I had to restart this post.
It was not my idea. Someone started this over at TalkRadioFans, but I don't remember who.
If it was your idea, please jump in and take credit. It was a great idea.
My first entery might not be so great taken out of context.
I was listening to an old clip from the WJFK days, and the buddays were on the phone with this stoner who just kept going on and on.
Ron, eventually, throws in "the next time you're listening to Suicidal Tendencies, get some."
Had me rolling.
I would urge you to go find the clip.
Hilarious.

Sometimes there's little things that are great. The fact that they ended the show the other day after the caller got Earl to say "your mom's box" without saying a word. They just played the music. Also, way back Don Geronimo said if they had any balls they would open the show with some song I've forgotten which. They opened the show and never acknowleged why the new song. Geronimo thought that was very cool. Funny by being silent. Less is more sometimes.

Paulie: No. I take the train.

What makes Ron so great is that his voice is on some sort of line between apathy and genius. In a way, how sometimes when you watch a movie or TV show you can see the gears turning in the character's head. For Ron, there's just a little thing in his voice that lets you know he is observing everything and so much more.
I don't mean to make this sound like such a superass kiss thread but I really think Mr. Bennington might be the most brilliant, funniest broadcaster I've ever heard. And he also has one of the quickest, most subtle, wits I've ever heard.

That's a strange way to phrase it but it's completely on point!!
Ron can go from complete passion to complete disinterest in the same breathe and have you completely feel both.
I can't even think of lines that I would say are the best, sometimes it's just a sigh or a laugh, or the way he says something that will just have me burst outloud.
Like I said it's the feeling he'll put to something..... one day he was talking about the middle age woman walking down the street in Manhattan smoking a joint, and Ron just said a quick goofy thing like "I said to her.... LIVE LIFE HUNNIE!".... and just the way he said it, for that second it's like he's the fucking voice of the people!~LOL Not a joke but it made me laugh out loud.
I 100% agree, he is the most brilliant man on radio and I even like the fact that allot of people don't get it..... it's kind of like keeping that favorite fishing hole to yourself and not having to share it with EVERY idiot in town :icon_lol:

ron is by far, my favorite radio personality
i really enjoy his take on the fine line between science & god, etc
their rants about "serious" stuff are always insightful. they usually come across good debate-worthy questions that are really thought provoking. its forced me to ask myself questions and develop new beliefs.
and his ability to be a complete ass and jump back & forth between both sides of the fence is great!
and half the time, i never know when he says: "i used to know a guy" or "this one time" i never know if its truth or a fake story (mostly fake i'm sure), but his ability to spin a story out of thin air and make it extremley believable & real, is amazing!

Ron: Earl, would you run your tongue across that to get a balck man into the white house, get Bush out.
Earl:(gagging)Four more years.
Ron: See that's why you people never win.
I like him for the same reason I like O&A, very different, but yet extremely good at what they do. To have to do the show by himself basically while attempting to have earl and his co-host puke simulataneously is very good. But taking into account the fact that most humans will puke as soon as they either hear/see/smell someone else puking, and continuing the show while berating Earl - Genius. I don't know why people bash this show on this website. Maybe he needs to dumb it down a bit so others get their show.

That I disagree with, Fez helps set him up and helps him to be the genius he is in my opinion. It's a balance thing, a comedy straight man is nothing without that wacky/goofy balance to play down.

Ron is one quick-quipping, funny-ass bastard. I would tell them the show is great, but Ron was probably just saying that same thing to Fez moments earlier.
I must admit I'm a little surprised at Ron's viewpoint on author James Frey's book scandal. I haven't read the book, but I did like the "A.A. ain't the only way" message. However, I can't stand a lying sack of shit like Frey who builds himself up to be a badass. Ron keeps downplaying Frey's bullshit by comparing him to stand-up comics and humor writers. To me, there's a huge difference between the autobiographical stories of a humorist and those of someone who is supposed to be giving a firsthand account of actual events. It's much like the higher standard we hold for news reporters. Brian Regan can tweak the truth all he wants, and I'm still laughing. Peter Jennings, on the other hand, better report the facts or die!
*ahem* Good luck, bro.

"I'll let you in on a secret. Cartoon dogs are drawn by people"

"When we see how many old people die, we'll really feel bad about how we're living in this country"

"Your spirituality should adapt to the facts. The facts should not adapt to your spirituality."
That is the most brilliant thing I've read all week.
That whole first hour of the show they were talking about Fezzy perhaps tripping was insanely funny. Whenever he talks about drug stuff he has super insightful points that simultaneously make me want to start taking drugs again and glad I stopped. He has a truly remarkable intellect and wit.
Also, its hard to drescribe given my lacking intellect, but the thing he does with Fez where he breaks down the words in a sentence by syllable and says what they stand for and he comes to this insane conclusion. It's like he's dissecting poetry or something.
e.g. "Do-re-mi, Fez. Do, what do we work for? Money...Dough. Re, who did you blow last night? Ray-Ray the repair man. Mi. Who did you call afterward? Me. And Fez gives that tentative "Ohhhhhh." So you blew Ray for money and called me afterward. And your breath stunk...
I know I hardly do it justice, and wish I could cite an actual example, but every time he breaks into this it's like fucking jazz. He really is one of the most brilliant personalities in entertainment, not just radio.

Listening this week to the hypnotism show is where Ron really blew me away!!
To keep all that nonsense in check and still deliver is incredible, and as always it was his most subtle line of the day that made me spit my coffee out...... When they were all being Earl's family, which was hysterical in it's own right, everyone's going on in different directions and Ron's holding them all together and while one is talking someone else comes out with "I once wrestled a crocodile" and without skipping a beat Ron goes "I know you did" in a very reassuring tone and then bang right back into the rest of the chaos in the room. LOL
Again Brilliant!!
I LOVE O&A, and other comedians and whatnot, but Ron is the only person who makes me out loud belly laugh several times a day EVERY day!!!
And Bollards..... I hear ya on the drug thing. I dropped allot of acid and did allot of coke back in my younger days and listening to him go on about drugs sometimes will actually kick up old chemicals in my bloodstream and make me buzzed!!~LOL
Well, maybe it's the weed I was smoking, but you know what I mean!

Ron is hands down the funniest person I have ever heard. My favorite bit was when he was talking to Master Po about the "self defense" he practiced when he was younger setting the kid on fire.Hilarious

Ron's perfect imagery of "A girl walking through middle school dropping her books" when discussing ESD's faggot song.
This is not verbatum
Ron: I haven't seen Ring of fire
Fez: It's walking the line not Ring of Fire
Ron: You're thinking of Joaquin Phoenix. It's Joaquin Phoenix not Joaquin the line

Rule number 1: There are no rules
Rule number 2: No kicking I don't go for the kicking
Rule number 3: You don't fight untill a half hour after lunch. I don't like the kids eating a full meal and going out there fighting

Getting that guy who called in to talk about how underage girls look older than their age, to eventually fess up to essentially being a kid toucher and telling him that if he keeps that up, he's going to prison, is compelling fucking radio.
Not only that, but he got the guy to voluntarily give his first name, age, town he lived in, the fact that he lives with his parents and what kind of work he does, out of him before he put him on hold. Any detective worth his badge could find this guy if he really was trying to fuck 14 year olds.

I love when Ron and Fez suddenly have lightning fast exchanges that seem to pop out of nowhere. Like when Ron suddenly makes a joke about Fezzy being touched as a child....
Fez: But everyones been touched as a kid...
Ron: Nope you're the only one.
Fez: Aww, thats all I had to keep me normal all these years.
Ron: Personally I thought you were asking for it.
and then right back to the topic at hand!

not the actual quote, but the punchline is right:
I used to steal albums as a kid. Id just shove records down my pants and walk out and the security guy would come up to me and be like "hey is that a record in your pants?" and I would say "big... but record, I dont think so." But seriously
Might not be an original, but I laughed my ass off.

I love R&F, being in Philly never got to hear much of them before XM (with the exception of the old A.F.R.O. shows and a few downloads) but they are hysterical. Ron is so sharp so dry & so quick it's hilarious. Ron had me the first week he was talking about one of the interns or something breaking up with his g/f Ron said he doesn't want a nice normal girl..he wants the kinda chick who's a little crazy, the kind that u might wake up to her lighting your matress on fire....i was rolling.....R&F had me after that...Miss Nature Boy Fez

I believe that was Paulie the intern, and that was when I first knew this man was a genius.
Ron: So what are you're plans now????
Paulie: I don't know. I just want to go out and meet people.

I'm listening to some WJFK-era Ron and Fez this morning, and figured I'd bring this thread back just to confuse people who don't know the differene between "The Genius of Mr. Ron Bennington" and "Ron Bennington's Line Of The Day."
(talking about The Outsiders over Stevie Wonder's Stay Gold)
Ron: This reminds me of my own childhood Fez. Growing up in Oklahoma, I wasn't on the socs' side of town, I was with the greasers.
Fez: You didn't grow up in Oklahoma, you're from Philly.
Ron: Me, Tom Cruise, Matt Dillon was part of that whole crew. That Karate Kid kid, he passed away.
Fez: Johnny!
Ron: And Sodapop Curtis...maybe the best of us all. Little Sodapop.
Fez: You didn't grow up with Ponyboy and Two-Bit.
Ron: And the guy from "Ghost" was like our big brother, and he could have been a socs if it wasn't for us.
Ron: If this movie was on tonight, I'd be crying like a chick. I'd be crying like I miscarried.
(Ron loudly cries)
Ron: That was me in the theater. Shhhh...JOHNNY! Even as when the credits were coming up I just kept yelling STAY GOLD SODAPOP CURTIS! CHERRY VALANCE LOVES YOU!

Man. I finally listened to the show from 5-22. WOW. I don't think I've laughed to the point where I couldn't breath and couldn't see(because my eyes were watering so bad), since the O&A "knock, knock. who's there?? olive" bit.
Bennington brought his A-fucking-plus game that day. When talking about Fez wanting to fight the guy that wants to take Fez' spot on the show: "I'll fucking knock the cock out of your mouth, motherfucker." Typing it doesn't do it credit, because you have to have the gay voice going.
I urge anyone who has the means to record that show and save it. One of the funniest things I've heard on radio. Thank God for satellite.
I didn't put this in the "line of the day thread" because there is no way I could pick one line and say it was the best that day.
And because I don't want my thread to die.
