Ive always been a counter-strike fan and I havent gotten the new game but I was wonderin which game should I get mostly for the multiplayer experience im not much of a single player fan... Should I get Counter-strike Source, Battlefield 2 or Call of duty 2?

Battle Field is better multiplayer then CoD2, go with battlefield.

BF2 is a great game. BF2 Special Forces is entirely too much like CS for my taste though.

Is it an expansion pack or can you download it?

BF2 is the original base game, and then Special Forces in an expansion pack for $30....

BF2 is the best multi player game out there right now in my book!

Special Sauces is more squad oriented but otherwise it doesn't have much in common with CS. You can buy from within the game menu and download it.

CoD2 MP is a great game but is far less forgiving than BF2 and CS. It's mainly geared towards hardcore players (how ppl play it on the 360 with a gamepad is beyond me) so unless you're particularly skilled don't buy it with MP in mind. Mindriot is also correct in that it is rife with hacker kiddies.

BF2 is the best choice for mainstream players plus there are a ton of mods in the works, many of which will be coming out within the next 4-6 months. Buying just CS won't give you access to that many mods (unless you plan on buying HL2 as well). Plus CS and CS: Source is just filled with annoying little fucktards.

yes, but its fun to get a bunch of friends together and annoy the little fuckers. my brother and i have done similar things like the cs video the boys played today. one thing thats fun to do is flashbang annoying teammates as they run into the warehouse on cs_assault.

if you hae source and play 1 corridor and just toss smoke bombs, that really grinds people's gears.

You will love the Source version if you were that big of a fan, and your still into that style of gameplay. I think most here are just over it and prefer Teamplay.
You say you don't really like SP but I think your cheating yourself if you don't give HL2 a run through!

If you buy the HL2 "Silver" version you basically get many games for the price of one. You get:

HL1
HL2
CS
CS SP
CS SP Lost episodes
CS: Source
Day of Defeat original
DoD: Source
Quake DM
Garry's mod (amazing fun)
several others I can't remember at the moment

Even if you never play the SP game it's still well worth the purchase.

Or you can be like me, buy 'em all :icon_mrgr

quake3 cpma (physics are the best of any game eva) or painkiller are probably the best fast-action multiplayer if you like that but hardly any US players :(

It is all close combat bump and jump, boom headshot, horseshit that I grew to dislike about CS.

some of it is close combat but a lot of it is not. cs maps are not even a fraction of the size of even the smallest maps on bf2. and after the patch u wont be able to jump and shoot.

I've only ever played FPS on consoles, I was never really into them on the PC. You get the hang of it with a gamepad, and once you are used to it, it's as easy as you find it with a mouse a keyboard.

Dunno. I downloaded it on release day and played for about 5 hours and hated it. Maybe I'll give it another chance.

Quake 3 had no physics engine at all (except for simple vector algorithms for weapons). Everything is pre-rendered animation.

Painkiller has indeed awesome physics. As far as MP goes it is extremely hardcore. Many pro players feel it is the true spiritual successor to Quakeworld The only people playing are/were the guys practicing for the CPL competition. Definitely not a game to buy strictly for its online stuff (the SP is in my top 3 of all time faves though).

FWIW Mario Party is the best multiplayer game ever and Kart is a close second...you guys amaze me with your gaming knowledge. imagine what you could accomplish if you gave schoolwork the same commitment.

I've been playing online games since '96 and I must say, out of all of them, I'd go with Quake. The graphics suck now, nobody plays it, and all that, but the level design on that bad bitch for Capture the Flag was the absolute best. No game has beat it IMO. Maybe it's because it was one of the first online games I played, but I still miss it.

Once a game utilizes the grappling hook like Quake did, and have the same sort of environment, I'd be hooked again.

COD2 is great, 1 shot kills - move slowly realism. Play quake if you wanna run n gun.
