Apparently they really want him, or maybe they're raising the price to trade for him...

With Carr in place, Texans to take Bush

The Houston Texans will select USC running back Reggie Bush with the No. 1 pick in this April's NFL draft, pending the formality of Bush announcing that he is turning pro, team and league sources told Chris Mortensen.

Almost nothing will change that course, the sources say, even after the Texans received word Friday from an intermediary representing Texas quarterback Vince Young that the Houston native is leaning strongly to also going pro.

The Texans will pick up an $8 million option on quarterback David Carr, who was the expansion team's first draft pick four years ago. Texans owner Bob McNair made the decision after getting extensive evaluations from various sources that strongly endorsed Carr, including a favorable report from Dan Reeves, the former longtime NFL coach hired last month as a consultant.

USC's Matt Leinart, who could have been the first pick a year ago had he turned pro after his junior season, still remains the consensus top quarterback in the NFL draft, even if Young comes out. For Leinart, he is likely to be the choice of the New Orleans Saints at No. 2 with Young projected to the Tennessee Titans at No. 3.

Young would be mentored by Titans quarterback Steve McNair, who is hoping to sign a new contract with the club for the 2006 season.

Leinart also would be desirable to Tennessee, where his former USC offensive coordinator Norm Chow is now calling plays for the Titans.

as a Jets fan I'm thinking it figures huh?? Fucking 3 Top caliber picks in this draft and we're sitting at 4th.

Trade down and build if you can, unless they fuck that up too.

You never know, the Saints are in an odd spot in the draft and could possibly trade down to the Jets. Nearly Everyone who's doing mock drafts (this is good site (http://www.footballsfuture.com/2006/mock.html) and board for mocks (http://www.footballsfuture.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=45)) has Bush now going 1st to the Texans, Leinart 2nd to the Saints, and Young 3rd to the Titans.

But, Leinart doesn't have that strong of an arm (he's had many injuries and a surgery on his throwing arm already in his young career), and for a 6'5 statue-like pocket QB a strong arm is an important thing to have obviously. He's like a weak-armed Bledsoe, or a tall Pennington. I don't think the Saints are going to want to put the kind of cash that the #2 pick is expected to get into a player like Leinart, especially considering how many holes they have to fill, a new coach coming in (which almost always means trading down for more picks if there isn't a surefire selection available), and even if they did want him Leinart might pull an Eli and not want to play in N.O.

So, this all could create a bidding war for teams looking to step above the Titans to get Vince Young, and the Jets would be the first team you would want to trade down to if you were the Saints. They have the next best pick available after the Titans, some decent players to maybe part with for cap purposes anyway, and they're in a different conference, so they Saints would see as little of Vince throughout his career as possible if he became a great player.

may as well start working on his contract now. They just used their "buy back" option on David Carr, he's locked up for $8 million and the next 3 seasons.

maybe if they're lucky there will be an amazing number of OL later in the draft

I did not see it but is does not surprise me about Vince Young. I have never seen a QB who runs around do well in the NFL. The only one who has was Steve Young and he developed in to a drop back QB who could run when needed. Vick, Culpepper, and the rest just run and chuck the ball downfield. Notice how Clupepper's numbers dropped without Moss. Moss was not there to bail him out. Vick has never had a good reciever so he can't be bailed out. Meanwhile, slow QB's like Brady and Rothlisberger just win Super Bowls. Look at the past few winners. Brady, Rothlisberger, Dilfer, and Brad Johnson. All slow but they can manage a game and pass in the pocket. They don't run at the first sign of trouble.

Also, Texas is making a mistake taking Reggie. They have a good RB, they need an O line and some D. They should trade the pick and build their team. Besides, when has a scat back like Bush ever done anything besides disappoint.
