If you watch the video you would see the firetrucks and other large rescue video's around the aircraft so I would say it fell short of the runway and stopped just short of it.
so are they trapped on an island off MD...?
What?
The plane crashed in an open, grassy area about a half-mile short of the runway.

Oh I just noticed I somehow skipped over that the first time I read it. Any ways I am really interested to see what happened here. These aircraft are designed to land with engine(s) out. When I was in the AF we had several of them a day and you could not tell at all when it came to pilot operation. I mean they would just land as smooth as if they had all engines up. Our pilots are very well trained to respond to these scenarios and are expected to be proficient with them. They were almost a "routine incidents" that were handled by profesionals to every extent. I think this one may be found to be pilot error by standards set forth.

The C-5 is humongous. I guess it's not much bigger than a 747 really. It is just completely gutted and made to haul equipment. It's amazing to see.

My uncle is in the Army Reserve, and at the time was on his way home from Panama. My grandma freaked out when she heard about it (she freaks out about everything). Thankfully, he wasn't on that plane.
