I've became an O and A fan not long after they arrived at WNEW. I got XM so I could hear them on my pretty long commute.

I've loved the programming, and the fact that I can listen online, on my Direct TV, and in the car-we all know the tech is great, but here's another example about why they are doing some good stuff.

My elderly Grandmother came to visit my family over the Winter holidays. I put on the 40's channel for her, and after she got over her fear that we were bombing Germany (from the news clips), she just got lost in it. She's old and not real well upstairs at times, and spent every minute at our house basking in the music of her youth.

I just got her a home unit, and added her to my sub-and, at 84, and not well upstairs at times, and can't use a VCR, and still uses a rotary phone, and thinks that Email is a Frenchman...she can use this thing on her own.

So, although I did before, I love XM. Thought I'd share, as I'm the Bad-Boy of Grandmother stories.

XM might have a slow quarter here and there but they are by far the better company...easily.

I can see myself now, in my 90s, half senile, listening to the 80s channel and thinking of the Swedish au pair I banged in college! NICE !!!

Long term investment.

Nice job. Forget the last quarter. It's the way it goes right now. This company is gonna be around for a long long time.

I actually bought a Roady2 off Ebay for my grandma and offered her the fucking receiver and sub, MY TREAT and she said NO! So I gave it to my mother, and then my father wanted one too.

I really wish my grandma would have kept it though. She's a very active 82 year old woman, but for those days she spends in the house she could have enjoyed the 40's station, and hopefully found some other stuff.

Oh well, I still signed up 2 extra subs for XM and my parents love the thing. Dad digs the BBC and my mother love the Christian stations.

I got XM just for O&A. I got in before they even went on the air.
I liked the channels and the no commercial music. I'll never go back
to regular radio again. I have a Myfi and I used it to listen to XM
when on vacation while in the Flordia keys. Love the XM.
I've turned on over a dozen people to XM so far.

I had my XM for a few months before I discovered OnA and loved it. Now I feel kind of bad because I really just listen to 202 and neglect all the music channels, which I love.

Damn 202 and their A.F.R.O programming!

Its rare that you find a product that you love so much that you become an unpaid spokesman for that company. XM is that product/company.

Im not even a stockholder or anything, I just own 3 units, but I watch the sub numbers and stock prices because I love the company and want it to smash the lil other company.

I have 5 units on my service now. I got Myfi's for myself, my wife,
both of my sons and a roady for my future daughter-in-law.
We all love XM. I push it to folks whenever I can. Once you get the
service, you'll never go back to regular radio again.

I have to drive a lot for my job and really enjoyed being able to pick up all the sports talk stations, but after listening to the boys go for an hour and a half without a break, I just cant listen to those stations and all the commercials.

I really think that if XM got someone who wasnt an awful to listen to jackass, like Ferrall, to do a sports show, it would do well. Especially if sports betting was a major topic.

I had to listen to regular FM radio today cause I'm borrowing someone's truck...after a ten minute commercial break it comes back w/ some awful pop song. If you ever take XM for granted try FM for an hour.

I'm single and I have 2 subs. Does that make me sick? I have my Pioneer AVIC-D1 in my car and a MyFi XM2go at home, soon to be replaced by my Helix that I pre-ordered the other day. I can't wait! I've had XM for a year now but have only been an O&A listener for about 3 or 4 months. Ever since I started listening to them and RaF I hardly ever change the channel. I got my sister a Sirius for Christmas because she's a Howard fan but she admited to me the other day she hardly listens to him because it's just not the same as when he was on free radio. I have a feeling she's going to be getting my MyFi when I get my Helix.

edit: didn't know the last post went through. When I use firefox it keeps logging me out, switched to explorer and it didn't. Is there a fix for that?

Ironically, I got a survey call from a telemarketer firm last night-I usually hang up on them, but I listened for a sec, and he wanted to talk about my radio listening habits. (Philly Market).

I said, 'I only listen to XM Satelite Radio"

He said, "Thank you very much"

And he hung up. a delightful telemarketer who hangs up on himself.

I love XM because of what is going on right now. Over 1000 pests calling sirius to shut down a show. I think it should be Howard 100 and Pests 101!

nothing beats a grrrrrrrrr on the radio followed by a phone call from Scott in Modesto!

They just detroyed that show, from all accounts.

Maybe the best thing about XM is the warm feeling we all get from each other.

My husband bought XM before O&A came on-air. When we drove from Jersey to Indiana the first time with it, I wanted one. Now that we live in the middle of nothing, I am thankful for it, as there is no radio out here. :)

We just bought #4 and #5 on our way to and from Texas. My tuner was broken so he bought me a new one going south. Then he got jealous of what mine could do, so he bought one for his truck on the way back. And I believe he is waiting for the new one to come out this year to buy yet another one.

I bought my skyfi about a month before O&A went back on air. I'll admit I bought it exclusivley for them but I do enjoy the other programming too.

I really wish XM has a lifetime mebership like sirius has. I'm happy with the service and would pay the monthly fee just for 202, but it would be a nice reward for loyalty to be able to get the $499 lifetime mebership .

I fall asleep to Audiovisions and wake up to Sunny.
I record O&A and listen all day long.

Take breaks for XCountry, tons of Deep Tracks, Lucy, Ethel, and more.
I dont watch TV, ever.

XM is the best thing to ever happen to me............. wow. Thanks Opie and Anthony.

Well the reason I got XM was for O&A and the music. Can't take terrestrial radio anymore. Got the online subscription in April of 2005 after I broke up with this girl. And let me tell you it has totally helped. And now I'm hooked!!
So now I got my MyFI last month(when the price dropped) and am listening to NHL, O&A, 90's, 80's, 70's channels. Plus whatever I can find in between. (That memory function is such a help!)
Now I'm planning to get the new portables with the MP3 players. I am gonna try to give my MyFi to my dad for Father's Day with a year subscription. I know he'll like the comedy, music and MLB.
One last note. My brother got a Sirius radio from his girlfriend for Xmas and now is a big Sirius defender. However after I showed off my MyFi to him he's thinking about going XM. the virus continues.........

I gave my mother one. She's too stuborn to spend on a "fancy satellite" so I just bought it for her and I pay the subscription, and as much as it pains her to say it she loves the fucking thing!!

I got XM as soon as I heard O&A were going to be on and, ever since it's been more sacred to me than my wallet.
I too have put a senior citizen into a state of bliss with the 40's channel. When she passed I insisted we listen to the 40's because "last christmas she devoured this channel like a teenager in love" It brought tears of joy to our eyes remembering her reactions to some of the songs. RIP Mary L.

What bother's me is my grandmother loves the oldies station but is also in love with Tony Danza on regular(shit) tv, but find's Ant's impressions to be "dirty mouthed". As much respect as I have for senior citizens, the lack of understanding towardrs new tech. and forms of entertainment is mind numbing. Gramted it may be the wrong forum to bring a granmother to, the fact she isn't open minded bothers the shit out of me.

Just my two cents.

dude, think about what they had when they were kids and they probably feel threatened and embarassed because they have nothing like it. We grew up with technology and when they were young, UNIVAC was new tech. ;)

I understand and try to teach my parents how to use a computer and they've learned but it took them a while...older people don't want to feel ashamed because they can't work the gadget.

Oh and Ant's danza IS potty mouthed. ;) Drink from my mule isn't something Mr. Danza would say on the show. Granted, to some of his daughters bi-friends...maybe. tee hee.

I think what speaks the loudest of how much people love their XM is the sheer number of us who are acting as unpaid spokespeople. I can't even count anymore how many times I've dropped XM plugs into conversations. Hell, I've dropped plugs in the middle of classes here.

The bottom line is, when you have such a loyal fan base, you're doing a lot of things right.

I just looked it up you can only transfer the service 3 times and it will cost you up to $75.00 Each time. $750.00 and 3 radios later you have to start all over agian...
