Question... I tried listening to today's show just now on my MiFi (Tao, actually) and when it got to the first segment recorded this morning... it shut off. Anyone know what might be messed with it?

I tried scrolling through the list of segments, but when it got down to that same segment, it crapped out again. Even just by trying to scroll past it! (It just freezes for a few seconds, then turns off.)

Wonder if XM can send out a "kill" signal on something recorded... lol

Sometimes if signal interferance is strong enough, my MyFi will stop recording altogether. I've had that happen before when I used my microwave, and it jammed the signal. So much so that it made my unit stop recording.

But also enough to make it shut down?

If it didn't record, it would just skip to the next recorded segment... but in this case, the actual unit shuts down.

In my case, it made the unit shut down completely while in record mode, not during playback.

I've had this happen a few times with my Myfi. It wasn't a matter of shutting down when recording, it was a matter of doing something wrong while recording that would cause the Myfi to shut down when it tried to read past that point.

The only thing that has ever worked for me has been to reset the unit. On the Myfi, to reset, you open the battery cover and stick a paper clip (or something similar) into a small hole at the top left of the battery. I assume that the reset button will be somewhere similar on the Tao.

The problem with this solution is that you will lose everything that has been previously recorded.

Could be that whatever the format the show is recorded in (Mp3?)...was corrupted. IF you get a glitch in the data, the recording, sometimes the unit can't get by it (like a speed bump in the linear data) and all it can do i freeze and shut down. This happens with mp3 players...Just a thought

In order to record a programmed event (like OnA) I have to shut my Tao off completely. So, if the recording was interupted for any reason, it's going to to stay turned off. I've had the same problem and figured the same explanation that an interupted signal triggered it to stop recording. Makes sense, I guess, although it'd be nice to just keep recording because it'll get the signal back again.

And further. I have the antenna placed some distance (at least 30') from any window and it's only done this (stopped recording) once in six months. I figure that it'd never happen if the antenna was placed near the window.

How am I not suprised that XM produces complete shit?

How am I not surprised that you're trolling? I know you're an O&A fan, I've seen you defend the boys on that other site, but come on, even with the minor glitches, XM hardware makes anything sirius produces look like complete shit. You have to admit, the MyFi (Tao) is much better than the S50.

The only thing "wrong" with my TAO since I got it is that the manual says it records 5 hours, but it actually holds about 9 hours ;-)

And? Is that all you got? NOTHING infuriates me more than an unimaginative fuckface. If you're going to waste my time, at least try to get a laugh.

You suck balls.

How do you get it to record 9 hours? Whenever I accidently try to set if for more than 5 hours it beeps and says 5 hours already scheduled. I'd love to be able to get 9 hours on it. That would be great for work. I wouldn't have to repeat stuff that way.

I don't think that he means that he sets it to record 9 hours. I think that he means that if he sets it to record O&A every day, it will record 2 full 4 hour shows plus one hour of the 3rd show before it starts recording over the programming from day 1.

This may be a dumb question and I really don't feel like going through FAQs on stuff, but do the XM2gos record if they're not docked. Like if you're walking/driving around can you listen and record at the same time?

yes... but you can not schedule a session... you have to manually hit the record button...

Beats the hell out of the S50 piece of plastic junk that Sirius calls a "portable" P.O.S.

The MyFi can record for a total of 10 hours although it's not meant too, it will due to a bug:

Set session 2 to up to 5 hours. Now go back and set that session to off without changing the times.

Set session 1 to up to 5 hours and leave this session on. Both my MyFis will record both sessions now everyday, it's how I record O&A and Ron & Fez dailey!

Bear in mind, that's for lower bandwidth talk content. I don't think it could handle 10 hours of music. But I could be wrong, I haven't tried it for music.

I'll have to try that out. THanks for the info everyone.
