I was at a NJ Devils game in late Dec and there were signs for XM everywhere. I just looked at the XM home page and no sign of NHL but Sirius has it on their home page did I miss something?
Or are they sharing it...

They both have it now, XM has exclusive rights after next season. They are also the only sponsor tommorrow when the Rangers retire Messier's jersey.

Exactly...it even appears that Sirius has the rights to use the various logos and entities of the NHL, probably until their contract ends. XM can't, that's why the NHL shield is not on XM's website. Once the 10 year deal with the NHL becomes exclusive, XM will be able to use whatever the hell they want.

Uhh.. I thought Sirius got full rights in 2007. Am I wrong?

Edit - Yes I AM wrong. It's NASCAR that goes to Sirius full-time in 2007. (OH NO!! :icon_roll )

I remember reading that the NFL and MLB were fully exclusive, which added to their costs as well. NBA and NHL (from what I remember) were never exclusive, and the NHL was able to sell to XM, although Sirius had the rights to the logo.

However, I have noticed XM advertising (billboards at games and on TV) at NBA games and XM is not only sponsoring Messier Night tonight, if you check out the ad in the post today they are the "Offical Satelite Radio of the New York Rangers".

I think although they cannot use the NHL logo, they are free to bid on sponsoring individual teams...and lock out the competition from advertising there.

A few years ago Sirius had their "Sirius....it's on" stuff everywhere at the garden...not anymore..
