Just to be an asshole, I'll start the new winter Olympics thread instead of hanging around in the 2002 Olympics thread. So far, opening ceremonies were homoerotic as usual, but I can't wait for the hockey to start. Also, try and watch the womens moguls tomorrow, Jen Heil is the fav to win gold and she's from Spruce Grove which is 5 minutes from me. One hot piece of ass.

sweet, that didn't take us too long. USA has it's first Gold medal already, as of 11:33am of Day 1.
Chad Hedrick won the 5000m in speed skating. He's supposed to win something like 5 golds.

Anyone watching the Canada vs. Italy hocky game? It's a doueche chill. It's six minutes in, the score is now 5-0, and one chick already has a hattrick. The puck has barely gotten out of the Italian side of the ice, and everytime it does, the crowd goes nuts.

One thing that pisses me off about olympic coverage is the fact that the only thing during primetime, it seems, is just figure skating. At 4pm on saturday, i am already sick and tired of Scott Hamilton. That whore michelle kwan, begged, apparently to make it on the US team but now all of a sudden she says she won't skate... Hey bitch, how bout you suck it up give someone else a shot that is healthy and won't bitch out. I'm sure they would have given you a 2 week vacation to Turin at some point...
I'll watch anything else from speed skating to downhill skiing and even curling. In order to watch that stuff tho, you have to hunt it down on one of the other 3 channels broadcasting the games. I don't know why I'm complaing because at least they are showing some other stuff. But rest assured, womens figure skating practice should get plenty exposure in the days to come, like it fucking matters anyway. Hopefully I make it to Wednesday for men's hockey to watch a bunch of all star games...
Which leads me to this question which I hope someone answers. I haven't heard anything about an all star weekend in the NHL; is there going to be one or is the olympic competition making up for it???

Can anyone tell me why I just watched a hockey game that ended 16-0?
Even though there isn't any body checking allowed, I would have had to cross check someone on a team that wasn't letting up one bit. I also love the fact that those girls were celebrating those late goals (basically anything 10 and above) as if they were playing against the US in the gold medal game.

I love curling, it and hockey are great to play with a case of beer up here. Nice win by Canada today over Italy, we need the goals in case of a tiebreaker with the US. Heil won gold in moguls for Canada today, nice piece of ass. So far so good.

Well for one its not a bunch of all-star games. In fact far far from it. Those guys are there to medal which means there will be a lot of intensity a good amount of hitting and all around great hockey. Very unlike a boring all-star shootout.
And no there is never an all-star game during an olympic year in the NHL. Teams are already playing almost every other day that would make the schedule even worse for the NHL season. The only good thing about an all-star game anyway is the skills competition.

The thing about olympic hockey is the 2nd tie breaker is the goal ratio. Now I don't think Canada or the US will have any problems making it into the medal round but if an amazing upset would happen they might need as many goals as they could get. Plus no one cares about the Italian womens ice hockey team. They shouldn't even be there.

I agree. As much as it is nice to see us outscoring the competition after two games by 28-0, we still haven't played a real team. The only two teams that are any good are Canada and the US in womens hockey, and I think it will be Canada with gold again this time around. The US has looked shakey and at times unorganized so far in the tournament, but it all comes down to who shows up to the gold medal game between these two.

Despite the fall, they STILL got the Silver. Why? Because the scoring changed. It's no longer about the "perfection"... it's about the difficulty. You get points for even attempting something.
Not that it matters, cause it's still fucking gay... but it's kind of bullshit when a team falls hard enough to come off the ice... go back out and get the Silver, just because they fell trying some hard jump.

I dont see how everyone can still get so excited for the hockey. I know its still alot more fun to watch bc of the rules and the rink size and I dont argue that but when the put the NHLers in for the 98 games, it just took all the spirit out of it. Yea they are obviously the best but i would much rather see a bunch of college guys who play balls out because its the only chance they are going to get. Im not going to deny that the NHLers dont give it their all but to me its just lacking something.

The US is shit in goal and that right there is what is going to kill them. Miller should've been on the team even though he was hurt earlier. And now the Czechs could be in trouble now that Hasek pulled his nuts again. Vockun is a good goalie, but not as proven as Hasek. And for anyone who says they can't get excited about hockey doesn't know much about the sport. This year is the best hockey we've seen in years, the olympic hockey is amazing come the playoff rounds. I don't know how people can watch baseball for 162 games as well as the playoffs. I like the sport, but I get bored stiff watching it more than about once a month during the regular season.
BuffaloTom

The only chance the U.S. had of winning the Gold in hockey was having Ryan Miller be their goalie. Instead, for some reason, he didn't even make the team and 3 mediocre hack goalies did. Super - 5th place, here we come.

I didn't think the team played that bad. For getting there yesterday because of the snow storm back here. Yes we get it our goaltending isn't great. But this team can score and if some how grahme can stand on his head for a game or two I won't count this team out for a medal. If it wasn't for Irbe US would've won. Funny how Irbe isn't good enough to play in the NHL anymore. There are about 15 teams in the league that have goaltenders that are worse then him. And without goaltending, the US isn't going far. But hockey is a game of momentum, so who knows

It's great if you're wearing it out on the town one night, but as a hockey jersey it sucks. Too tight is my main problem with it, it's bad enough putting a jersey on with your gear on, but with that jersey it's worse than putting my mule in a rubber. I don't know why they changed, Nike I'm sure had a big part in that. I'd go back to what they wore in 02 and in the world cup, but I have no say, none of the fans do. I'm hearing Reebok is making the NHL jerseys far worse than Nike though for the future.

I've been looking at grass for two months and my gf's tulips are starting to come up in the flower beds. Quick question about Women's Luge. Ant has stated that the aero-dynamics of the male unit would only help the speed of the sled....what about the box/Camel toe factor?
Wouldn't, using the same logic, the deeper and puffier cameltoe channel more air and end up in greater speed?
Or would the bigger hole act as a speed break?

No offense taken. Our problem is we have been the best for so long it's hard to admit that there are other teams that are giving us a run for our money. I will say there is no team as arrogant as the US mens team, I like seeing them lose.
The Swiss played good today and got an unreal performance in goal from Gerber. It's hard for the US, Canada, Russia, Sweden and the Czechs to gel as a team in such a short period of time, when teams like the Swiss play together for most of the year. I hope we win, but I'm not so sure we are going to do it again,.

Too be honest, I'm pissed but with the way we've played we deserve to have lost the last two by shutout. I'd rather Canada earn the gold then just fall into it, and it looks like they are going to fuck around and take teams lightly, just so that they get walked all over. It's going to happen again against the Czechs, and it will serve them right for playing like women. Is it just me or has anyone else found the Olympic Hockey boring so far, it's missing the passion and energy that was there in Salt Lake?

It has been somewhat boring. Lots of sloppy play as well. Funny thing about the U.S. team is that they were supposed to be weak at goal, and have scoring power. It has been the complete opposite. As far as Canada. Yesterday they ran into a strange game with Gerber playing out of his damn mind. Today however they just didn't have it. It killed me when Nash had the break away and looked like an excited 12 year old. He makes that shot 9 out of 10 times. It really hurt, as I am a huge Blue Jackets fan.

I love how I have to watch hockey on MSNBC in non HD, but I get to watch cross country skiing in HD on NBC........
I'm guessing you don't get Universal HD? All the hockey games have been shown in HD on that. AMAZING fucking picture.

Well, our Women won gold with a great game against the Swedes. As big a win this was for Canada it was a bigger win for the Swedish Women's Hockey program. Now if only our men's team would take a cue from the women and start playing with heart.

Anybody here know a site that has pics of some of the hot looking women from these olympics? I'd especially like to see some recent pics of Italian figure skater Silvia Fontana. Even though she skates for Italy she lives and trains in NJ.

Canada - OUT! (No surprise, honestly)
USA - OUT! (Well, duh!)
Not a very good showing for North America today. Ouch.

I am a proud Canadian, and it was great to see the women win gold in hockey, but the men played like shit and they deserved to lose. Ryan Smyth, Martin St Louis, Vincent Lecalvier, Bryan McCabe, Adam Foote and Martin Brodeur were the only players that actually showed up for the tournament. They played like shit, they've embarresed themselves, and I hope Pat Quinn never ever coachs a national team again. Let him and his fucko Maple Leafs rot in Hoo Hoo Hell.
The US team wasn't expected to do anything this time around, but it's still not great to see both NA teams lose out this soon.

Well, we wound up with 24 medals, good enough for third and one behind the US. Now that I'm officially Olympic'd out, bring on Nascar baby.

What a great Gold Medal game. I would have rather seen Nitty and Finland win Gold but still wow what a game. Besides the dissapointing US and Canada perfermances this was still a great hockey tournament.

How do you think we feel with getting 11-4th place finishes. That's a real kick in the ass and it's looking good going into 2010 for Canada.
