Just something to keep in mind when Sirius releases it's numbers tomorrow. I know Bubba had a great time bashing XM today. If Sirius numbers are below analysts expectations that will be worse than what XM went through today because....
Tomorrow, we won't see the 34.4 million new shares issued to Howard Stern show up on the company's income statement -- they weren't issued until Jan. 9, 2006. But factor those in to your expectations for next quarter.

Actually this is pretty good marketing...they will have seen sales go up because of the Howard effect but no effect on expenses. This could be a good quarter for Sirius but next quarter might not be so pretty and if this quarter isn't good next quarter will be a travesty.

Well I haven't heard anything but the little doggie companys stock is already down .24 today. Not a good sign

Rebecca Gomez of Fox News just anounced Sirius lost 311 million in the final quarter of 2005.

Hmm. Well, you know, that probably shouldn't make me smile as much as it does. Not a full smile, but that slight mocking half-smile.

Here is a quick Summary

I really don't see why everyone is bashing XM. The doggy is spending more per new subscriber and suffering wider losses than XM. WIth all the hype the only beat XM by 400,000 subscriptions in the 4th quarter. That really isn't that much.

this type of thing is very common.

the "director" who quit was, more than likely, the cranky old guy of the XM board, and to be perfectly honest, it's probably a GOOD THING that he's gone.

the article in the LA Times (<a href="http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-xm17feb17,0,2904059.story?coll=la-tot-promo">here</a>) doesn't really reference the fact that he's the board's "Joe Shareholder" - a problematic type who is more into making noise than serving the corporation.

this was his last shot and last best chance to get some media, so hopefully he enjoyed being quoted so widely today.

cue his fadeout to obscurity.

But for the year XM had 530,531 more subscribers than doggy..

The Sirius average monthly churn was 1.5% - 124,034 subs dropped in Q4.
I cannot find XM's churn.

Both companies are gonna be hurting for a few years

Which seems to be the case with most new ventures that are HUGE. That's why I get pissed when the "fans" start bitching about XM spending more dough on advertising for the show. Shit.. XM should advertise the stuff that'll get subs.. listeners will migrate to the show regardless.

Both XM and Sirius are in this for the long term. I thnk that the lilttle doggie Co will have a much harder time trying to re-coup the Howard money than XM will have trying to pay O&A and Oprah. Remember HBO in the 80's? Everyone said that they would NEVER pay for TV... well, everyone is saying they will never pay for radio.... let's wait and see in 3 years...
For now, I say go with SVMI, GBIC, ASTM!!!!

If I remember hearing correctly, XM wasn't expecting to be profitable til next year or '08.

no matter when, its pretty evident now who will break even first, its not even close. Remember when everyone was nervous after what mel said about sirius breaking even, whoops the ol' bullshit.

CFBE is different then being profitable. They could break even tommorow and then sunday be back in debt. Its all about having a sustained positive cash flow.

Yea, but all sirius has to do is keep getting subscribers at the same rate they did in thr 4th quarter. At least that's what a Stern fan told me so I assume it's gotta be true.

That Q4 push is over. Stern gave them a bump in Q4, but it will not last into Q2 of 06.

I was going on info from probably at least 6 months ago.
In that case, I'm wrong.

I don't do stocks or any trading...but I would love to start...something small and just gain some perspective into all of it

XM - is it a good idea? Or is it something that I shouldn't start with?

Thanks for any help guys.

What a dumb first post...:icon_eek:
