Actually, I think the Bertuzzi mauling Steve Moore incident and the McSorely taking a golf swing at the head of a golfer were bigger news stories and more damaging than Spano narrowly taking control of a hockey team he never had the money to buy.

However, this illegal betting ring tops it all. More so, since Wayne Gretzky and a number of players may be involved.

This is the last thing that the NHL needs right about now. This is supposed to be a year of resurgence for the sport...yet it's being tarnished by this incident, which likely involves the greatest scorer of all time. And I'm sure we only scratched the surface of this incident.

With any luck...they'll uncover that Alexei Yashin was a mastermind behind this and he'll be forced to spend the next four years in prison...far, far away from the Nassau Coliseum ice and Islander fans calling for his head.
