I'd like to congratulate you Mets fans...I'm sure it's been a long time coming for you guys.

Don't get me wrong, though...I'm only doing this because as Jimmy so elequently put this morning it's a necessary preface for the fact that I'll be the first one here to scream "faggots!" when they get bounced.

Nevertheless, congrats!

I just caught the encore...

did everyone see the two signs with wow stickers on them? In the 9th inning there was one held by Lee alongside myself and then the other one was held by danny's brother with two stickers on them. We were very proud they made the air... :)

I was sitting at the First base line about 10 rows back from the dugout. Awesome fucking seats....awesome fucking game.....I hope someone screencap the sign. Oh yeah the kid who held it up in from of the camera was Josh.

Oh yeah LOTS more pictures from the game to come tomorrow!!!!!

I saw you on TV twice in the 9th inning. At the beginning of the inning I saw someone else with another sign with 1 WOW sticker...nice to see

How can we not roll through the NL?

The WOW sign was awesome. It was on more than twice, as it was shown after the game ended as well as twice during the 9th. It also made a replay that was shown late at night during a segment showing various shots of the fans. I was thinking that one of the SNY guys must have been a fan of the show. The cool thing was that they played the O&A commercial a couple times, coincidentally right before the sign was shown.

As for tonight...

8 innings from Galvine tonight with the decision... our "B team" beats the fish. Can't wait for the postseason.

Only thing that will suck is that no more Gary, Keith, and Ron. We have to deal with ol' McCarver on FOX.

What is the deal with playoff tix?

I just bought four upper deck reserve seats in section 12 row D for game five. I got those ticketfast tix, that they send you a pdf file and you print at home.

Here is my question. I just noticed on the tickets that it says "no refunds" on it, with no further info. They can not take your money, have no game (if it ends in 3 or 4), and not give you a refund, can they? I know they rip you off every way they can now, but that seams a bit harsh, no? I would be pissed if I have to eat a $220 lesson in life.

The Mets could do things differently, but I know I bought presale playoff tickets for the Phillies in 2003. They didn't make it, so the team refunded them.

I think the 'no refund' on your tickets means you can't call them up tomorrow and decide you want to exchange them and get your cash back. If there's no game, they'll probably refund you.

However, none of these bastards refund service charges if the the team doesn't end up playing the games you bought tickets for. That's a $40 life lesson I learned a couple years ago.

This team is really starting to piss me off right now. They are sleepwalking through these final weeks. If they think they are just going to magically turn it on next week, they may have another thing coming. The rest of the National League isn't going to say "Hey Mets, you guys dominated the NL this year, we are going to lay down and let you guys represent the league in the World Series". Not happening. They better fuckin' wake up and start playing good baseball.

I'm more concered about setting up the playoff rotation

I'd go:

NLDS

Game 1- El Duque
Game 2- Glavine
Game 3 Pedro
Game 4 (If up 2-1)-Trax

Game 5-Whoever pitched better between Glavine and Pedro

I don't think Pedro is coming back on 1 day rest to pitch Game 5 after pitching Game 3. However I agree with the rest. I would pitch Pedro on Sunday in the last game of the season. Only pitch him 3 innings to get him some work and hopefully go out on a lot more positive note than tonight. And then he will be ready to go next Saturday in Game 3.

Holy fuck. I leave this site for a few weeks (moved back to the US now,http://capgraphics.net/Wackbag/Animations/Nortonshog/SMILIE-woot.gif)...and this fucking team decides to sleepwalk the rest of the way to the playoffs.

I wasn't worried at first, but now I gotta admit, Willie better find a way to get some fire under their asses again, or they're dead in the water.

Fred Told Me
09-28-2006, 10:25 PM
Well Pedro is done for the season. Everybody has to step up now. Even without Pedro, they are still the best team in the National League, and the way El Duque has been pitching the last month and with his track record in the playoffs, it's almost like he's the new Pedro. The fact that no team has a great starting rotation, with the exception of the damn Astros who are about to be a 1/2 game out. Mets can't play the Astros in the 1st Round thank God, unless the Phillies win the Wild Card which I've said all along is not happening, and will be proven right in 3 days. so the Mets starting rotation is not great, they still have the best lineup and the best bullpen in the NL. There is still no excuses not to go to the World Series. Once we get there, that's going to become extremely difficult without a healthy Pedro, but let's get there first.

The Phillies shouldn't scare anybody, because like I said all along they will be watching come October. I love reading the heartbreak that is going on over in the Phillies thread. And they will probably come in here and go "Pedro is out, Mets aren't going to the World Series". Whatever, Mets are still going to the World Series and the Phillies are still going home after the weekend. The Phillies will not pull off a 99 Mets and come back from 2 behind with 3 to go. It's over Johnny. I wish I would have posted this before the week but I predicted they would lose to Houston, and then lose 2 out of 3 to Washington and Florida. I'm almost there. And thanks to the Phillies ineptness, we won't have to face the Astros in the 1st Round.

You're probably right about the Phillies, but your rationale is that of a typical mongoloid Mets fan.

You should be deathly afraid (or at least should have been a week ago when it looked a little more promising for the Phils). Look how your bbbboys have fared against left-handed pitching.

They don't want to be staring out from home plate at Cole Hamels for two starts in a series at this point. Everybody in baseball is saying the Mets are praying the Phillies don't make it because of that very reason.

Either way, the Mets are done. No pitching and no heart over the last month. Enjoy your three playoff games. That's all you're getting.

Fred Told Me

:) Not only are the Mets going to lose in the 1st Round, they are going to get swept now :) :). Please come back in here after Game 1 and revise your statement. You guys couldn't get the job done in Washington, and you could beat the Marlins 25-1, it don't matter. What do the Phillies have in common with these baseball powerhouses- The Nationals, Pirates, Brewers, Blue Jays, Devils Rays, and Royals. Answer- The only teams to never make the playoffs in the Wildcard era of Baseball. Have fun watching again. And I know your gonna repost the Mets have no pitching they are going to lose in the 1st round. When that happens come back here and gloat all you want, until then get ready for the Packers on Monday Night. Adios.

well it looks like the shit has hit the fan. Pedro is out 8 months with shoulder surgery. Trachsel left the team for personal reasons and according to newsday, Milledge got into a fight with a veteran to which the rest of the team responded by leaving a sign over his locker that read, "KNOW YOUR PLACE, ROOK!" I heard Willie Randolph reprimanded Milledge, to which Milledge replied, "What I'm just bustin' balls, and right away he's gettin' fuckin fresh".

Pedro being out for 8 months. I'll worry about that in November. Right now the playoffs are upon us, and I could care less about next year. 07:51 PM - News: NLDS Set, Mets vs. Dodgers

...posted by Matthew Cerrone...

The Mets will play the Dodgers, who won the NL Wild Card today, in the National League Division Series starting at 4:00 pm in New York on Wednesday…

The pitching match-ups are looking as follows:

Game One: RHP Derek Lowe vs. RHP Orlando Hernandez
Game Two: LHP Hong-Chih Kuo vs. LHP Tom Glavine
Game Three: RHP Greg Maddux vs. RHP Steve Trachsel

…keep in mind that the mets have yet to officialy name trachsel as the game three starter…however, trachsel, and most people around the team seem to feel he will get the nod…

…the word out of los angeles is that Brad Penny, who is 16–9 with 4.33, but nursing a sore back, will be pitching out of the bullpen…

Fred Told Me
10-02-2006, 12:40 AM
Im very happy to see that Penny may not be pitching in this series. The Dodgers scare me a bit though and they have been on fire at the end of the season. Pitching usually wins in the playoffs, but with the lack of great pitching in the National League, the Mets bats and their superior bullpen is what they are going to need to rely on to win this series and the NL crown.

Folks, as much as I would have loved some kind of “dominant performance”, this game just goes to show that these guys don’t give up. They fought back, reclaimed the lead and won. Their actions are the makings of a championship team. I have great hope with this team.

Tonight I am relaxed and looking forward to our next opponent …. with tickets in hand!

Fred Told Me
10-08-2006, 01:55 AM
Great win. Even without Pedro and El Duque this team has a great shot to win a Championship with the Evil Empire done. It looks like Floyd was only day to day, so hopefully he will be back for Game 1 on Wednesday. He was hitting really well in this series too. And once again the Mets get screwed on a ball that hits the very top of the wall. If Green's ball travels 1 inch further, we get another run and Floyd doesn't get hurt. I'm sick of this top of the wall shit.

Willie made a HUGE mistake letting Oliver pitch to Kent. I said it when Kent came up. I can't believe he's having Oliver pitch to him. and sure enough 1st pitch homerun. But besides that, he did everything right in the series. Used the bullpen well and his decision to go back to Green tonight was great.

What a well pitched game. Glavine was on. Motta had the turning point of the game when he had one on, two outs, and Pujols on deck. He came all the way back from 3-0 on Preston Wilson and threw five straight strikes to get him out.

Not that anyone really gives a shit, but I was able to score a ticket in less then five minutes when I got to Shea. Just waited at the ticket window, and they had a single ticket Loge inner box. I actually got a whole row. The other two seats in my row of my box never showed, so I sat in the middle and put my coat on the seat to the left, and my bag on the seat to the right. Awsome night, can not wait till tommorow, will me in Mezz. row A for game two.

So ESPN is reporting that Soriano is refusing a big offer from the Nats, which they are denying. I thought he had one more year on his contract, but I guess I'm wrong.

The question is, if he is a free agent and doesnt want to be a Nat anymore, is it time for the mets to try and grab him. They could either put him at 2nd base, which he really wanted to stay at, or put him in one of the corners. They should be able to afford him, and that lineup would be insane.

The Nat's look really stupid now, knowing that he'd be a Free Agent that probably wouldn't want to play in Washingtion, and not trading him this season.
They fucked up, and if he's rejecting 5 years 70 Mil I don't think they can offer him much more.

The Mets lost the game in the Scott Spiezio at bat where Mota for some unknown reason grooves a fast ball down the plate on 0-2, when he had him looking foolish on two changeups prior. This loss sucks. I don't even want to talk or in this case write about it.

Well, that sucked. Can anyone on the Met staff throw a strike? Fucking had them down 0-2 with Carpenter only able to go one more time in the series and let them off the hook. Ahead 6-4 matching bullpens I felt good. Alas Motto and Wagner had nothing and the Card pen came up big. At least I can feel confident that we can get to Carpenter. Delgado is a God. Reyes woke up, he needs to wake Wright up though, he is sleeping. I want a sweep in St. Louis so I can cash in my game 6 and 7 tix for a WS tic.

Oh, one other thing. These playoff games take waaaaaay to long to play. Every break is an extra minute long. Adds up after a while. Night folks.

id be worried as a met fan tonight becuase:

1) carpenter was pitching tonight,so while your not expecting to lose you know its possible

-Carpenter pitches like shit, but STL still wins

every game in this series is going to be a bullpen battle, and the Cards proved tonight they can hang with the Met pen

2)Pujols hasnt done anything, and its 1-1

Pujols hasn't done anything? Really? Did you see his at bat in the 7th where he fouled off like 10 pitches in a row with 2 out and nobody on and then ripped a double down the line to extend the inning, and then 2 batters later the game is tied. Did you see him in the 9th inning rip another double after Taguchi's homer to help give the Cards much needed insurance runs?

You're going to be so, so, sad when Billy Wagner serves up hit after hit in playoff games costing the Mets what should be a surefire World Series birth.

If there is a definition of unclutch, it's that guy. The Mets, as usual, have hitched their wagon to a loser. I don't expect you to believe it...but you'll soon find out that hard way.

...Pitching wins almost all the time in October...if the Mets are going to win, they need Pedro at least stabilized and Glavine getting in a decent groove. With them, they have a distinct edge. Without them, they're as vulnerable as anyone.

The Mets have a nice offense...but you seldom see a lot of 10-8 games in the playoffs. The NL's not great, but you condense pitching staffs for the playoffs. That means you see the Top 3 starters, and unless a game is blown open, only the two or three best relievers out of a bullpen almost every game. And if you look at the rest of the NL playoff teams, they all have solid starters at the top of their rotations. And they all can throw one or two solid relievers out of the pen each night.

Oh wait, but I forgot how you all were telling me that Traschel and Maine were quality playoff caliber pitchers. :icon_lol:

And with Oliver Perez going tomorrow...good luck bro to the 2006 Mets.

I loved reading that article 8 reasons Mets fans shouldn't give up half of those reasons are shit, especially the Jeff Weaver one and then saying Tom Glavine is one of the reasons why they will win. Hell ask any Braves fan why they hate Tom, if he would pitch as well in the post season as he does in the regular season the Braves would have 3 or 4 WS championships instead of 1.

Glavine has one, one standout pitching performance in post season play, Smoltz was the horse of those teams not Glavine. Even if they win tonight I predict a Glavine meltdown in game 5, feel free to run him out of town like the piece of shit he is.

The one thing that worries me is that they always try to get these playoff games in. With the Division series now, it really puts a tight time constraint on them. They do have an off day tomorrow, but then the weather in NY on wed doesnt look very good. Should be interesting how they do this. bwaaahahahahahahahaha
Nothing funnier than an Atlanta faggot whining in a Mets thread. And as far as post season choking, your entire team was to blame so don't try to put it all on Glavine.

Keep posting here stupid, you're bringing us luck.

Whining? Whos whining? You should have been able to do this last year when we had nobody but you couldnt so congrats on being a year late.

I am bringing you facts, look at glavines record during the postseason and you will see that he is horrible during that time. When he loses tomorrow I will leave you to your grief.

http://amja.net/images/mercha35.jpg

Besides everyone hates mets fans, its easier to cheer for the yankees or sox than to cheer for the most uninformed fans in baseball. Everyone knows good pitching beats good hitting, just ask any Atlanta fan whose number 1, 2, and 3 pitchers never produced in the post season, Smoltz was the one who showed up every time.

Oh and for the mods, didnt you give me a warning for calling people names in another thread? And I only told the guy he was a moron. Guess since Im not a mets robot I get the warning.

You're wasting your time trying to talk logic with Mets fans. They come out of the woodwork like roaches when they have a good team and they're the biggest homers around.

As far as the series, I'll admit I was shocked that Perez was at least decent last night. That was huge for the Mets.

To state the obvious, who ever wins Game 5 probably takes the series. Glavine's the better pitcher, but Glavine will be pitching on short rest and Weaver stifled them last time around.

It's really a toss up at this point as far as I can see. If it comes down to bullpens again, despite the Cardinals pen imploding last night, I'd rather have theirs than the Mets. As I've said many times, nobody loses important games like Billy Wagner.

Carpenter is sooooo much better at home. Why would he not pitch him tomorow at home?

Not true. Yankee fans do that, but Met fans stay loyal, good or bad.

Glavine will be pitching on short rest and Weaver stifled them last time around.

Uh, no. With the rainout Glavine will have 4 days rest.
Weaver pitched well in game 1, but the Mets still won.
No way he pitches that well again.

I know your itching to talk October baseball and since your team never provides that you have to come in here, can you at least know what your talking about if your going to post here. First off Glavine will be pitching on full rest with the Rain out. And you would rather have the Cardinals bullpen than the Mets. You may be the only person in the Universe with that opinion but ok. That's fine.

Nobody loses more important games than Billy Wagner? two words. Armando Benitez.

You can't really predict that about Weaver...he may, he may not. The guy had an awful year, but he's also been a successful pitcher at points in his career.

And this what happens in the playoffs...guys you wouldn't think would do well step up, and lineups that absolutely rake in runs, tighten up in big games...it happens all the time.

I think it looks much better for the Mets than it did before last night's game, but I think they HAVE to win tomorrow or they lose the series.

And if they happen to pull out tomorrow's game, I'm still not sure they'd win the series even though they're heading back to NY afterwards. I would not feel comfortable at all seeing Maine or Traschel on the mound in clutch games.

The bottom line is they're not out of the woods yet although they dodged a bullet last night.

Nobody loses more important games than Billy Wagner? two words. Armando Benitez.

Ok...good point.

I find it odd that Philly and Atlanta fans are talking here about playoffs baseball since those two franchises have been so solid in the last 15 years or so in the playoffs

Well the Phillies and Braves are complete opposites. One team makes the playoffs every year and does nothing, the other just never makes the playoffs.

Holy shit! Kyle posted in here after a Mets win?.. that's gotta be a first.

As far as "Mets fans coming out of the woodwork like roaches".. He was responding to me, and I've been posting in these Mets threads longer than you've been a member here. And as far as being a Mets fan, I've been a diehard fan probably longer than you have been alive.
Don't be jealous just because no one wants to be a Phillies fan. (win or lose.)

Biggest homers???? That's pretty silly coming from a Philly fan. You're usually smarter than that, Kyle. Don't reduce yourself to that Atlanta fan's stupidity.

--------------------

And to steamingpile, as far as "warnings for member bashing"....you come in a Mets thread spouting Atlanta shit and you expect to be "protected" by the mods???
You really are a MORON.

That makes too much sense for LaRussa to do.
Carpenter is 8-4 at home, with a 1.81 ERA. 7-4 with a 4.70 ERA on the Road.
Weaver is 2-7 7.70 ERA at home, and 6-7 4.38 ERA away.

If this happens I'll be happy again about the Rainout, eventhough the first time it let Carpenter pitch he stunk.
