You are certainly entitled to your opinion...
Just out of curiosity, what is your rational?
Is it because Johnson is a "Better Pitcher"?
Is it because Johnson is a "Better Teammate"?
Maybe, it's because Johnson is an all around Nice guy?
Face it, if Schilling was wearing Pinstripes, and the situation was reversed, (I.E. Schilling being totally overpaid and sucking a big black cock and Johnson being the backbone of the Sox) your opinion would be reversed as well.

My rational is I hate Red Sox fans that constantly throw little jabs. The guy had been hot and cold all year. He had 3 great starts before this one, it really irritates me to see your posts.. I went to school in Boston and all of my friends are red sox fans and you are all the same...

Know what I hate?
I hate ANY fan of a team who hates on players from another team just because they play on said competing team. You sound like a fucking 2 year old! <retarded voice> "I HATE THIS GUY AND THAT GUY BECAUSE HE PLAYS FOR BOSTON!" <retarded voice>
I could give a shit if you my posts irritate you, at least I back what I say up with facts. If you look back at almost all of my posts in this forum, you will see that although I am a lifelong Red Sox fan, I have a lot of respect for many of the Yankee players. I have had many conversations regarding the Yankees, that had nothing to do with the Red Sox. In fact, if you look back 1 page, you will see this whole thing was started by you,
I'd rather have him than Shilling...
Why would you even bring him into this? I was actually watching the game and saw Johnson getting schelacked and made comment. I didn't say anything about the Red Sox, you did. So I'll ask you, "who is taking Jabs now?"
My "jabs" are directed to those who are only about the almighty $$, not about the game." Yes, before you start ripping me apart about the Red Sox having guys like that on the payroll, I am fully aware of it and am as equally disgusted by it. The difference is, atleast the Sox are having some success with them so it's hard (as a Sox fan) to hate them that much. Trust me, when they shit the bed, which is a distinct possibility, I will have plenty to say about them too.
I love to see the home grown talent flourish, (i.e. Melky, Bernie, Posada, Jeter, etc to name a few).
As far as Johnson having 3 great starts before yesterday, one was against Atlanta, probably one of, if not the worst teams in Baseball. In his last 5 starts he is 2-3. Hardly makes him worth the distinction of being the highest paid pitcher in Baseball...
I don't like Johnson because of who he is, not who he plays for.
Now, until you can formulate a response to me with facts rather than your opinions, stiffle!:action-sm

I could care less about Johnson's contract..and if your whole thing is a crusade against overpaid players then, I don't have a comment, because that's just dumb...Didn't Johnson get that contract after a cy young season?? Since he is a future hall of famer, I don't see why he would sign for less..
Has he had some struggles, sure, but he has also shown signs of life. And I don't care if he goes 12-15 w/ a 6.00 era during the season if he can put it together and be a dominate playoff pitcher.
Now, to the schilling comment..There is a reason why I do not post on the Red Sox thread, they are not my team and I'm sure people would not appreciate it if I started posting, wow Beckett really sucks, or how about Clement..Or how about the great season that captain Varitek is having..Talk about overpaid..
It's not my teams thread so I am not going to fuel the fire by pointing out something they already know...
You do contribute to this thread but I know your a Red Sox fan, and I personally hate Red Sox fans...I think you are all a bunch of douchebags..I have met dozens of Red Sox fans, and I can honestly say there is only one that I do not think is a complete ass when it comes to baseball.. Your deciding to comment on Johnson while I'm listening to the Yankees get spanked by the Mets is extremely irritating, the last thing I want to see is a Red Sox fan comment that Johson really sucks..

Well, at least you used some fact rather than your opinion here.
You are right on pretty much every point, with the exception of Beckett & Tek. Tek is having an off year & the plate but he is doing a fantastic job calling the game. That with his leadership is worth the $10 million paycheck. It's the going rate for top notch catchers today. I'm not ready to sell him out yet, but you're somewhat right. If he slips anymore, it will get a lot harder to justify the payroll.
My comment on Johnson came out of the same frustration that you were feeling. Yes, I'm a Red Sox fan, but I'm also a fan of the AL. I root for the AL everytime they are playing, so yes, I was rooting for the Yanks to beat the shit out of the METS. I know that may shock you as we are all "Douchebags" but it is what it is.
As I said earlier, it's not all about Johnson being overpaid, it's more about him being a shithead. Even you, as a Yankee fan, have to admit that. Weather or not he'll be a contributer in the Post season is yet to be seen. The fact is that if he keeps playing like he is, the Post season won't even be a consideration.
As far as me posting in this thread, I live in NY and watch almost every Yankee game as well as follow them fairly close all season. If you don't like me because I'm a "Douchebag", fine. Trust me I won't lose any sleep. If you don't like me because I'm a Red Sox fan, brother, you need to get a life.
Anyway, hopefully Wright shows up to pitch today. If he's on, they should be able to have a good game today as I think they are going to tee off on Soler. I'm looking for Giambi to have a big game today.

Even at 13 - 4 I get worried about our bullpen getting it done. Despite all the problems, the Yankees had a very good first half. I feel the division lead will change a few more times before the end of the regular season.

I hate Michael Kay...they're talking about how the Yanks have been in bad need of pitching this season.
The only name that's out there is . I was talking to his manager down in AA Trenton and asked him who he most compares to. He thought about it for a minute and said, 'Roger Clemens.' He's 6'4", 230 lbs right now, he'll probably be 250 in the near future. I asked him how he projects...'Is he a 2nd or 3rd starter?' And the manager said, 'Michael...[i]he is an ACE!!!' When I asked if he could pitch in the majors right now, he said 'Absolutely without a doubt.' Every team has asked Brian Cashman for this kid...now the only question is whether or not they trade him
After spending fuckin 3 minutes waxing poetic about this 20 year old stallion down in Trenton, he then ponders if/when the Yanks will trade him...fantastic
Goddamn you A-Rod, when the catcher drops strike 3 you actually run it out, not jog out of the batter's box and then walk...faggot

Matsui making progress... (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2528539)
Matsui making progress in comeback from wrist injury
TAMPA, Fla. -- New York Yankees left fielder Hideki Matsui is making progress in his comeback from a broken left wrist but still isn't ready to take batting practice.
Matsui took easy swings off a tee and during a soft toss session with a mini-bat during his second workout Monday at the Yankees' minor-league complex. He also had a long toss session and fielded fly balls and grounders in the outfield.
"At this point, there are no problems," Matsui said through a translator. "I'm practicing to where it doesn't cause any problems."
Matsui has been sidelined since breaking his wrist while diving for a fly ball hit by Boston's Mark Loretta on May 11. A batting practice timetable could be set next week if Matsui is re-examined.
The Yankees are hopeful Matsui can rejoin the team in August.
"Right now I don't have a specific date," Matsui said. "I'm working on it now, expecting to be back as soon as possible."
Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano, out with a left hamstring injury, did agility drills Monday in the outfield in addition to taking batting practice and fielding grounders. He hasn't played since he got hurt running out a double against Florida on June 25.
The All-Star infielder hopes to run the bases Friday or Saturday. If that goes well, he could start a minor-league rehab assignment next week.
"It's feeling a lot looser," Cano said. "But I don't want to rush it."
Cano would likely play in two or three minor-league games before rejoining the Yankees.

Fuck that. I hate how the media is now blaming yankee fans for the fact that this guy cant do shit when it comes down to it. These are the 2 that im really sick of hearing: "The fans booing him makes him press to hard." or "Alex is very hard on himself and hes putting to much on himself to come out of it".
You make 25 million dollars a year and god knows how much in endorsements and your telling me that a bunch of people booing makes you strike out EVERY time the game is on the line? If thats the case, then he needs to accept any trade they offer up and get out of NY.
With the exception of the 3error game that they won, it seems that every error he makes bites them in the ass and is in some big spot.
Im not saying we need to get rid of him because i think hes an awesome player and I would love to see him hit 800Hrs in stripes, but the guy needs to grow a set of nuts, ignore the fans and just start playing decent again.
Oh and "Guile goes boom!". Guess this guy is turning out to be quite a steal

Yanks designate Stinnett, add Sal Fasano. (http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060726&content_id=1576202&vkey=news_nyy&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy)
ARLINGTON -- Looking to improve their backup catcher position, the Yankees acquired Sal Fasano from the Phillies on Wednesday morning.
New York sent Minor League infielder Hector Made to Philadelphia to complete the deal.
To make room for Fasano on their roster, the Yankees designated Kelly Stinnett for assignment.
Fasano, 34, batted .243 with four home runs and 10 RBIs in 50 games with the Phillies before landing on the disabled list on July 4 with left knee inflammation. He was designated for assignment on July 22.
Fasano spent the 2004 season in the Yankees organization, spending Spring Training with New York before being sent to Triple-A Columbus for the year. In 368 career games with six teams, Fasano owns a career batting average of .225 with 45 home runs and 125 RBIs.
Stinnett, 36, hit just .228 in 34 games with the Yankees this season, striking out 29 times in 79 at-bats. He was signed by the Yankees this winter to replace John Flaherty as Jorge Posada's backup, but he did not live up to expectations at the plate.
trade deadline 2006
complete coverage >
Made, 21, hit .286 in 86 games with Class A Tampa in 2006. He was signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic on July 17, 2001.

Good job Yanks on the Abreu deal. Corey Lidle stinks btw, he'll have 1 great outing then 5 bad.
No clue about the prospects, Phils just looking to unload cash it seems. Abreu is a very good hitting, his power is gone but a good eye at the plate. The golden glove thing is a joke though, just kinda watch and see on that, you'll never see an outfielder play it safe the way Bobby Abreu does in the field.
Oh Sal Fassano? Hehe thanks for taking that mess. Phils called up a 33 year old rookie catcher (Chris Coste)and he's hitting .339 with more RBI's then Fassano in 1/3 the games.
Fassano strikes out every 2.5 at bats, but enjoy the crazy mustache. You guys have plenty of weapons without.

Your Welcome man we loved to unload Abreu's contract and you guys wanted him so there you can have him . Lidle is pretty inconsistent he has one good outing and then he might have 2 or 3 bad ones after that . I he does better than that then Congratulations to you . Anyway IF the Yankees don't make the playoffs then what do you guys do . I mean if you want Burrell we will gladly give him to you for a prospect(I'am not sure if he even deserves that). So thankyou Yankees for taking Abreu . We also look forward to you guys taking Burrell off our hands.

Lidle is pretty inconsistent he has one good outing and then he might have 2 or 3 bad ones after that .
Maybe because your team sucks a dick.
On his way out of Philadelphia, Lidle said: "I'm the kind of player that goes to the field every day expecting to win, and unfortunately over the last few years I haven't had a clubhouse that expected to win with me. So we'd go to the field on the days I'm pitching, it's almost a coin flip as to know if the guys behind me are going to be there to play 100%."
And he's not the only pitcher to talk shit about Philly while going to a real sports town, where we win things.
Wagner said he "felt like it was 24 against 1" and that the team was waiting for him to fail during the 2004 season.
And why would the Yankees ever want Pat Burrell? You say alot of dumb shit with no reasoning behind it...
Now onto things people actually care about...
• The Devil Rays are convinced that the Red Sox had contact with the agent for Julio Lugo without their permission -- ESPN reported the contact between the Red Sox and Lugo's rep last Sunday evening -- and are furious about it, believing Boston did serious damage to their efforts to either trade or sign Lugo. And now Tampa Bay could block any player the Red Sox may try to pass through waivers.

Really? I wasnt aware going 10 for 25 with 3 doubles, hitting .400 and having an OBP of around .465 was underperforming. No matter what you say, Abreu was a great pickup for the Yanks, because he doesnt have to carry this team like he did with Philly.
And no matter how passionate Philly fans are, the teams there are still all losers. At least Boston has the Celtics and now the Pats. Philly has nothing to be proud of in sports. Except AI.

Lets do a little experiment.
Last time the Phillies won the World Series, here's some of the shit that was happening in the world:
-Jimmy Carter is president.
-Ayatollah Khomeini names Abolhassan Banisadr as president of Iran.
-President Jimmy Carter announces that the United States will boycott the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow.
-Mount St. Helens erupts in Washington killing 57 and causing US$3 billion in damage
-Comedian Richard Pryor is badly burned trying to freebase cocaine.
-Former California Governor and actor Ronald Reagan is nominated for U.S. President
-U.S. presidential election, 1980: Republican challenger former Governor Ronald Reagan of California defeats incumbent Democrat President Jimmy Carter by a wide margin exactly one year after the beginning of the Iran hostage crisis.
-John Lennon is murdered by gunshot outside his New York apartment, by Mark Chapman.
-In a travesty, Ordinary People defeats Raging Bull for Best Picture
-Albert Pujols, Yao Ming, Randy Orton, Chein-Ming Wang are all born.
-Rollie Fingers breaks Hoyt Wilhelm's major league record of 227 career saves.
- Los Angeles Lakers won 4 games to 2 over the Philadelphia 76ers (Wow, a Philly team lost. Surprise, surprise.)
-Roberto Duran defeats Sugar Ray Leonard by a 15 round decision to win boxing's WBC world Welterweight title.
-In The No Más Fight, in Montreal, Quebec, Sugar Ray Leonard recovers the WBC's world Welterweight championship with an eight round technical knockout of Roberto Duran.
-Larry Holmes defeats Muhammad Ali by a knockout in round eleven to retain boxing's WBC world Heavyweight title, in what would be Ali's last world title bout.
-Super Bowl XIV (that means 14): Pittsburgh Steelers won 31-19 over the Los Angeles Rams
Now, lets see what was going on when the Yanks last won. It was so long ago, you might need an encyclopedia to recall such things.
-Millennium celebrations take place throughout the world, even though the new millennium did not technically begin until January 1, 2001. Y2K passes without the serious, widespread computer failures and malfunctions that many in the news media had predicted.
-Alan Greenspan is nominated for a fourth term as U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman.
-St. Louis Rams defeat the Tennessee Titans 23-16 to win the Super Bowl XXXIV. (that means 34. Wow, who remembers that shit>)
-Vice President Al Gore wins the New Hampshire Democratic primary. George W. Bush wins the Republican primary
-Hillary Clinton enters the New York Senate race. (I remember her. My grandfather told me about her. Because this was so long ago.)
-Hans Blix assumes the position of Executive Chairman of UNMOVIC.
-Presidential elections in Russia: Vladimir Putin is elected President.
-American Beauty wins for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. (surprised the film held up over all these years)
-The Official release date for The Marshall Mathers LP, Eminem's second solo album. (this guy used to be really famous)
-The New Jersey Devils defeat the Dallas Stars 4 games to 2 to win the 2000 Stanley Cup Finals.
-The Texas 7 escape from their prison unit in Kenedy, Texas, and start a crime spree.
-Tom Landry dies.
Get it? Now, unless you have something to contribute, stop posting in this thread.

Look I can respect you guys won but I don't get the point how does that help you now .
Because it gives them that winning attitude. They know what it takes to win. If you deny that, you're retarded. It showed when we lost about 70 HRs and 250 RBIs from the middle of our lineup, yet still have the second best record in baseball. It also showed when the Mets hired our bench coach, with the sole purpose of teaching their young players how to win. How's that working out for them? Pretty well right, your Phillies are certainly staring up at Willie's ass. Although its real far away. You have no idea how winning helps a team, because you've never seen ANY of your teams win.
You're just bitter and jealous. Its okay.

How does the Yankees winning all those past World Series help them now when they are on the field ?Answer me
The Bullshit you said was all Intagibles Oh it gives them the winning attitude Bullshit . How many players are on this team that were also there when the Yankees won the Series.
By the way now we are down to making excuses . The Yankees play the Red Sox and Blue Jays .
I always hated the Yankees because everyone fucking was a bandwagon jumper for the Yankees because they won . If you don't live in NY or surronding areas why are you a Yankees fan??

How does the Yankees winning all those past Worls Series help them now when they are on the field ?Answer me
The fucking paragraph I just wrote wasnt enough? How about the ambiance of Yankee stadium too? There's very few players who have ever come in here, especially during the postseason (which you wont know much about) who have said the pressure and the history of playing in Yankee Stadium doesnt make it tough. It also helps us attract free agents. Again, something you wouldnt know about, because who the fuck wants to play, let alone live, in FUCKING PHILLY
Winning helps in the same way losing hurts. When you lose forever, like the Indians, Royals, Pirates and Phillies, your team half expects to lose. And then they do. When you have a winning attitude and tradition, your team tends to win more.
And Eminem sucks a big black meaty one.
Picking a fight with Yankees fans about franchise history in baseball is pretty stupid.
Especially when you're a fan of the all-time losingest franchise in baseball history and the Yanks happen to be the all-time winningest.
You may want to pick a fight you can win, Aizzazle, like try taking on some Mets fans.
I do have to call askewcore out on one statement, though:
And the fact the Tigers play 38 games against the Indians and Royals, while the Yanks play 38 games against the Red Sox and Blue Jays has nothing to do with that right?
Yeah, because you know, it's not like the Yanks get the O's and Devil Rays for 38 games a year. :icon_roll
If you're coming up with reasons why the Yankees are better than the Tigers this year, there's a lot better than that one.

Way to respond to my SECOND and less valid post, not the one with the real reasons, shitheel.
And way to come up with some good reasons against it. "Fuck Yankee Stadium" BRILLIANT man! Fucking enlightening. You wanna bet that this city and winning doesnt attract free agents? Just because our owner pumps his money back into his team, and we make money hand over fist everywhere we go, while the Phillies have to unload payroll year after year because no one supports, or cares about the team, doesnt mean you have to cry about it.
The one big player that Philly did get (TO) put your team over the hump that your mediocre QB couldnt do. Then you jerks ran him out of town.

Its not the yankees spending that led you to over pay for Jim Thome and then kick him to the White Sox where he has been kicking ass. Think Wild Card, my friend.
As for what occured in this thread earlier today, people like Az are what makes me a self-loathing Philly fan. I seriously hate large portions of the fanbase because they feed into every awful stereotype of the "Philadelphia fan" the media comes up with.
Don't get me wrong, there are some great fans who actually understand the sports and can have rationale discussions that don't degenerate into "my team is more gooder than your team" and "fuck you, you suck."
But then you get the large mongoloid population of the fanbase. Philadelphia kind of has a Roosevelt Island South quality to it.
Sadly, the latter is the majority.

My Angels come through minus no trades fags...Im a Angel fan but i respect your owner wants to win and will pay for it like i wish all teams cared. Heres to hoping the best can come from both teams and lets meet in the ALCS so we can have a fun thread. best of luck Yankee fans.

Can someone please tell me why Nick Green is batting in the bottom of the 7th inning. Runner on second no outs, Cano, Posada, Bernie on the bench. So you have the guy sacrifice but we are down by three runs anyway.
Then you send up Posada and Cano to pinch hit in the 9th against Frankie Rodriguez with no momentum.
Torre is a fucking tool.

Consdering the Royals gave us Christmas in August, I will be content with still being 2 up. The 5 gamer with Boston is going to be something.

Very nice win. A-Rod played well and came through with that sac fly. RJ pitched well too. That game made me happy. Getting away from the Angels with a split is acceptable to me because those fuckers always give us problems.

Now all we need is to take care of the O's the way the Sox have all season. They're 11-1 against them on the season. With the Sox having a day off, we can pick up a free 1/2 game too

How the fuck does Arod constantly bobble balls in those spots? The Ks with guys on base is bad enough but the extra outs he gives is just rediculus.

If Damon was on any other team than Boston and the yanks signed him, I would be pissed off other than being really annoyed. Fucking them and their fans over is what made this stomachable for me. I dont think hes a bad player but its another over paid guy on the team, another excuse for the payroll arguement and another aging player. The Andrew Jones idea is the one I would go for and maybe next season when they can finally get rid of the malcontent in Right Field, they can move Damon over and put Jones in center.
I apologize to Johnny for saying this in March. I am now a Johnny Damon fan.
Boston takes another L. GO TIGERS!

We activated Dotel today. This should be interesting to see how he does. At least Proctor wont have to pitch everyday anymore.

Its nice to see the emergence of Proctor as an important part of the bullpen. For years I wondered what Joe saw in this guy but he finally came around.

"Screw Wrigley Field! The Friendly Confines, my ass. What's so @#%$ friendly about charging fans $54 a ticket and giving them losing season after losing season? And what's so fan-friendly about all these retro-parks like Camden @#$& Yards and Safeco @#&% Field and whatever the @##&% they call that park in San Francisco these days? Skylines and fountains and fancy sandwiches and $9 microbrews are for morons and losers -- the only things real fans want to see when the walk into a stadium is world championship banners. And I got plenty of them."
That may be the only thing Jim Caple has ever written that I agree with. Too bad he wrote it as a joke. I can't stand him. He's made a career of hating the Yankees just because it's hip to do so. We all know that ESPN is already NESN2, but he takes the cake.

Quoted for fact. Hearing Morgan, Berman or Miller call a Yankees game is like watching it on the other teams network. Berman will talk for hours about the "majesty" of Fenway but never say a word about Yankee Stadium.

Nevermind the biggest Sox homer ever...Peter Gammons. Karl Ravich isn't much better. Faggot Steve Phillips is just bitter that he ran the Mets into the ground so he hates the Yankees like a little brother hates his big brother.

And they fired Harold Reynolds...the only one who seemed to like the Yanks.
Granted he harrased some ladies, but they probably were happy to see him go on top of that.

Jaret Wight really threw the team under the bus today. Now they have to play a doubleheader on the road against a team coming off an off day with a bullpen that just threw basically 6 horrible innings.
Torre should have left Wright in for 120 pitches no matter how bad they were just to keep the bullpen rested for the weekend.
Yanks will still win 3 of 5 though.

Huge win, now there is little to no pressure on Ponson. I was stuck listening to the WEEI Boston telecast on my XM Boombox at work since I couldnt get 880AM in there. Wow, those guys are like listening to NPR, they were more concerned about the Jimmy Fund then the actual game. I wish XM would offer dual telecasts for big series. I need my Sterling.

Holy shit was that game long. 4:45...longest 9 inning game in history. I wonder whose bullpen is going to be more shot, ours or their's.
The teams combined for 41 runs and 61 hits. Twenty pitchers -- that's counting Mike Myers and Scott Proctor twice -- threw 783 pitches. In all, the teams played 8:40 minutes of baseball, from Jason Johnson's first pitch at 1:10 p.m. until Mariano Rivera covered first to retire Wily Mo Pena at 12:52 a.m.
"I don't even remember half of it," said Derek Jeter, who hit a bases-clearing double in a seven-run seventh inning to give New York an 11-10 lead.
"It feels great," Jeter said sarcastically, "especially when we have another one in a few hours."

He fist frooze and asked for daddy than said John Damon, Those 2 annoucers were stunned I was laughing my ass off. I wish I was recording it. Fucking classic..

I want to thank the Yankee's for making the end of my Baseball season as painless as possible.
I didn't want to get a long, drawn out death like is the usual custom for the Red Sox Nation.
Lets see if we can see a fourth football score in a row.
