I don't understand some things about XM after having it for a year. Ethel.... do you censore music or don't you? I've heard many swear words on it.... perfect example: Closer by NIN and What it's like by Whitey Ford. But then, let's take Bloodhound Gang's song... can't remember the name of it but says "radio edit" every time they sing "ain't my job, to fuck you on your birthday." (I also heard it unedited a long time ago on Ethel). Are they following a certain equation, time schedule, or does it just depend on the dj? Could XM please fucking explain this? Or someone that has found a pattern?

And for FUCK'S SAKE! QUIT EDITING LUCY! DRIVES ME FUCKING INSANE! I've heard the "F" bomb on BOTH The Loft and The Cafe'.... very rare but I am 100% sure. Nothing I hate more than edited music, it's not like I need swear words in songs, but just hate that awkward pause to cover up a word.

If an important human being reads this... please tell ELO. He's intimidating.:action-sm

I think that's one thing that Sirius actually has over XM. No unedited music (correct me if I'm wrong, please).

But I don't worry much about that. I listen to Squizz mostly for my music. I'll occasionally hit the 90s channel and maybe some of the hits stations.

If it isn't an XL channel it's not going to be uncensored.

No unedited music.

No + Un = double negative
Double negative= positive.
Conclusion based on Mr. McGavin's post is that all of sirius' music is edited.

First off, it's not Whitey Ford, it's EVERLAST. Secondly, the Bloodhound Gang put out 2 versions of that song, one with "radio edit" in it, and one without.

I think when it comes to a non-xl channel, they do it on a song by song basis. What the criteria is, I don't know. However, I have heard swearing on Lucy. Case in point, last night they played "Rooster" by Alice in Chains in it's entirety, no edits at all.

Do a search on siriusbackstage.com on censorship and you will see all kinds of threads on this. Certain sponsors on Sirius require censoring before they will sponsor shows or channels. On XM you will hear unedited music mostly on the XL channels. I remember one day listening to a song on Fungus and the whole display filled up with the F word when the singer said it.

I just wish it would go one way or another. Preferably 100% uncensored. They play the type of music that has the occassional swear word, and I'm sure the demographic they're going after can handle a "bad" word. Same with Lucy.

I wonder if they just have both versions in the big machine and it randomly picks which one to play?

Isn't Ethel one of the channels that AOL has?

Yeah, I know it sounds hippyish to be mad at the FCC, but it is really despicable. I say if a word is in the dictionary, we should be able to use it in every day life.

"The word '......' in and of itself is not a bad word. It's just a word. It all depends on the context the word is used in. If a white trash redneck says it, it's bad. But Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor use it all the time in their act, and no one cares do they? Of course they don't, they're .......!" -George Carlin

EDIT

Alright it seems the forum has censored me. Ironic considering the topic of this thread. Change '.....' to 'knitters,' and you will be able to understand the quote :)

I have heard plenty of songs played uncensored on the 90's. Didn't Ethel used to be a XL channel?

Sirius uses radio edits depending on the channel. Channel 1, the top 40 channel, will play the censored version of a song at the same moment Shade 45 is playing the real thing. I think they only do it on the channels that have really high kid listenership, but I've never bothered to look into it.

As for AOL, they simply dumped all XL channels because they're too stupid to figure out a way to institute a channel-locking system.
