how strong are the personal antennas? i need something that will get me good home reception for recording shows.
Since you can't get reception without the antenna, it sounds like there are no repeaters near your house. Do you have an window with a southern exposure where you intend to use the Myfi? If so, Buster Hyman's link should work for you. However, if you don't, just getting an antenna might not help you.
You might also need a personal repeater, like this. (http://www.myradiostore.us/antennas-cables/for-cables-miscellaneous/sa10116-xm-signal-repeater.html) With this, you put the antenna in a window with a southern exposure and plug it into the transmitter. Then you plug your Myfi into the receiver.

you have to aim the antenna, my home antenna is mounted out side my house with streight shot at the southern sky, the myfi also has an antenna tuner built in just have some one watch it while your out side tweeking the antenna. i put my antenna in a zip lock freezer bag and sealed it up to protect it from the weather. i have an older unit with the old style "tampon" antenna that sucks so i bought all new car ones and home ones from http://www.myradiostore.us/antennas-cables/for-myfi-xm2go/ the service was great and quick

I use a car ant in my house since it isn't uni-directional.
The signal is fine. If you need better reception walking around
you might want one of these: CLICKY (http://www.myradiostore.us/headphones-speakers/myfi-headset-antenna-sa10161.html)
There are lots of options to get good reception. Just ask the
folks at XM411 (http://xm411.com/).

Yes. But the antenna will probably need to be near a window. Try walking near all the windows in your house with your Myfi to see where the reception is the strongest. If you look at page 28 in the owner's manual, you can see how to use the "Antenna Aiming" function. From the main menu, select "Antenna Aiming". There are two bar graphs. One for "Satellite", one for "Terrestrial". If you're getting a signal on "Terrestrial" that means that there is a repeater nearby your home and you may not need to put the antenna in window. You should only get a signal on "Satellite" when you are near a window with a southern view.
