This could get interesting. I heard about it on the 12 o'clock news
today. I want to see where this all leads.

Too funny...I wonder if it will turn out to be superbowl squares :)
Aren't there pedophiles trying to pick up teens we could be arresting instead? (No offense, you know who you are ;) )
I wonder why it is so bad that there was an orgaized crime involvement...isn't pretty much all crime organized? You don't hear about disorgaized crime...A guy robbing a liquor store in a child's swimmies and fleeing on a bouncy ball?

Mark Recchi is one of them, from some rumors I have heard.
Also, this is interesting:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2322234
Lt. Col. Frank Rodgers, deputy superintendent of investigations with the New Jersey State Police, confirmed to TSN of Canada that "12 NHL players or people closely associated with NHL clubs" -- including a team owner and a member of one coaching staff -- placed bets with the ring. He would not say if any of the bettors with ties to the NHL bet on hockey
Gretzky, maybe?? His wife and good friend are implicated, he's an owner... do the math. This could get REAL ugly.

I can't believe this is a big deal. They weren't even betting on hockey from what I heard on the news. This is such non news.

If they werent betting on hokey then they are just gonna tarnish these NHL players names for doing what everyone does, bets on sports.

That article says its not clear whether they bet on hockey or not. And if their placing bets with ANY kind of consistency the first time they get into a decent hole they're gonna bet on what they know best, hockey, to bail them out of it.
I still say as long as you dont bet against your own team and/or throw games it shouldnt be such a big deal. I'm not big on hockey, but has this been an ongoing problem in the game? A La Shoeless Joe Jackson and Pete Rose?

So far a couple of the names I've heard implicated are Jeremy Roenick and Gretzky's wife Janet Jones

WOW.... Just WOW.
I stopped for dinner tonight at a pizza joint and they had the news on. I saw Tocchet's pic and name on screen but the sound was off, so I didn't know what the deal was. I just got the story now.

I never understood what the big deal is if you're not betting on your own sport. But this is going to be bad for the NHL if true, and if Gretz or his wife are involved, it will tarnish his image, and it could have implications towards future Team Canada decisions involving him.

An illegal gambling ring for any sport involving a coach and owner's wife, who happens to be the greatest player of all time, is a big deal.

Honestly....... Who give a Shit!!!
He didn't bet on Hockey, nobody in their right mind bets on Hockey. Everybody Bet's on FootBall and Basketball (March Madness ) I don't see what the big deal is about. Even the Judge that tries this case probably gambles on football or something.

No need for the smiley face, your darn right Lemieux is the best, but back on track. I really hope Gretzky somehow is involved, i really would like the see the "The Great One" finally get some negative shit smeared on him. (I am still pissed at the way he got babied while he was an active player)

I'm from Edmonton and I remember watching him when he was here during his best years. Sure he was babied and he had Semenko, Messier and McSorley to protect him, but he still won 4 cups here and shattered most records on the way. Lemieux was great as well, but he was a baby, and sure he had cancer and came back(which I marvel at, but then again Saku Koivu did the same), and had back problems(wait so did Gretz thanks to Suter), but he still didn't accomplish what Gretzky did in the NHL or in International play. Both were great players, but Gretzky is still the best to every play.

Its not just betting on sports. Tocchet is accused of funding an "ILLEGAL GAMBLING" ring which involved a NJ state policemen and possibly the south jersey/philadelphia mob. Yes the players who made bets through them will get a bad name and as long as they didn't bet on hockey its really a non story. The BIG DEAL is in Tocchet who could face 10-20 years for Money Laundering. And they haven't ruled out betting on their own sport or even fixing games.
