Or so I think, I guess.
My brother just got back from FL from a 6 month Disney internship/enslavement. He had my laptop on his trip. when I get it back, thankfully there's no viruses, popups, or other malware. but, his user name is significantly reduced in speed. I check the properties, and it "says" that the processor is 591mHz. That should be wrong, since i know it hovers between 1.1 and 1.6 gHz. I double check with a new account, and it's back to normal.
Any tips from the IT pros on how to clean and whhere I can get cheap notebook memory and what speed memory an ECS Elitegroup Laptop would need?

Someone changed a setting to reduce power consumption?

Check the power properties. Or see if some kinda CPU management utility was installed. I went to install Age of Empires III on my laptop and it told me that my system didn't meet the minumum requirements. It requires a 1.4 GHZ CPU and I have a P4 2.0 GHZ. The settings were configured for maximum power savings so it was running at below 1GHZ.

I haven't done it myself, but from working at Disney, I know alot of those people. Even though the money and hours suck, it's a constant party and one of the top 10 easiest places in the country to get laid. I trust he didn't have it too bad (unless he had no $ for booze)...

Were you running on battery power at the time? That usually auto enables the powersave feature that then steps down the processor....
Intel has built a technology into their processors called "Speed Step" the speed of the processor is slowed down during times of little demand in order to conserve battery life. While the computer is plugged in however the bios should dispense with any power conservation measures as they would be superfluous.

Was MR's bro coming back from a Disney theme park internship? I've heard those are fun, but for those of us that have paid our dues in other parts of the Disney empire, all I can say is, we don't call it Mousechwitz for nothing.
(Yes, I know about Opie's mouse problem. But we've been calling it Mousechwitz (or Duckau) for many many years.)
