Found this in my local paper today:
A West Yellowstone man accused of molesting a 16-year-old girl over a six-year span was charged with sexual assault in Gallatin County Justice Court Monday.
Maurice Ronald Archer, 64, is accused of fondling and performing oral sex on the girl since she was 10, according to court records.
He told her "it was okay," "it was love," and it was not wrong or illegal. He molested the girl every few months in his bed.
Archer, appearing in court on video in an orange jumpsuit, remains in Gallatin County's jail on $400,000 bail.
The girl told a Gallatin County sheriff's detective in December about the first time Archer molested her when she was 10. He had placed his hands on her body and attempted to take her clothes off.
As she became older, he climbed in her bed, held her down and fondled her. He was often close to having sex with her. He also molested her more often as she grew older.
The girl screamed and asked him to stop when he touched her. She told him it hurt.
Archer told the girl he was "teaching her to be a woman." He also told her he wanted to take her virginity.
In court Monday, Deputy County Attorney John Worsfold told the court it was hard to imagine a more heinous crime in the state of Montana.
"We feel there is a considerable risk" to letting him out of jail, he said.
But Archer's attorney, Deputy Public Defender Colleen Herrington, asked for a more reasonable bail.
"Any amount of bail is going to be too much for him to post," she told the court.
Judge Scott Wyckman, after reading the court documents detailing the accusations against Archer, set bail at $400,000. If Archer posts bail, he can't go near the girl or her home.
He faces up to life in prison for the charge of sexual assault.
He will enter a plea to the charge in District Court at a future date.
