Paltalk Questions Need Answers [merged]

While listening to the show today I decided to download Paltalk. I have a few questions for any experienced user who might be able to help me:

1) Do you need to subscribe to the Plus or Extreme Service in order to gain access to the O&A / Wackbag / Pest rooms?

2) The rooms don't appear in the search results window. I've tried "Pest", "O & A", "Wackbag", and "Opie Anthony" and got nothing back.

3) Do you need a Web cam to view video, or only to show video?

4) What are the names of the more popular O&A fan rooms?

They are free to join, but you have to pay for video. It sounds like you didn't set the search to include adult content.

I always just type in "opie" and all the rooms come up. Typing in more will limit the search.

Also, when you do the search, click on either the adult playground or adult conversation section first and then ok the disclaimer before hitting search.

1. No, you don't need to upgrade to have access to the rooms. You will have to upgrade to get streaming video. I think the basic has a slower refresh rate, but I could be wrong.

2. Do what Silera does and search "opie" and your problem should be solved. And yes, make sure you allow adult content.

3. You do not need a web cam to view video, only to send it. I upgraded and viewed video before I had a cam.

4. If you search "opie" you'll see the rooms. There will also be "members in room" count next to the name, so you can see what's "popular" at the moment. What's more popular isn't always more gooder, IMO. You might thouroughly enjoy a room that I have no interest in. Visit them all, and decide from there.

And don't forget to put your paltalk sn in your wackbag profile. :)

That seemed to work. I got in two rooms using that method in the search. However, I got the boot almost immediately as I was identifying myself. So is that how it is normally? If so forget it...

What about the studio cam? What is the name of that chat room?

Howmany rooms are there normally set up durrign the live shows?

I have no idea how many other rooms there are. I'm usually working during show time.

Read the other thread about the paltalk rooms. A couple admins of other rooms have identified themselves. Get their paltalk sn's (very easy if they've updated their wackbag profile), and IM them if you can't get into a room, or if you get kicked out.

Ugh! Seems like a _lot_ of work! I don't know if its worth it. I

am very intrested in the studio cam, and hearing discussion that takes place during breaks, but I have very little interest in "hanging out" in a video chat room with other fans when the show isn't on live. Wackbag fills that void quite well already.

I already give High Voltage +8 hours a day 5 days a week, and I definately don't feel like having the door to a chat room slammed in my face simply for showing up.

I'm basically a nobody here on the board...and I've already experienced what can happen if you cross paths with a "higher-up" who's having a bad day and needs to boost their ego.

I can only imagine its worse in a chatroom situation.

Who are the admins on the studio cam room? And, do they tend to ban people at will if they are unknown or not recognized as "super fans" by their username?

Any insight would be appreciated...

Anthony is the head admin in the live room. His GF as well as some others are also @'s.

You typically will only be bounced if you are harrassing Anthony, the women in the room, or other members of the room. Also if your name is blatently arab, those are pretty much the reasons why you'd get bounced.

What about the free trial? I would like to see what paltalk is like for a week for free. you can check out the video without paying for anything. The difference is that the video windows only stay open for a short time (10 seconds, I think), then prompt you to upgrade. There are two levels to upgrade to, $40 and $60. The $60 will let you view unlimited rooms simulaneously, while the $40 allows something like 6 at a time. It's a pretty good service, and worth the upgrade I think. I checked out the free version for a few days to see if I liked it, then paid the $60.

I had the same problem I could not click on anything,it seeems to be a java script problem.
Even in IE the page would not load correctly.
Try reinstalling firefox.It worked for me.

No, I've tried on multiple computers and still no luck. Also paltalk never got back to me about it. When my current sub runs out I'm going to try and send myself a gift sub.

It's a java thing. I use Firefox and had to let java run.

i understand that the pal talk is an actual server that you have to pay to use like Aol, but what else do i need? Just a camera, and where can i pick one up? bestbuy? What are they called

I'm having the same problem with attempting to upgrade Paltalk. It's happening whether I go there using Firefox or Internet Explorer. When I test Java through their website, they tell me that I have the current version and it's working properly.

I'm not sure what to try next.

you can use it for free but the videos are only for 10 seconds and you have to wait 5 to 10 minutes to see it again. You can get a web cam any where. Go to shopzilla.com and search web cam and it will have results.

You do not *need* a camera to view video, only if you want to be on cam. Like chiefo said, the free version is very limited when it comes to viewing cams.

joshjrounder, Sometimes the rooms get filled to compacity and noone can get in until the room loses some people. I would suggest you add wb member's Paltalk names to your buddy list so you can ask them where to go. I would suggest you add people who have more than 1K posts to your buddy list first.

The wow logo is a swf (flash) file someone created. I don't have the original but I have created several "Wow" and "O&A" logos you can use.

they Studio cam is usually only on from 7-11 am Eastern - once you are on Paltalk search for "opie" - don't forget to enable "adult" so you can find the room.

To be honest it could be a couple things.....

You might indeed have a crappy computer...
You might have a lousy internet connection.....
It may also be just the video card but chances are it is the system resources in general.

Try Paltalk with no other programs running - if that fails stop in the HELP room on Paltalk and the folks there can probably answer your questions better.

I have a question:

I have a cam and a paltalk subscription. My camera works fine, everything is good.

I created my own custom overlay, and it works, but my problem is that I want it to rest along the bottom. Instead, it rests a little bit above the bottom, so instead of a footer bar across the bottom, it shows a little video underneath it, which kinda defeats the purpose.

I made the overlay by greating a GIF with a transparent background, saved it as a .swf file.

OK since last Saturday I haven't been able to log onto paltalk. I've been able to log on maybe 3 times at most on my computer. Wireless laptops connect with no problem, but not my PC. I haven't changed anything on my computer. I'm thinking something happened with the school internet since it went to shit last week, but I called and they claim nothing was done. Is there anything that I could possibly be overlooking on my computer? I've checked for viruses, spyware, etc. and got nothing. I'm also not running a firewall.

I think you may have already fixed it (saw your cam online some time this weekend and did't notice a gap) but in case you haven't...

Make sure the size of the swf file is a ratio or 160x120 (320x240, etc) - that is the size of the videos - so if you set it up that size and make sure the image is on the bottom there should be no gap. Another option would be to put a black bar across the bottom of the swf image that is hangs off the bottom edge.

Being as it is random it is hard to say. I am not up to date on the ports that you need to have open - but here is a info page from Paltalk's site....

Chances are the folks at your school could give a rats ass if you are having problems with Paltalk so they don't even want to bother with it.

Paltalk takes over your wav out audio levels. Once you shut it down though, everything goes back to normal.

Yes, you can access the Live room or whatever room you want and run your camera and mic but you will only be able to watch the cams in studio for about 10 seconds each.
