is gonna be the new trend because of Saban's success in Miami.

I think the current count is 5:

1. Texans fired Dom Capers
2. Packers fired Mike Sherman
3. Rams fired Mike Martz
4. Saints fired Jim Haslett
5. Vikings fired Mike Tice

The head coach of Iowa (I think his name is Ferentz or something like that) is considered to be one of the top college coaches possibly looking to go to the NFL next year and when he was asked about there being about 4-5 positions available, he said he heard it was going to be closer to 8-12. Although I doubt a third of the league will fire their coaches, you can't completely count out the possibility of one or two more being canned by the time the pro bowl rolls around. Good luck bro's!

Holly shit, I didn't think about it like that. There's going to be a lot of teams that are fucked as far as talented coaches go, like how Detroit was for a while (they're fucked again too).

I forgot about the Mariucci firing earlier in the season as well, damn there probably is going to be about a third of the league with a new head coach next year.

Tom Benson does not deserve to be owner of a franchise.

After all that New Orleans went through, he gives indications that he wants to stay in San Antonio or move to LA. When the league steps in and forces them to return to tha Bayou, he cans Jim Haslett for the poor season.

Hello? Is it me or did the Southeast go through the worst hurricane seaon ever and they basically played 16 road games.

To fire him shows how short-sighted the owner is. Now who the hell would want to work there?

The Packers canned Mike Sherman. I don't get this one either. Mainly because it came a year too late.

Tice should have been fires after week 4. When the team's bye week resulted in sexual assault on a boat he should have been canned immeditatly.

To keep him around and flirt with a playoff berth only to can him anyway makes no sense.

Dick Vermiel left on a great note and I am glad he did. He was a work-a-holic that changed his philosophy after his tenure with the Eagles. It is rare to see a coach have such a change in his style as he did. YOu could always see his passion for the game and his love for his players. Class act and great to see him leave the way he did.

Capers... about time. He is not a good head coach. A good defensive coordinator perhaps but he just cant run the whole show.

While I agree with you that benson is a weasel (what owner isn'tthough) but you seriously can't be pissed that Haslett was fired, the Saints should have fired him LAST YEAR, they fell apart 2 years in a row under him, while having decent talent, maybe not enough to win a super bowl but definitely enough to make the playoffs....
