I have both. Got XM for the boys right before they began & now I have Sirius as well.

What are your thoughts on the 2?

Howards infrequent replays is really annoying me. :icon_evil

Don't worry, eventually he will have to realize people only listen to his channel for him and not those side shows. I bet in less than 2 months Stern will have at least one more replay, if not more.

I have Sirius. I actually like the music channels better than XM's. I dare say if O&A were not on XM, I would probably cancel the service.

Not sure what it is, but Sirius' music channels seem better organized and as a mid 40s rock n roller, they have more to offer me.

Funny thing, I don't listen to Hoo Hoo, but since he's been on, I've turned it over there about 3 times and all 3 times he was in commercials or Howie news.

I have Sirius radio and Direct TV. I actually really like Sirius's music content. I'm not into the whole XM/Sirius war. I think they're both good but I'm not as familiar with XM's programming other than what is offered on Direct TV.

Stern currently has a replay at night. His morning show also has a 3-hour west coast delay.

I own both. Bought Sirius (before last fall's NCAA schedule began) because they have a better college football coverage package than XM does. Bought XM a couple of years ago, because of Nascar. Listen to O&A. Can't stomach Stern.

yeah, I'm liking the Sirius rock music channel arrangement better too. Luvin Hair Nation. XM should diversify their rock channels more. Boneyard plays a lot of stuff I don't know or care for, & I know 80's metal. they are too obscure. Kinda "Deep Track-y"
I tell ya, DirecTV had the best music channel before they got XM, Arena Rock. it was great. I emailed charlie Logan suggesting they program Boneyard more like Arena Rock on DirecTV and he got a little annoyed & defensive in his reply email :icon_lol:

feel it's enough for me to get Sirius. I just tape the shows on the
Speed channel and the races if I can't watch. It really is more of a
visual thing for me. I rarely listen to Nascar on XM even though I'm
a big Nascar fan. Same thing goes for football. I'd rather see a game

I have both, and only bought Sirius so I could listen to my Houston Texans games since I didn't have Direct Tv at the time and I lived in Nashville, TN.

I enjoy their old school hip hop station and their rock channels, and Jam Channel.

Sirius reception blows though. Their satelites move around and I never get uniterrupted coverage like I do with my XM.

I still have my sirius boombox, but i rarely turn it on. I tried Howard but it's boring to me.

I have a myfi that i take to work, a built in sony xm reciever in my car, and have the delphi boombox in my bedroom.

XM is by far the better of the two in my opinion.

they were the first satelllite radio i bought....I was in to sports talk and they sucked....no fox sports, no sporting news and no MLB radio. I listened on AIRTran to XM and when I got back in town I put the Sirius on Ebay and got XM.

I listened to O&A in college in Mass and had no idea they were on XM. I haven't left 202 since finding them.

Sirius is terrilble. Rude and Juse were ok to listen too, but they play too much music...the rest of the shit sucked.

I have both and I like XM a lot more than I like Sirius. I bought XM when our local sports station switched to Disney Radio. I wound up getting a sirius unit and a friend of mine who had sirius got an XM. Each of us pays for the family plan on our setup and gets the best of both worlds.

I prefer XMs music over Sirius and the coverage and sound quality of XM is a lot better in my car.

Oh yeah and the Howard channels are awful. I like the continual repeats of O&A and Ron & Fez they make 202 so much better than 100 and 101. After all when you add 100 and 101 you still fall short of 202. That fucking news show and wrap up show are God AWFUL!!!!

I still really don't get the music thing honestly. I mean I write E-mails to get Liquid Metal back on XM but if it doesn't come back I got my iPod.

I couldn't care less who has better music because I got XM for it's special content: 202. Ron and Fez got me to buy XM and O&A were icing on the cake.

If you think Sirius has better Rock stuff just forget the extra sub and equipment, get an iPod and put all your music you like on it. You'll never wait for a music station to play what you want to hear again.

I love NASCAR and even though I am disappointed that NASCAR is going to Sirius, I will not have both for just that. Just like football, NASCAR needs to be watched on TV. All it is is just a feed of the MRN network coverage which can be caught on free radio anyways. I only found it useful if I had to go out on a Sunday, I could keep up with the race until I reached a destination with a TV.

I have heard the music on Sirius through their sat tv deal. I still prefer the programming on XM. Just put Liquid Metal back on the satellites.

Howard 100 News to answer your question is a waste of bandwidth. The pretty much report on the stories that Howard covered on his show. If he had a guest they will interview the guest and ask them what they thought of the Sirius show vs the FM show. Pretty lame ass stuff. It is basically any news (I use that word loosely) that is Howard related they will talk about, unless it is bad news then they skip it.

That sounds like it's aa FM issue and not a problem with your XM unit. The upper frequencies in the FM band are reserved for "community" use. You might have a low power station in the area broadcasting a free FM signal causing you to switch the FM frequency.

I have the Sirius music channels on my Dish Network but i'm not very impressed. I do like the XM selection better but nothing compares to my iPod for me.

The NASCAR channel is more than just the races, they do broadcast all of the Truck, Busch, and Cup races, as well as a 4 hour a day m-f call in show, and there was one in the morning too but I haven't listened since I caught the virus.

I do enjoy the NASCAR channel from time to time as I am a huge racing fan. I would hold of on getting Sirius once the official NASCAR name is gone from XM. I think that E-LO would be smart enough to see the mass appeal of the NASCAR channel and retain a similar style show in the same time slot during the week. The rest of the day could be filled out with news and shows about all other forms of motorsports; F1, IRL, Cart, USAC, NHRA, Supercross, SCCA, etc. Kind of like a less NASCAR-centric radio version of the Speed channel.

When I get to sections of the shows I've already heard I switch to the music. I listen to Fungus 53, Unsigned and XMU quite a bit but when my music tastes change (often), I turn on the Sirius and listen to Hard Attack JamOn or Underground Garage. just a question. why would you want nascar on radio? they only race once/week, right? why not just watch it on tv?

MRN/PRN usually have coverage of qualifying, and the other racing series, that some markets do not carry when they broadcast the races. Where I live is a good example of that. They only carry the Cup races, but not the Busch or Truck series.

As for watching the races on tv, most folks do. However, the tv package that Nascar sold the networks (and the new one is going to be a lot worse) have resulted in a landslide of commercials. I watch the race on tv, mute it during commercials, and listen to the radio coverage.

Wouldn't do me any good to buy Sirius, not that I want it. I can listen to the radio at work. The Xm comes in at my office building, Sirius DOES NOT. Because of that, you are starting to see the Xm antennas pop up at everyone's cubicles. Seems like nobody misses Howard except one little drone who complains she lost her signal at home 5x in one day. I hope she gets her moneys worth :)

:icon_evil I bought Sirius in 2003. Loved it at first. Sound quality was excellent, programming was great. Then the sound quality decreased similar to a 96 or 128 mp3. Repetition got to be too much to deal with. And their quick to delete channels and merge popular channels. They add channels too but if your taking populars ones away, whats the point?

If O&A weren't on XM I'd probably cancel too. The only other thing I listen to my XM for besides the bbboys are MLB games, but barely once a week. Sirius has better sports, if you're living away from your hometown you can follow your football, hockey and basketball team as well as a lot of college games. Sirius music is much better too... I don't mind the talking, its only a few seconds at a time. Hard attack, octane, faction, backspin, even shade 45. I just wish you could pick your content from the 2 services....we'd probably all pay less cause we wouldn't pick hoo-hoo.

yeah, I'm liking the Sirius rock music channel arrangement better too.
That's because hair metal is God awful. There is plenty or a variety of rock on xm if you're not still cruisin the 86 Fiero.

At least Siruis has better music selection and more XL channels. The only bad thing I have to say about XM is their lack of XL music. Thats the whole reason I signed up for XM. Who wants to hear most or some of the words cut out or overwritten with stupid scratching effects? When I saw there were 3 XL rock stations and only 1 XL rap station I wanted to quit XM and go to Sirius.
Thank god I was too lazy to do it at the time because I checked out O n A once I saw they weren't on the premium any more and they are the only reason I kept my XM and it never strays from 202 or Ethel (the only music channel with original content that isnt played out; thanks for pluggin Ethel Opie). XM is nice but damn, why does everything have to be edited? Especially hip-hop/rap. Not like thats all I like to listen to but I do enjoy some of it. Even rock stations I've heard one version edited and then on another channel its the uncut/unedited version of that same song, what gives?
My buddy has Sirius and hardly any of their music channels are edited for language. Maybe thats why they have FCC issues and shit like that. But with XMs channel blocking, make with more XL content.

She like Howard, cause I got her onto him when he was good back in the day.
She listens to O&A when in my car and I catch her giggling ever now and then...I may still convert her...

Thats how my girl is. She likes when they are tame and joking on current events or shit in the news, but once they get to being their usual selves with the pranks and being "mean" it turns her off. Some people don't get that its just entertainment and its not like you have to believe every view they have. She can't get passed that.

Could the 'I have an iPod, so I dont need music channels' people answer me a question?

Have you honestly heard and know all the good music ever recorded, and know for a fact that you will never like anything new again?

Its wierd...I think iPods have created a new kind of arrogance or musical snobbery...'I know all the music Im ever gonna like!"
:icon_lol:

No, for me at least, I surf around and if I don't hear anything that I don't particularly care for its off to the iPod where I can always find something I like. Keep in mind that when I'm not at my day job (gotta have one in KS if you're in the music business) I'm at a studio or theater doing sound work. I certainly love to control what song I'm going to listen to rather than just sit and hear what someone else is playing.

I do listen and have bought CDs from things I've heard on XM. And it's always a thrill to hear music that I've recorded on XM Bluesville :D

I have both...i work in advertising and got sirius from MSG network as a corporate christmas present with a year long subscription...which was 2 years ago (pre O&A and Stern). They were coming out with new units and getting rid of the older really big units...

I haven't paid a dime to sirius and wonder if they include me in their list...

I do listen to stern between 6AM - 7AM now, only to see if he talks about O&A lately. I do like the music stations more than XM...I listen to the bruce springsteen station....I like Alt Nation (like Krock used to be) and Hair Nation (which I really want Boneyard to be)...Jim Breuer is good but I rarely listen because I can't listen at work...the decades channels are about the same...

Honestly I think the music on XM for the most part kinda sucks...I do like 20 on 20, Mix, Ethel, Boneyard, MLB home plate (especially during the season), and O&A / R+F....I do wish some of XM's music stations were more like SIrius...

I bought a Sirius unit for the wife back in August. I like their music selection a little better than XMs but Sirius' quality is SHIT in comparision. Their online streaming is horrible too. They stream at low bandwidth settings so all the rock stations sound like an AM station.

I work out early in the morning so when I get home @ around 6am I listen to a little Stern while I cook my breakfast and then catch O&A in my car on the way in to work. His show is still mediocre, still cliche, very little celebs, and it's still all about Howie. You can tell he's lost his passion. He says "Hey Now" every 30 seconds (THAT OLD GAG). Artie makes me laugh and Florentine, Levy when they're on. I like Richard and Sal, but without Jackie - Howard is just a fucking HACK.

There's a bunch of hard-core Stern fans in my office here too. I shared the mousetrap/Ballbag show with them and they're all seriously considering getting XM now.

She has it in her car, and whenever the reception is up (which is only about half the time, whenever I'm in there), and Howie's on, I wanna put my head through the window -- it's completely awful. I was literally screaming at the radio during a segment on News when he called in and actually took credit for Dee Snider's fame -- she got scared.

At the same time, I catch her laughing at some of the stuff on O&A (when she gets it, of course). During one of the replays where they played the Danza stuff, we stayed parked in a parking lot for 10 minutes at her behest because she didn't want to leave the car until she got to hear the payoff. She has admitted that O&A put on a better show, but she feels this stupid loyalty to Stern that I can't explain. I'm sure I'll be able to convert her, though.

I never had the "pleasure" of getting sucked in to Hoo Hoo and his bullshit and the O n A show was the first "shock" radio I've heard. Good thing I never cancelled my XM sub before I heard O&A. I now see I listen to the best in the biz after hearing Howard and others. The only other show that interested me was Phil Hendrie for his characters he makes up and then idiots call in to call out a fake person that Hendrie made up. Pretty funny at times.

I got XM and my brother's got Sirius(Brother vs. Brother? No!). Got to hear both and I'll go with XM. Stern ain't the same anymore plus the NFL is more of a visual thing. XM has got O&A, MLB, pretty good music channels(Fan of the Decades!)and others I'm still discovering. Plus XM has the portable units which I use. I can't wait for the new ones with MP3s. I'll never use my CD player again!
I'll be honest though, I'm a big supporter of satellite radio in general. Can't stand terrestrial radio anymore. Same crap over and over again. Maybe satellite radio will give terrestrial something to think about.
They say "Why pay for radio?". I remember a time when people said "Why pay for TV?". Wasn't MTV 0on TV you had to pay for?

MRN/PRN usually have coverage of qualifying, and the other racing series, that some markets do not carry when they broadcast the races. Where I live is a good example of that. They only carry the Cup races, but not the Busch or Truck series.

As for watching the races on tv, most folks do. However, the tv package that Nascar sold the networks (and the new one is going to be a lot worse) have resulted in a landslide of commercials. I watch the race on tv, mute it during commercials, and listen to the radio coverage.

I'm in the same boat, I like to listen to the race during commercials, and a lot of the time they don't show the Busch races up here, so the only way I can listen is on 144.

My wife got me a MyFi for my birthday last October and so I gave her my roady2 to put in her car. Can't believe how quick she got hooked on O&A. Every night now she gets home and wants to talk about the show that day. For the last 2 days the antenna hasn't been working for the roady so we're buying another MyFi today.

I don't really understand how people can say that one service has better music than the other. Musical tastes are so personal, so I don't know how someone could base which service they want to subscribe to on other people's advice.

For what it's worth, I took an hour drive out to the end of Long Island this past weekend, and my Tune Select literally beeped about 8 times in an hour playing Blue October, Ben Folds Five, Buckcherry, and of course more popular bands like Alice in Chains and Audioslave.

People complain XM's playlist is too broad, but that is one of the selling points of satillite radio. Your musical tastes should expand because of the depth of the playlist. If you want to listen to the same hits over and over again, the "fm" button is still right there on the dashboard.

Sirius definetly has reception issues. I installed a Siruis unit in a friends car, and we couldn't even test that it worked because we were parked in a garage, the same garage where I've gotten spotless service under for 2 years.

That's my 2 cents . . . .

:werd: I listened to Ethel for over 4 hours without one song repeating. Top Tracks is a ridiculously good station with a very large playlist (Big Tracks is just going to improve on that). With the new introduction of Chill, the techno selection is just going to get better. The country stations (which I listen to about 60% of the time) have a better selection than Sirius (my dad has it so I've listened to it quite a bit). The only thing I don't really listen to is R&B and Rap but I've heard XM's playlists are deeper in both of those categories.

Seems like if XM can get liquid metal back they will have every area covered :dunno: but like you said, its all subjective when it comes to content. Thats why when I'm arguing with someone I don't use content as an argument.

edit: fuck, you guys need some more smilies haha

Easily. Until XM brings back Liquid Metal.......

And a lot of people here know that.

Virtually I'm greedy. I have every cable channel imaginable. When I buy music I buy every album a band or singer made, I like trucks, but I also like motorcycles, so I have each, In my office here I have three TV screens because I don't want to not be able to watch TV while I play video games, plus I can put the computer up and fuck around on it too.

I want it all, so naturally when Satellite came out I wanted both services. You only live once.
