For Jorge Julio and a prospect

AWFUL

Right-hander Kris Benson (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6167) was traded by the New York Mets (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=nym) to the Baltimore Orioles (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=bal) in exchange for relief pitcher Jorge Julio and a prospect, MLB.com reported Saturday.

Benson was such a subject of past trade rumors that his wife, model Anna Benson, became critical of the Mets and one of the team's offseason acquisitions, Carlos Delgado.

Anna Benson sounded off on the Mets for attempting to trade the right-hander in part because of her negotiations to pose nude for Playboy, according to a report on the New York Daily News' Web site in December.

"We would never, ever have signed with New York if they had said they were going to trade us," Anna Benson told the paper at the time. "I was Miss [Politically Correct] for the Mets the entire time I was there

"I have no deal with Playboy," she added.

Before the 2005 season began, the Mets signed Kris Benson to a three-year, $22.5 million deal after acquiring him from the Pirates in July 2004.

Last season, Benson was 10-8 with a 4.13 earned-run average in 174 1/3 innings pitched. Julio made 67 appearances for Baltimore, with a 5.90 ERA in 71 2/3 innings.

I really do not understand what minaya is doing. This is bad. We did something similar in the 90's, got a bunch of "Good" relievers and they bombed. Jorge Julio has been on a downward spiral since his career began. He had a decent 2002, but after that his ERA has steadily increased year after year. No no no, very good. They just dumped salerie. It means he is bringing in another player. Barry Zito? Liked Benson. His wife was hot too, but like all hot bitches, she was a cunt.

Don't be surprised if this is a precursor for a Barry Zito trade.

I know, that bitch is fucking psycho. Us, us, us... Bitch, you would be swinging on a pole at an "All nude" strip club if not for Mr. Benson.

Anyway, I hope you guys are right about this being a precursor to a trade for Barry Zito. I really like Zito, and having another left-hander in the starting rotation would be great.

I am still hoping for Manny. I do not know why I continue to hope for this trade. I should just let it go and be happy with what we got this off-season offensively. BUT, I feel if the Mets get Manny they are destined for a World Series victory.

Hey, Mister "day-late-dollar-short", read my first post.

does anybody know if its true that a main reason for trading him was that his clam was possing for playboy?

It's a true rumor. I think her mouth is one of the reasons the Mets cut ties with "Them" (Us)

I really think they were just dumping salary. I hope they get something good in return.

Hey, Mr. Smart ass who looked to only be taking a guess instead of making a certain fucking statement, I'm just sayin'.

If Diaz is traded for a prospect to the A's liking, then I'd say Heilman, prospect(s) for Zito will occur.

From ESPN: "The 31-year-old Benson spent parts of five seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates before being traded to New York in July 2004. He missed the entire 2001 season after elbow ligament replacement surgery on his right elbow.

For his career, he is 57-61 with a 4.25 ERA in 165 starts."

Enough said....never should have paid him $7 Mil a year to begin with!!

FYI, the prospect acquired (Maine) was sought by the A's in the past. Add this to the trade rumblings for Zito, and one has to believe this is Omar's ultimate goal.

PS: As a Tigers fan looking in, I agree this may look like a bad deal to begin with. However, if even if the Mets keep Julio & Maine, this may not be terrible. I still believe Julio could be a good set-up guy with the help of a good pitching coach (and yes, I believe Rick Peterson could do it). Also, Maine is currently projected to be a number four or five starter, with a number three starter's slot being his ceiling probably. And from everything I've read, he very well could step into the fifth starter's spot for the Mets this season if Heilman doesn't impress in Spring Training and he does. Considering Heilman's record the second time through the batting order, that's a good thing.

Only time will tell...

"We were able to get a power arm on the back end of the bullpen and we were able to get a young player, Maine, who had pretty good numbers in the minor leagues," Minaya said. "It gives us some depth. Now Aaron Heilman (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=7065) can get an opportunity to start."

So, I guess they are going to let Heilman start.... This puts a damper on the whole Zito scenario. I hope he is just blowing smoke.

May be smoke, may not. Have you ever heard a GM come out and say: "This trade was BS, pure salerie dump type thing. We could not care less who we got in return as long as we got rid of so and so."?

Exactly - and if he said we just got these guys to trade them again they would lose all their perceived value

I'm glad the Mets traded Benson. It was a good move to dump salary. He wasn't going to help them anyway.

this trade gets the official Gally Doolly seal of approval. (PS, NH, I could use an img for this. You are my photoshop GOD!)

besides, look at it this way. it was a two for two deal. The Bensons for the guys from Baltimore.

Moor Gooder I say. More Gooder.

If it wasnt for the overpaying of this asshole, the yanks would have not only kept Lieber but they wouldnt have given Jaret fucking Wright 3 years at 7 million.

.

Not exactly, if you're like me and count Anna's luscious boobies as two players.

Heilman was being all grumpy about going to the pen, and Anna Benson was an annoying attention whore that was going to keep embarrassing the team, and Benson was white, a definite no-no on Omar's 'New Mets.' So if nothing else this saves them some headaches. I've heard Jeff Weaver's name come up as a possibility. If they give him a contract as big or bigger than Benson's, this is a disaster of a move. If this is a precourser to Man-Ram or Zito, thumbs up. If nothing else happens, this is the Mets' who cares move of the offseason.

I believe the hole sports reporter on Channel 7 in NYC summed up this trade rather brilliantly:

"The Mets have traded Anna Benson and her husband to the Orioles for...."

I liked Benson, but if Julio is a lights out setup guy all is forgiven.

As for Anna, someone here said it best, she'd be nowhere without him. In all the interviews he's a laid back guy, but then again he gets to tap that, so hey I'd probably be like that too. That said, I think he's in another uniform by the end of the 06 season.
