If so, how do I combine files with different speeds? One file is at 22050Hz and the other is 44100Hz. Combining them makes one of them sound very fast and I would like to figure out how to combine them sucessfuly.

I think you have to convert the 44100Hz down to 22050Hz, as you can't convert the 22500Hz up. They have to be the same Hz I think.
