My dad has been a pharmaceutical rep for over a decade. I've never needed to purchase a pen in my entire life. He's also a deputy coroner...which means he's a drug peddler by day and a body snatcher by night.

In reality, the cost of that crap isn't that expensive. It's all the research & development costs that they need to recoup for both the successful and the failed drugs.

Plus, some countries tell the US companies what they'll pay for a drug, and the US companies accept it to get market share. So we US citizens have to absorb more of the cost.

I had been discussing this on another board, but the person never answered my question why we'd want to gain market share at a loss, and if the company did profit, when would that be. If anyone here knows, please enlighten me.

an easier way to get free drug pens is to sleep with nurses. the reps are constantly dropping ass-loads of pens and mousepads and coffee mugs and doo-dads off to the doctors offices and the nurses always end up with the pens ( the doc's take all the good swag ). so sex with nurses not only may save your life some day if you begin choking, but you can get freebie pens too

A Prof of mine who worked R&D for a drug company said the opposite. That R&D maybe got 10% funding and the rest went to marketing such as TV, Mags, Reps etc.
