TRASHERS GIVE UP TWO SHORTHANDED GOALS--FALL 4-2 TO MOTOR CITY
FRASER, MI--Former Trashers captain Brent Gretzky scored Motor City's first goal and added an assist as the Mechanics scored a pair of shorthanded goals in the second period to come from behind and defeat the Trasher s 4-2 on Friday night at The Garage.
Gretzky scored just 1:07 into the opening period as he knocked in a rebound past Jayme Platt following a Kyle Kos shot. The Trashers tied it a few minutes later as Justin Laverdiere wristed one by Rod Branch at the 6:03 mark.
The Trashers scored in the second period as Dave MacIsaac's power play goal gave Danbury a 2-1 lead at the 8:15 mark. However, Scott Dobbin and Kris Vernarsky scored shorthanded goals 36 seconds apart to give the Mechanics a 3-2 lead. Matt Smith added a power play goal at 18:59 to give Motor City a 4-2 advantage.
Platt stopped 28 of 32 shots as Danbury dropped their second straight game, while Rod Branch saved 35 of 37. Despite the loss, Danbury still has a one point lead in the UHL East Division after Adirondack's 2-1 shootout loss on Friday night.
Also Danbury lost their top goalie (and best in the UHL Sylvan Daigle) to injury and the backups are just horrid. so it will be a bumpy ride for the team till sly gets back.

KINNIE'S FOUR POINT NIGHT LEADS FLINT TO 5-4 SHOOTOUT WIN OVER TRASHERS
FLINT, MI--It looked like the Trashers were going to run away and hide with an easy win on Saturday night in Flint, but Danbury was found in the second period. Despite a 3-0 lead by the 7:50 mark of the first period, the Flint Generals came from behind to force a shootout and defeat the Trashers 5-4 at Perani's Hockey World.
David Hymovitz, Regan Kelly and Mario Larocque beat Flint netminder Peter Brady by the 7:50 mark of the opening period when Bobby Reynolds replaced him with Jason Saal.
Leo Thomas scored at the 15:37 mark of the second period to make it 3-1 in favor of Danbury. Mike Kinnie would score a pair of goals sandwiched around Jason Selleke's game-tying goal in the third.
Dave MacIsaac scored his 6th of the season to re-tie the game at 4-4 at the 7:55 mark of the final period.
J.M. Daoust and Sergei Durdin scored in the shootout while Sean Starke, Terry Marchant and Matt Elich scored for Flint. Elich's shot was the game-winner in the 5th round.

actually thats not totally right
2 for win
1 for OT or Shoot Out Loss
0 for regulation loss
there is no more ties, I don't know the way the UHL does it but most minor leagues use this system too.

in the UHL it is the following:
there is no overtime. it goes directly to shootouts. each team gets one point. you battle for the other point with a shootout. i'd like to see the UHL go to a 5 minute overtime and then shootouts.

The Trashers opened the scoring on a power play goal from Hymovitz at the 10:06 mark from Regan Kelly and Troy Smith, while they extended their lead to 2-0 just 1:13 into the second period. Drew Omicioli fired a shot that was deflected in by Barnes for his second of the season, while Eric Lind also earned an assist in his first game with Danbury after signing a PTO earlier in the day.
Omicioli scored his 17th of the season in the third period from Fred Belanger and Shawn Collymore at the 3:20 mark. Flint's Leo Thomas knocked in a rebound for the Generals only goal at the 9:39 mark.
Jason Saal stopped 38 of 41 shots in the loss, while the Trashers increased their lead to six points in the UHL East Division following their second straight win.

Too bad Richmond won't be in the UHL next year, and Trashers owner will probably be in jail for tax evasion. Danbury seems like a great drinking town. I'd love to find an excuse to go back....

the untied hockey league is an independent hockey league. it falls between the AHL and ECHL. If a player doesn't catch on to A or E team they usually play there. the play is more aggressive and I feel better than the watered down NHL. The guys hit hard...and fight hard in this league. There are two former teams in this league that were in the IHL. The Kalamazoo Wings and the Fort Wayne Comets. Danbury lost last night to the Quad City Mallards in Game 1 of the UHL Semi Finals at the Danbury Ice Arena. Danbury looked very flat. They were not taking the body at all or being aggressive with the puck. You can read the details below.
JASON TAPP STOPS 41 SHOTS AS TRASHERS ARE TAPPED OUT BY QUAD CITY 6-4 IN GAME ONE
DANBURY, CT--Despite an early 1-0 lead from the Trashers, it was the Quad City story on Friday at the Danbury Ice Arena as they scored unanswered five times between the first and second periods to build a 5-1 lead and an eventual 6-4 win in Game One of the Colonial Cup Opening Round Playoff at the Danbury Ice Arena.
David Hymovitz knocked in a rebound past Jason Tapp at the 12:41 mark to give the Trashers a 1-0 lead. Quad City was caught in a line change and Hymovitz backhanded a rebounded shot from JM Daoust past Jason Tapp, with Sergei Durdin earning the other assist.
However the Mallards started their run on a fluke goal, as a dumped puck by Glenn Detulleo deflected off of referee Pat Britt and bounded to Matt Radoslovich who scored into an open net. Danbury goaltender Sly Daigle left the crease to play the puck behind his net, but the unexpected deflection left him out of position for a Mallards power play goal.
Quad City opened the second period with four more unanswered goals with the lead goal scored by Jesse Rycroft at 2:43 mark, then one by Patrick Nadeau, who stole an errant pass and beat Daigle on a breakaway at the 4:51 mark to give the Mallards a 3-1 lead. Chad Woolard fired a one-timer past Daigle on a face-off win at the 5:49 mark from Detulleo and then Tom Clayton scored on a power play goal at the 7:14 mark.
Shawn Collymore would help the Trashers get back in the contest as he netted a shorthanded goal assisted by Mario Larocque at 11:40, then David Beauregard tallied a power play goal from Mike Omicioli and Larocque at 17:39 to cut the Mallards lead to 5-3 after two periods.
In the final period it was Samy Nasreddine scoring a power play goal at the 8:14 mark off a rebounded shot to give Quad City a 6-3 lead. The Mallards finished 3-9 with the man advantage.
Danbury earned a 5 on 3 power play with 2:02 left after Quad City's Jamie Yoder took a tripping penalty, followed by an illegal stick violation by Nasreddine. Drew Omicioli scored a power play goal at 19:47, but it was too late for the Trashers, who fall behind 1-0 in the best-of-seven series against the Mallards.
Sly Daigle stopped 29 of 35 shots on the Mallards, who also defeated Daigle in the opening playoff game last season while he was with Muskegon. The Mallards though lost that series in seven games to the eventual champion Fury. Jason Tapp saved 41 of 45 shots for his first playoff win of the season.
Danbury returns home for game two on Saturday night at 7:30pm. Games three, four and five are scheduled for Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at the MARK of the Quad Cities, with 8pm face-offs for each game.

Danbury Trashers.....NO MORE!! (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2482037)
UHL team cancels season after mob indictment
DANBURY, Conn. -- The Danbury Trashers, the minor league hockey team charged in a federal Mafia indictment, will not compete next season, the United Hockey League said Monday.
Team owner James Galante was arrested Friday on charges of racketeering, extortion, witness tampering and circumventing the league's salary cap. Prosecutors say he overpaid players and their wives under the table with money from his mob-connected garbage companies.
The United Hockey League did not indicate whether the team intends to regroup for the 2007-08 season. The team's players are expected to be dispersed in a draft later this week.
The league's brief press release said that the Trashers made a financial decision to disband after the New York-based Adirondack Frostbite, their closest geographical rival, suspended play for the coming season because of a lease issue.
The release does not mention that the Trashers are under federal indictment, that Galante is in prison awaiting trial, that his family's bank accounts have been frozen or that federal marshals are working out of the building where the Trashers and Galante's garbage companies were based.
Federal authorities said some hockey players and their wives had no-show jobs with Galante's garbage companies, allowing him to pump $750,000 into salaries when the team's cap was about $250,000.
The Trashers lost in the league finals to the Kalamazoo Wings last month.
Galante's trash conglomerate is among the most dominant in the region. Prosecutors say he paid $30,000 every three months to reputed Genovese crime family boss Matthew "Matty the Horse" Ianniello for mob muscle to maintain his company's dominance.
"It's something that we knew could happen," Trashers forward Drew Omicioli told The News-Times of Danbury. "Hopefully, it's one of those things where it could be settled for the following year."
The team's Web site had a brief message encouraging fans and advertisers to check back for information on refunds of their season ticket deposits.
