I think Tirico is a great call but I don't know about Kornheiser

Monday Night Football will have a new broadcast team when it debuts on ESPN in 2006.

Mike Tirico, Joe Theismann and Tony Kornheiser will be part of a three-man booth calling the games on Monday nights next season and Suzy Kolber and Michelle Tafoya will be sideline reporters. Kolber and Tafoya both reported from the sidelines for ABC during Super Bowl XL.
"I'm just thrilled to be the next person to take the greatest franchise in television sports history forward," Tirico said on ESPN Radio Wednesday morning.

Also, ESPN announced that Mike Breen will be its new lead NBA play-by-play announcer, teaming with analyst Hubie Brown for ABC telecasts beginning Feb. 12 and including the NBA Finals.

"This Monday Night Football team enthusiastically embraces our vision for sports television's signature series. We will propel MNF into a 21st century, all-day, exclusive, multi-media event that will engage fans in entirely new ways. This team will develop great chemistry," ESPN Executive Vice President John Skipper said.

"Mike Breen is widely respected for his depth of NBA knowledge and his consummate play-by-play skill. We are very excited to provide such a spectacular forum as the NBA Finals to showcase his talents."

In addition, Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon will take Pardon The Interruption on the road on Mondays during the football season. The shows will air from the site of ESPN's Monday Night Football games.

"We look to the future with great enthusiasm and a strong commitment to enhance the presentation of the NFL and the NBA, two of our most important sports properties," ESPN and ABC Sports President George Bodenheimer said.

Al Michaels, the play-by-play voice of Monday Night Football on ABC from 1986 through Sunday's Super Bowl in Detroit, will not return to either broadcast.

You don't know about Kornheiser? I don't really like Kornheiser but out of those 3 names, his is not even close to the one that disappoints me the most. How the fuck are they putting Theisman on MNF? He is the fucking WORST. And I have yet to ever hear anyone actually enjoy him. How does he keep popping up on national games?

I guess he's really good at kissing ass or just a really good schmoozer. I do believe Kornheiser will be good. Pardon the Interruption is a great show. What can you say about Tirico? For one, he's the consumate professional. He calls the games as he sees them and you feel like you can actually trust the things he says. And two, he does not let his personal feelings get in the way. I say have Mike Tirico and Al Michaels.

Uh ... former greatest franchise in television sports history. It's just another football game now, and this new lineup proves it.

Hopefully NBC's new Sunday Night Football will actually have some spark to it. We'll see.

I am not sure how I feel about this... I do like Kornheiser but I hate Theismann. I guess we will have to wait until next season.

This is gonna be awlful, god I hate Theisman.

But onto a more serious question what is michaels gonna be doing? He is one of the best announcers, I hope he doesnt retire.

I don't know about that line-up, but I guess you can't keep recycling the same old schleps. I guess giving Tirico a chance is not bad. Kornheiser, eh, but I will give him a chance. If the Giants aren't playing I probably will not watch. So, it's not like I have to deal with them for every game I watch.

I"m real excited about TK. I could care less about Torico. Theisman is a douche and if they were gonna dump anyone it should have been him.

Does this mean that Kornheiser isn't gonna be doing his radio show anymore? I'd hate that. I think his show is by far the best of the ones on XM 152. I really like Kornheiser, but I'd rather him keep his radio show over the MNF gig. And after reading that entire article, it says that they're taking PTI on the road, but isn't Tony afraid to fly anywhere?

Thats why I have my doubts, Tony has not really traveled in quite some time and i think he will infortunately graw weary of it. if anything put michael wilbon in there. he travels well and i do believe he is younger. if al michaels was not in on it, they should have just have kept the sunday night crew(Theisman, with mike patrick and paul macguire) to do it and leave tirico to college football with kirk herbstriet. I guess now patrick and macguire will have tirico's old job of thurs night football. Personally i'm not a tirico fan in a booth because the pitch of a his voice is terrible and almost a put on

of course NBC tried to woo michaels there. notice during the superbowl, there was no reference of him and madden splitting. NBC really could not get any one of major note (like fox's Kenny albert or even CBS's greg Gumbel). I am studying to be a play-by-play man myself, so maybe in 10-15 years ill be calling a superbowl...god willing.

just read about this. Tony is the man, Thiesman is a tool, dunno who Tirico is. Anything is better than the other 2 assholes that Thiesman was with on sunday nights.

lol...I am probably the only human on earth that likes Theisman. I think it will be a good lineup. Does ABC get the Sunday Night game now?

TK says they're getting him a bus. And yes, the radio show will be on hiatus when he's on the road.

He also threw out the idea that he might do a podcast from the road, and he might call myself or another guy so I can record the call and post it on my message board for everyone to hear his road stories... But he might be errr.. is kidding about this.

But you never know.

Theismann is just godawful. Some of the shit that comes out of his mouth is just amazing. What the fuck were they thinking?

This is going to be awful. Theismann is so bad that he drags everyone else down to his level of bad. It doesn't surprise me though. ESPN seems to love keeping guys like Theismann and Stephen A Smith around as a fuck you to everyone.

I agree with you 100%, but that last element is still there... Theismann is another Joe Morgan who babbles on like anyone gives a shit. No one cares about Theismann. I pray for Lawrence Taylor to pop up in the booth and break his other leg.

I think Al Michaels should go to either CBS or Fox because he still does a good call. I would definately put him ahead of Joe Buck.

Hopefully Costas has nothing to do with football on NBC. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I'm shocked Stuart Scott isn't the franchise here. His catchphrases are overused and boring at this point. Did anyone catch sportscenter on a sunday night where he did the "def poetry" approach to delivering highlights? It was embarrassing.
