KIMO busted for meth

Cops: UFC Legend Has Finally Meth His Match
Posted Feb 16th 2009 7:17PM by TMZ Staff

He's kicked the crap out of all sorts of UFC fighters, but now Kimo Leopoldo is battling a serious drug charge.

TMZ has learned the famously tatted MMA badboy was arrested by Tustin police Monday afternoon after they spotted the 6'3", 235 lb fighter wearing a Long Beach Police Dept. jumpsuit, complete with patches and a cloth badge -- a badge only cops are allowed to wear. The officers -- the real officers -- then searched Kimo's ride, where they claim to have found "a small amount of what is believed to be meth."

Kimo, who famously lost to Royce Gracie in UFC 3, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and is still in police custody. Cops say there will also be an investigation into where the 41-year-old got his hands on the LBPD gear.

ANother over rated japanese fighter ko'd in under a minute. And people rank Aoki above sherk, penn and florian. I'm so tired of hearing about these japanese and lesser org fighters getting ranked so high. I understand he fought at welterweight but he got ko'd in 27 seconds. can you even think that any of the guys I've mentioned are getting ko'd that quick

It's like music. All the "insiders" think Indie Music is much better than the big time mainstream. It's because they want to be bandwagon for the next big thing before it's big.

In reality, if most of the indie is music is as good as they think it is, it would be big time and not some douche selling cd's out of his car in a gas station parking lot.

So Aoki can't take a punch or knee (or throw a punch), it's not like it is a big part of MMA. He is still an amazing submission guy and, although I'm in the minority, I'd take a great sub over KO any day.

They fight so many more cans and get impressive W/L records then come here and get dominated by fighters that only fight a few times a year.

I had huge hopes for CroCop but we missed his prime.

Punching is not a big part of MMA?

I am gonna assume you were drunk or high when you wrote that retarded statement. Mixed is just that, a strictly sub guy will get his ass handed to him every time if that is all the game he got...why do you think Hughes embarrassed Gracie? It wasn't because he was older, it was because he was old school, he never evolved.

Punching not a big part of MMA, fucking christ.

dont know if im breaking any news here cuz im too lazy to check, but....

from kenny florians newsletter:

“I am happy to announce that I will be fighting BJ Penn on August 8th in Philadelphia, PA at UFC 101 for the UFC Lightweight title. I signed the fight contract over the weekend. It’s going to be my first time fighting on the East Coast for the UFC and I will be training hard to represent my “Beast Coast” fans! My training camp will begin in June and then it will be full steam ahead till August. BJ Penn has been a wrecking machine at 155lbs and I guarantee that our fight will showcase MMA at its highest level.”

if this is true. thats fuckin sweet. ufc in philly deserves its own thread.
(unless it already exists, then i'm an ass...)

Keith Jardine vs Thiago Silva for UFC 102

After UFC 101 opponent Forrest Griffin was pulled from their co-headliner to meet Anderson Silva in a blockbuster matchup, Thiago Silva didn’t have to wait long to be matched up with a new opponent, though his next fight will take place several weeks later than originally scheduled.

According to MMAjunkie, Silva and Keith Jardine have agreed to meet at UFC 102 on August 29th in Portland, Oregon.

Silva suffered his first career loss to Lyoto Machida in his most recent bout, falling victim to a first-round knockout at UFC 94 in January. He had previously won all 13 bouts of his career, including 4 straight UFC victories over James Irvin, Tomasz Drwal, Houston Alexander, and Antonio Mendes.

Jadine has gone just 2-3 in his last five bouts inside the octagon, but has faced stiff competition over the streatch. After becoming Houston Alexanders first victim, Jardine bounced back with a victory over Chuck Liddell. After suffering another quick knockout loss to Wanderlei Silva, Jardine rebounded with a win Brandon Vera. “The Dean of Mean” was last in action in March in the UFC 96 headliner against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, but suffered a unanimous decision loss.

The fight makes a lot of sense, and as soon as i read that Forest was fighting AS instead of Thiago, this match up was the first to come to mind. It also fits the pattern of Jardine being the gatekeeper of the LHW division...

Should be a war, Jardine has never lost 2 fights in a row, but I think Thiago puts a stop to that streak, as I don't see Jardine beating him.

Colt Toombs sheds "Rowdy" wrestling lineage while forging his own path

Like many up-and-coming fighters, undefeated amateur competitor Colt Toombs is slowly gaining ring experience while focusing on a bid for an eventual professional MMA career.

The young combatant recently earned a knockout win in the SportFight organization, the third straight stoppage of his budding career.

While amassing three-straight wins is an impressive start for any young fighter, Toombs is newsworthy for not only his in ring prowess, but also his impressive stock as the son of World Wrestling Entertainment hall-of-famer "Rowdy" Roddy Piper.

"I'm really proud of him," Piper said in a recent interview with MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). "He goes by his Christian name, Colten Toombs, because he doesn't want to ride of his fathers name. He wants to make it on his own."

And so far, Toombs has been able to climb up the ladder with his fists alone.

In a fight where Toombs only knew his opponent as a "kickboxer," Toombs admitted in a pre-fight interview that his plan was simply, "To box [Tim Shrout] as much as I can, and if he [began] beating me up, then take him down."

The fight with Shrout in SportFight ended up as an entirely stand up affair. Toombs maintained control of the pace as he stalked his opponent, peppering him with a variety of punches and kicks throughout the first round.

Toombs did not earn the win without facing adversity. Shrout landed a vicious knee in the opening round that opened up a bloody cut over the Team Quest product's right eye.

In the second round, Toombs relentless pace paid off. The aspiring professional pressured Shrout into the corner and chopped him down with shots to the body and head. The damage added up, and the referee was forced to call a stop to the action less than one minute into the second frame.

The 145-pound fighter had managed to out-box the kickboxer, a feat he credits to tutelage he received throughout his childhood.

"I did a lot of boxing growing up with my dad, and I also did other various martial arts, including wrestling and training with ("Judo") Gene Lebell," Toombs said.

Although he has found success early, Toombs admits that patience is a virtue he struggles with.

"I'd like to have at least a couple more fights for experience," Toombs said. "But being a kid, of course I want to jump in there with the top guys right now."

As for when his step up in competition will come, Toombs is content to leave that decision to two voices of experience: Piper, of course, as well as Team Quest coach and perennial middleweight contender Matt Lindland.

"If Matt or my dad don't feel I am ready, then I am more than happy to wait," Toombs said.

Piper feels that the young fighter will benefit from a slow progression and overcoming adversity, rather than trying to cash in quick on his famous lineage.

"In his second fight, his opponent had about a four-inch reach (advantage) on him, and was kicking the dog out of Colt for the entire round and almost choked him out with a guillotine," Piper said. "Yet somehow Colt got his head out of there, made it to the second round, and choked[his opponent] out."

"Those are the kind of fights that test you."

Toombs agrees with his father and is more than content to pay his dues until his time has come.

"It's nothing I want to rush," Coombs said. "I am only 19 years old, so I have plenty of time to do what I need to do in the sport."
