I practically live at my job I'm there so much...have called out only twice since last year....the second time being last thursday. I got up to go to work and my cat was acting weird. just laying there. I drove halfway to work then turned around and checked on my cat. I called in to my boss and her response was "I had you covering a classroom today." I apologized and told her I would call back and let her know if I was able to come in later after I had taken Humphrey (my 13 year old cat) to the vet.
Well I took him into the vet that morning. Wasnt' good news. They did a lot of testing etc....and I found out Humph had cysts in his kidneys....about 20 of em. Some had ruptured and he was hemmoraging. Was tough but made the decision to put him down. While all this was going on ...The cunt calls me no less than 3 times asking where I was and when I was coming in. on the last call I told her I wasn't.
On Friday I went to work, was still upset about the $600 vet bill and my best furry friend dying. She expressed condolences and nothing else was said.

This morning the fucking twat calls me into her office and writes me up for "making a bad personal choice" in deciding to bring my cat to the vet vs coming to work. I listened to her ...signed the warning after adding in that under the same circumstances I would do it again.

What a fucking bitch! She obviously either hates animals or doesn't have a pet herself. I personally hate cats but it is still someone's pet and buddy. If my dog was sick, I would have made the same exact decision. Sorry about your loss. You did the right thing.

In a dream world here is what you do...You go to the local newspaper and tell them this story. Maybe in the op/ed or what not as human interest...at least make sure all of your coworkers know what she has done, and they can treat her like crap.
NEVER include her on anything...bring in cupcakes or whatever for all the other teachers. Get a pic of your poor kitty and put it on your desk, and every time she comes in the room turn it face down and mumble that kitty doesn't like mean people :)
Are you in the teachers union? You are given personal/sick days for a reason, and i am quite sure that a dead pet is a good reason.

No someone tried to drown her in one of the small creeks by my dr's office, well we found her crying on a small rock right by the water, and was soaked... Indoor cats can live even longer if they have a good diet and remain indoors.. She really was like a family member..

How large is your company? I'm assuming that it's relatively large because a really small company wouldn't have that whole "write me up" process. If I were in your shoes, I would ask for a copy of the warning and take it directly to Human Resources. What your boss did is inexcusable.

Just so you know where I'm coming from, I'm probably in a position more similar to that of your boss than I am to your position. I'm also not much of a cat person (I'm allergic), so I wouldn't have any personal empathy that others have shown here. However, I can't imagine ever telling someone that they should come to work while they are in the process of trying to save the life of their pet.

Your boss shouldn't be in a position where she is managing other people. Human Resources should be given a copy of this warning so they know that they have a problem with someone in a supervisory position.

Go to either her boss or your HR director. Complain about the manor she dealt with the issue and how offended you are. Play it up and be a pussy. If you work for a large company or it sounds like a school district you can probably get her sent to sensitivity training.
